I was just browsing all the threads in the section of the board and came to realize that there is now topic for one of my favorite mangas... so here it is. I'm only up to vol. 10 but I just love this manga... it's so funny and the situations that Onizuka gets himself into... well... if you read it then you know what i'm talking about and if you don't then you should because it is a guaranteed winner!

Yeah, I am killing myself because I am buying the next one everytime I get enough money, so I have nothing left for anything else.. (I am only up to volume 5 though, which shows you how little money I have :p)... it gets expensive

I agree.. Manga is expensive.. i realized how much money I'm going to spend on this Manga alone by the time It's complete and it'll be... 25 books at $10.... ad the 7... divide by 2.5.... That'll be $250 total on just GTO alone... and all the other series... Damn anime and Manga are and expensive lifestyle!! hehe.

Ya the GTO drama really fired up the series in Japan, (it still holds the hights rating in Japan!) Even Tohru Fujisawa was still talking about the Drama at his promotional reception last year in comic con and Borders.
But I don't think the Drama has the energy and humor as the anime/manga does

The Live Action can be downloaded here:

[Er... whenever the Japan-TV server comes back up. Well, if you want a copy, I guess you can PM me about it.]

The Live version of GTO was the most watched when it ended.
The primary difference between the Live Action and the Anime/Manga is that the Live Action is what it is: Drama. Pure and simple drama. The Live Action will definately make you cry, while the Anime/Manga will make you laugh. I swear, I was crying when I saw the Live Action version of the Tomoko arc. There are also other differences, but both the Anime/Manga and the Live Action still captures the spirit of GTO... one in a comedic, cool way; the other in a dramatic, sad, cool way... The Live Action version of GTO makes him the perfect drama star: caring, yet 'typical bad' boy in a cool good-guy fashion.

I like the series, and as for a friend of mine says " His facial expressions are just so funny". Tomoko Nomura is my fav <3......... Kinda makes you wonder if teachers like him really exist.

GTO is the best! I really like the way that the story is told. It's not about how Onizuka can prevent disasters or how he can make the situation better. It's about him being an idiot, making the situation worst and coming out on top. Just gotta love the guy. Although, if I was his friend in real life, I would be really annoyed by his antics and stupidity. Then he would always borrow money and eat food.

How is the manga compared to the series? I have volumes 4 and 5 of the manga. I've seen scattered episodes so it's kinda hard to compare things. Although there are some differences i've noticed:

(TV)When Miyabi dumps Tomoko ( poor girl ;_; ) she pushes her in a pool and they make fun of her
(Manga) Miyabi slaps her

(TV) When Onizuka races the P.E. instructor they show him underwater
(Manga) he's just sitting there at the edge of the pool

*ahem* Jehuty: Onizuka doesn't race the PE instructor in the TV Drama. At all.

What are you sure? well the swim challenge is in there. The 100 meter dash isn't if that's what you're talking about but then again it's been a while since i've seen the episodes so I can't remember clearly.

In the Manga Onizuka sports a "greaser" look hair style in the beginning then he cuts and dyes it blonde, while in the show he starts out with the blonde short do. He never had the "greaser" hair style.

In the Live Action, the PE teacher races a particular male student "K". I'm not giving out the name so there's not much of a spoiler.

I'm only at the beginning of Volume 8 on the anime and haven't read the manga yet. Supposedly, it's 25 volumes long. About 10 bucks a manga... not including tax... still over 250 dollars. The DVDs... I don't even want to think about. :waaaah:

Okay, i've noticed a lot of you have concerns on the cost of Manga.
This is not a viable option for a lot of you guys. Though, to some of you it is.
Manga, is very easy to read in Japanese.(Usually). For example, after one year of intensive
Japanese I was able to read a good deal of manga at a rather stilted speed. Eiji Psychometer was the first one I jumped on for some reason. (Bad choice, something like azumanga daioh with it's osaka ben and such would have been easier).
Anyways, as some of you certainly know. Manga in Japan, freakin cheap. 105 en per book at most used places. Bookoff is a beautiful store.

You guys that are having problems with GTO. I bought the whole series for around 28 dollars. 105 en per book. I made a mistake and bought a few Kodansha reprints that overlapped with normal books. So, i had to re-buy a few to get 100% of the chapters.

Also, if you like GTO, read Onibaku. I don't know if it's in English. Though, you can buy the special edition Kodansha reprints at Book off now for 105 each. Which is awesome.

Same thing goes for games. Learn to read. If you have no interest in speaking just study in AMerica that's sufficient to become a good reader. Then, buy games at the various game stores. Pick up Valkyrie profile for 5 dollars. Grab the shining force 3 scenarios 2 and 3. (Fun)
Whatever, don't listen to people. You can learn to read well in a couple years if it's what you want to do. I was reading pretty well after my first year (A full year of intense study and then just living around, I mean I was going to Kyoto international daigaku after that year as a foreign enrolled student with 100% of my classes IN Japanese. You can do amazing things in a year if you are willing to have your brain destroyed.)

Anyways,

Yeah. Book-off. Learn to read. Furigana is in most books. Gantz doesn't have it. Though, Gantz is just soooo easy to read. I read 10 books while my sister in law was playing Pachinko. She has Pachinko sickness... =P Though, she's awesome at it. I guess that's what you get playing Pachinko 8 hours a day since you were 18(Before that actually but you know... laws and stuff....)

DOne babaling. Just joined to give the Bookoff recommendation.
