When I lived in Japan I used to listen to a band called "Princess Proncess" They broke up in '96 but they are still near and dear to my heart. I was just wondering if anyone's heard of them. It would make me feel better not being the only non-Japanese peron who has heard of them

It sounds familiar... what's their sound like?

What on earth was I watching... probably Utaban, I don't think it was Music Station. Anyway, they had a professor on who did a large-scale study of Japanese music and compared the BPM of the #1 hit of the year with the strength of the Japanese economy.
The first single they used in the study was a Princess Princess from the late 80's... it was ridiculously fast, and quite cute. By far, it was the highest BPM of the group. Since then, the tempo of the hits has been steadily decreasing, in conjunction with the economy. ;^_^ It was an odd segment.
The only "blip" in their system was Glay's "Yuuwaku" in '99... it was a HUGE spike from the surrounding years, as it's a great fast rock song, but there was no spike in the economy to match it. So they seemed to just ignore it. >_< Makes me rather suspect as to their research techniques...
Anyway, Princess Princess still comes up every now and then, so don't feel bad. ;) A lot of the new idols include them on their list of all-time favorites... very classic. ^_^
