View Full Version : Acen Musical Gathering '04

5/11/04
Let's meet Thursday and Friday around 8:00 at the floor above the lobby, near the pool area, around those chairs/tables. I'll be carrying a guitar with me so you can tell who I am. The latest I'm going to wait is 8:30.

Also, I haven't gotten any PM responses to my previous post. Also, I haven't received any word from Alisa. Both of these aren't good.

Depending on the turnout on Thursday and Friday will depend on what we do on Saturday. Right now I'm thinking that not much is going to happen, based on lack of material to work with. However, there's a lot of potential talent to work with.

We'll see what happens.

If anything, we'll just hang around the piano and sing/play the night away.

5/5/04

Obviously, no music for the group I have been proposing to arrange has shown up. As the con date draws ever nearer, no matter what happens, let's meet up on Thursday evening around 8:00, for those that are there. On Friday, let's also try to meet at 8:00 pm. I will have my cell phone on me, which I will PM to those still interested.

4/26/04

Sunday has come and gone, and I know that Alisa has been very busy lately, but I received very little response from my last post concerning people still interested in doing this - I only received two responses. PLEASE, everybody, while I realize that the date I had in my last post only allowed a week's notice, I would like as immediate of a response as possible from you saying if you are still in or not.

The registration schedule concerning the masquerade seems to be more complicated and time-consuming this year. Not only does this produce a huge conflict between priorities but it also reduces freetime to commit.

I'm waiting to touch base with Alisa to see how things are coming along. Music will be distributed as soon as possible. If, in the event that things just don't come together and don't work out, then it's possible to abandon some songs.

And if things don't come together, that's fine. We can still get together to play, play, play, and sing, sing, sing! If we can't have fun with this, why bother?

4/18/04

TO EVERYBODY THAT IS STILL INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN THIS! PM ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BEFORE 4/23/04. THIS IS TO GIVE ME A BETTER IDEA OF WHO'S STILL COMMITTED.

3/17/04

I've recently talked with Alisa, and she will be graciously making the voice and instrumental arrangements for the Sailor Moon Theme, Eyes on Me, Voices, Call me Call me, and The Best is Yet to Come. They should be ready by the beginning of April to be distributed to those still interested, and everybody can prepare for the con.

*****POST MADE 2/24/04, PUT HERE FOR CONVENIENCE*****

wow, thanks everybody for expressing such a strong interest.

As I mentioned in my previous post, it would be virtually to get together before the convention. Therefore, it would be good to know when everybody will be arriving at Acen. I will be there Thursday late afternoon/evening. That way, we could probably find some part in the hotel or at least near it where we can practice a bit. I still need to contact the Acen staff concerning performing on Saturday.

I've picked some songs that seem like they'd be the best candidates to perform. Alisa will be graciously making some vocal/instrumental arrangements, which I hope will be distributed at least a month before the convention.

Here are some very good candidates:

Sailor Moon main theme (Japanese)
Everybody's familiar with the series, and many have expressed interest in singing songs from Sailor Moon.

Eyes on me (FF VIII) and/or Melodies of Life (FF IX)
Also pretty well known songs, and the English versions aren't hard, plus fun to sing.

Voices (Macross Plus, Japanese version)
It's a classic. Enough said. Somebody needs to perform it, and it might as well be us.

Call Me, Call Me (Cowboy Bebop, English)
I wanted to include a Cowboy Bebop song, and others have expressed interest in singing music from Bebop. This is pretty singer-friendly, though the instrument parts might take a bit of time to figure out.

The Best is Yet to Come (Metal Gear Solid, Gaelic)
This is simply a beautiful song which can take full advantage of a choir with a full range.

Please let me know if some conflict arises. The arrangements that Alisa's putting together depend on those available that can sing in the respective vocal ranges and instrumental talents that she's composing for.

If there are any songs you, and perhaps with a group of friends, would really like to perform, then just come. This isn't just about restricting the group to singing only these songs. It should be an opportunity for us to get together and share each others' talents, while entertaining the rest of the crowd!!

*****END POST*****

*****BEGIN ORIGINAL POST*****

This is a bit early, but I don't think it would hurt to throw the idea out there for now.

Kurenai and I were thinking of getting a chorale ensemble together for Acen '04. And while we're at it, it would be cool to just have a big musical group.

But for now, the chorale ensemble! For those that would be interested, say so and post 1. Any anime/videogame songs that you can sing 2. your voice range (if you know it). Also mention if you're good at spontaneous harmony. If we get enough people together for this, I think it could be absolutely spectular. Also, if you know any instrumental accompaniments, then say so.

There's still a decent amount of time between now and Acen, so that can be used to prepare!

Well, I have to say this. I can play trombone as long I know the notes in the song. For the songs I know, I know some cowboy bebop when they need a trombone player in it. Or any anime song that use a trombone in the songs. For my vocal range, let just say I'm somewhere in the Eminem range to Rock range (in other words, I can't sing for $hit)...

