View Full Version : What kind of paint is it?

Not much of a cosplay question, but I am confused about what a renter from my neighbor is doing. Starting last night and continuing today, there has been a horrid stink coming from a shed some guy rents from my neighbor. I donít know if my neighbor asked the guy specifically or not, but he is apparently painting something. The thing that confuses me is the smell. It smells like a cheep hair salon, acetone I believe is what my dad called it. I donít have a wide knowledge of paint for various projects out there and I only know the smell of your average art and house paint. Does anyone know what the guy might be painting with, and is the paint safe? I have more of a sensitive nose than the rest of my family and it was giving me a headache last knight, I just donít know if this is one of those respirator paints.

Well it probably is what your dad said. Acetone is a paint remover so if they're stripping something before painting it again...that'd be what you're smelling. I certainly hope the tenant has proper ventilation...

Ah, that makes sense, I had forgotten about the possibility of paint remover. It was just so overpowering last night that I could smell it before pulling into my driveway and it worried me on what it could be.
The guy apparently had a fan going for ventilation, but I think it might have been just a simple room fan. I hope too that the fan was enough, that wouldn't be too good for him.

Probably something with a fibreglass body ;) Some car kits are FG I think and boats are a most definite probability.
He might well be working with FG actually as epoxy resin cleans up in acetone. You may hear some sanding going on later. Oh and of course he may be bogging a car first before painting.
