View Full Version : Baldric + Belt

Alright, I'm kind of freaking out since I need this by August 22nd (I know, it's not exactly tomorrow, but I'm really slow). :B

I need to make or buy a 1.5-3" baldric and belt of similar dimension.

The baldric needs to be about 45" (+tongue if included) of material. The belt, about 28" + tongue.

I don't necessarily need real leather - but I wouldn't mind working with it and I'm not really sure what else would work.

I'm going to check out belts at the thrift store and see if I can use / modify anything - but I'm not that hopeful.

I guess what I'm asking is, what can I use to make these, and where can I get it ?

They don't need to support anything heavy - just a bag with a fork in it and a ridiculous goblet.

Or if anyone wants to make them for $40 or less, I'll just pay you because I have a lot of other stuff to get done, too. ;__;

If you had to make your baldric, alot of fabric stores sell leather-like cloth.
The Hancock fabric I have near me carries a leather-like material that I used to make a leather bound journal for a class project. It looks exactly like leather on the front, and is a fuzzy textured white color on the backside. I think it came in black and brown, possibly more but I only needed black, so I didn't pay attention to any other colors. Lol. It was in pretty tall/long rolls leaning against the far back wall of my store near where they have stuff for upholstery and stuff.

If you don't have a Hancock fabrics near you, just try your nearby fabric stores. They're bound to have some sort of imitation leather cloth you can use, probly in the upholstery section.

If worse comes to worse, you can always buy the squares of leather they have in the craft section of Jo-Ann fabrics/Hobby Lobby and just sew them together. XD

I'd offer to make them for you, but I have enough trouble getting my own stuff done. XD;;

Do you have a Tandy Leather outlet, a craft store that sells Tandy products, or can purchase from tandyleatherfactory.com online? They make some really nice belt blanks in all sizes, I think their longest blank is 72". Those are apt to be about $20, though, so be aware of costs adding up if you decide you want to custom-dye a veg-tanned blank. But I can easily expect them to have 3" wide blanks, and buckles of that size, since I've bought buckles in that size before.
