Hello I am asking how I should make Rin's headphones from Vocaloid. This isn't her original headphones in the original art pictures. This is from the video Magnet (this is the angelic version, not the butterfly version). I do not know how to make the wings either. I need help please! Thank you very much!

Here is a reference picture from another cosplayer (sorry i don't have many) (THE FIRST PICTURE DOESN'T BELONG TO ME. BELONGS TO ORIGINAL OWNER FROM:http://www.chiken-love.com) (ALL PHOTOS BELONG TO OWNERS/ARTIST):

Copy and paste the link into Google, and click "Translate this Page" when your results come up. It will give you a rough translation.

1. Feather headphone
Feather + plastic + EVA+ metal wire + aluminum wire + acrylic paint + [dekosupure] and the like was used.
The original and the maximum trying probably to produce entirely,
In the feather part the feather individual was pasted richly with respect to the shape which inserted the wire.
There being a wire, the adjustment of pattern of the feather is possible.^^

Using the white acrylic paint, after the coating color, using [dekosupure] where the gold dust enters entirely, it shines slightly.

Black pattern using the cloth which shines, putting out pattern, individual pasted cubic.
Inside the latch which is put on the ear having been attached, after putting on the ear, it is the shape which with the pin locks in the wig and simultaneous.^^

What is:

EVA?

DEKOSUPURE?

Like I said, Google gives a ROUGH translation. Since it, and some other words are in caps (and some also have Kanji!) It might have not been something Google knew how to translate. >: Sucks. It sounds important!
Online dictionary says nothing, either.

Hmm. That sucks. >:

How should i make the details, headphones and the wings (this is now my 3rd time of making headphones) (do you think i should make the wings yellow or pink?)

i think you should use...im not quite sure what to call it...but its basically a sheet of foam but covered with a plastic layer. its not styrofoam. its a dense foam. you can find it at art stores like Michaels.

basically you would have 4 layers. bottom layer would be the base of the headphone.
2nd layer would be the layer that the wires run into. 3rd layer would be the thin layer with its edges painted gold, the final layer with the black design wouldn't even have to be that foam stuff, it could be bristleboard.

for the wings, i would just buy some white feathers and glue them together at an angle to make them look like wings.

for the intricate design i would make a template using some kind if sticker paper (i dont know the proper term for it) so its sticky on one side. stick it onto the the circular bristleboard cutout and spraypaint the design, let dry, then peel the template off. then stick some silver jewels onto the appropriate places or simply use dots of silver paint.

for that white and red wire part....i would use a white clothing hanger, heat it up and mold it. it'll be sturdy. the take some thick red wire and wind it around it.

for the wire with the microphone attached to it...i would use the foam stuff again to cut out a tiny cylinder that will attach the microphone wire to the main headphone. then use white clothing hangers again for the wire...that will keep its shape and not bend everywhere. cut out another cylinder of that foam stuff to connect to the wire and paint a gold patch onto it.

Ta-dah!

if you have any questions, i'd be happy to answer them. Or if you're finding it hard to understand this, i could post a pic showing what parts im talking about. :)

I believe what the poster above means, is foam-board, I think that would work good for the headphones. Though I do want to say, don't give up! If you really want to do the wings headphones, you should, they don't seem to be too hard to make, just maybe a little time consuming but other than that- I think you'll do fine.

if your going to use the foam board when you get down to the coloring part, you may want to coat it with some gesso then sand it down so you have a nice surface to paint on.

I've included a pic to show what parts of the headphones i mean :)

1. i think you should use...im not quite sure what to call it...but its basically a sheet of foam but covered with a plastic layer. its not styrofoam. its a dense foam. you can find it at art stores like Michaels.
Thanks Foxberry, it is called Foamboard.

2. basically you would have 4 layers. bottom layer would be the base of the headphone.
2nd layer would be the layer that the wires run into. 3rd layer would be the thin layer with its edges painted gold, the final layer with the black design wouldn't even have to be that foam stuff, it could be bristleboard.
bottom layer is pink. 3rd layer is green. 2nd layer is blue. final layer is yellow.

3. for the wings, i would just buy some white feathers and glue them together at an angle to make them look like wings.
i think you know what the wings are... :P

4. for the intricate design i would make a template using some kind if sticker paper (i dont know the proper term for it) so its sticky on one side. stick it onto the the circular bristleboard cutout and spraypaint the design, let dry, then peel the template off. then stick some silver jewels onto the appropriate places or simply use dots of silver paint.
the design is the sky blue colour.

4. for that white and red wire part....i would use a white clothing hanger, heat it up and mold it. it'll be sturdy. the take some thick red wire and wind it around it.
wires are outlined in red colour.

5. for the wire with the microphone attached to it...i would use the foam stuff again to cut out a tiny cylinder that will attach the microphone wire to the main headphone.
this cylinder is dark green.

6. then use white clothing hangers again for the wire...that will keep its shape and not bend everywhere.
this wire is dark purple.

7. cut out another cylinder of that foam stuff to connect to the wire and paint a gold patch onto it.
this cylinder is a deep red colour.

If you're still unsure about this, i'd be happy to make another picture :)

heres a tutorial on how to make simple feathered wings.
You could always simplify this method even more or alter it to make it smaller.
Hope this helps!
