Okay, I realize that there is a wing tutorial, before anyone points that out. But, I read through it all, and I didn't seem to find what I was looking for. I suppose I could try to modify some of the designs there, but they are all soooo different from what I need that I was worried about how my wings would come out. I'm a perfectionist, and the costume this is for is the one I look the best in too, so I don't want to screw anything up...

For the past 2 years, I've cosplayed as Konan from Naruto- since before they even showed her face actually- and I've been adding to it as time goes on to try to make it perfect. I finally have enough of money and skill to make the shirt she wears in Kishimoto's artbook, as well as her wings...

But for one thing, I do NOT want to cut up my Akatsuki cloak, not even to just make flaps in the back. I don't see any other way to attach wings except to just have the harness pieces match my cloak and go over the shoulders...and hopefully not be noticed.... but I was hoping somebody else out there might have other ideas. Also, how thin could the harness pieces be, and still hold the wings up? (I was expecting to have them come over the shoulders like straps to a backpack...but, at the same time...will the wings be too heavy, just flop backwards, and hit the floor behind me if I only have a backpack-like strap over each shoulder?)

Here's a picture of the wings: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/AuroraMaryte/_KonanP-1.jpg

They are only paper, over some kind of frame, but my friend suggested copper tubing from Home Depot as the frame, since she used it for her own wings. I'm just afraid of the copper tubing being heavy enough to drag the wings down my back if I only have 'backpack straps', but at the same time, how would I successfully hide anything else?... I mean, I can't make a strap encircling my waist blend in- I'd HAVE to cut the cloak for that, and I really don't want to make cutting an option.

Also, I obviously don't mean to make them THAT big; they wouldn't let me into the convention center. But I do want them pretty large in proportion to my body, and that exact shape. If I use copper tubing, thin pieces of it, will it bend to conform to that shape, or will I have to use multiple pieces of tubing for each wing?.... In which case, how would I keep the separate pieces of copper together, to form the wing?... Lacing them wouldn't work, because of the angle that the lower pieces would have to be at- they'd fall right out and to the floor. I'm hoping one piece of tubing will work for each wing, but if it won't, what can I do?...

Someone who has made wings before, please help!!

Hon, the copper tubing is VERY lightweight. I had that for my Lucifer wings and they only weigh about 3 pounds. As for straps, if you followed my method (the backpack strap kind of method), then the wings will say. I didn't have an issue with my wings sliding around my back.

Now, if you want to hide your harness, you would HAVE to cut your cloak. There's no way around it, unless you would be fine with your harness showing. The holes I cut into my Lucifer jacket were really small, no one could see them, so it's not like ripping apart your entire cloak.