Yumeko

If my memory serves me my voice range is medium alto. I don't know how to play any instruments and I know the following songs:

~Forever: Unknown image song from DBZ(currently the only japanese song i know)
Boat song: Lunar silver star story
Eyes on me:FF6
Melodies of life:FF9
Simple and clean: Kingdom Hearts
My only love: NA Sailor Moon
Oh starry night:" "
Rainy Day Man: " "
Alcmey of Love(english version): Tenchi Muyo in love.
Dimensions of Love(English version):Tenchi muyo
Rain, Blue, Call me Call me: Cowboy bebop
(if you still)believe in love: Legend of Dragoon

Currently in the process of learning:
My will, Ai no Uta, Every Heart, change the world, No more words, Dearest, and Shinjitsu no shi : all from inu yasha

wow that's alot

Um, I personally can't sing, but I fully support this! I'll bring you all drinks? >^_^<
Maybe we can have ACen set aside space specifically for you guys? It'd be great if they let you use the second floor balcony/lounge area (where the restaurant/bar, pool and con suite is)

Someone's gotta do some recruiting at Reactor or Kazecon.

If we actually get a committed group together then that would be great, Yui! Once more people become interested and we know what everybody can sing, it will be easier to get a picture of what songs can be done by the whole group (or perhaps by smaller groups).

Something that I think would be great also happens to be something I have no idea how to organize: performing layers of harmony. It would be difficult since I doubt many of us will have a chance to practice this together, and I for one doubt my abilities when it comes to singing spontaneous harmony. For now, I'm going to let this issue be since Acen is far away and the thread won't get too much response until that date comes closer. But if anybody has any idea on particular songs that would be good for this (I would love to do the acapella Crystal Prelude) or how we can go about, well, organizing such a performance, then contribute away.

I don't know if I'll be able to go to Kazecon or Anime Reactor . . . I'll find out soon enough, depending on my situation regarding academics/time/money. Regardless of whether I can go or not, I'm sure there are members of the community here that could recruit other fellow Acen-goers to contribute their talents.

Wow! I was thinkin' about the same thing for acen! We must all be psychically linked! I know the cowboy bebop numbers, the FFVIII songs, the SM songs, and of course we all could learn the rest before next year! I can also do the spontaneous harmony/improvisation in general. Actually, my friend is a music composition major from Columbia, Chicago and can play piano and transcribe music, and he said he'd be interested in doing a project like this. (Piano accompaniment! Yay!)
Please check out our band's website for examples of how we sound:

I can sing fairly well, and I can learn whatever songs you want to sing...when you come out with the list, e-mail me. I can also download sheet music from the net - I play one mean violin, and I'd love to accompany if you do any classical sounding songs!

I have a very limited range, I'm kinda a mid-alto, I guess...I can sing 1000 no Kotoba from FFX-2 very well, I can sing a bunch of other songs too (like Ai no Senshi from Sailormoon), I'll post up a list later when I can compile it. I can also play violin ^_^

HEDGESMFG

I hope you don't mind a guy wanting in on the singing to, but generally I love singing anime songs in my spare time when alone.

My range is rather decent (mid-alto but VERY flexible for a guy like myself), and there are a good number of songs I like to do(Some better than others):

Cowboy Bebop "Call me" (I actually did this for a talent show and got a great response from it.)
Gundam X "Human Touch" (Hard to do, and but I can do it well when in a good mood)
G-Gundam "Flying in the Sky"
G-Gundam "I'll trust you forever" (English Version)
Gundam 0079 "Fly Gundam!" (Fun to sing)
Sonic Adventure 2 "Sonic's theme" (I can usually do this almost perfectly)
Gundam SEED "Invoke" (I ain't no TM Revolution, I'll tell ya that)
Sonic X "Sonic Drive" (Heck, I already made a parody song of it, but I'd be embarressed to post it :P)
Digimon Frontier "Fire!" (Varies, again)

Oh, and I've always had a knack for spontaneous harmony.

Odin

HEDGESMFG - that's absolutely no problem. I started this thing up, and I'm a guy. I remember seeing you at Acen this year, btw - I love the Haro.

It seems like a number of people (a small number, but this is a small thread anyway) know how to sing Cowboy Bebop vocals and Sailor Moon, along with some of the FF / Lunar songs, at least among those that gave a list. With that in mind, it seems like these could be some possible songs that everybody (or almost everybody) could sing together. Question marks indicate that I didn't see anybody else list the songs, but they seem popular and accessible enough that those interested could learn. Accompaniments to any of these songs would be awesome (for those that would like to play them) :

The Boat Song (Lunar: SSS)
Eyes on Me (FF VIII)
Melodies of Life (FF IX)
Call me, Call me (Cowboy Bebop)
Rain (Cowboy Bebop)
Adieu (Cowboy Bebop) (?)
Flying Teapot (Cowboy Bebop) (?)
Blue (Cowboy Bebop) -it would be great to have some people sing the appropriate background vocals to this, the same that are sung in the intro to the song

I don't know anything about music from Sailor Moon, so for those that do know how to sing those songs can come to some concensus on what would be good to perform. Just make sure to post here about that.

As I mentioned before, I guess I really should wait to come up with a better list once more people become interested. But at least this is a start.

I'm currently planning to go to Kazecon, so perhaps I could stake-out some talent. If I go, that is.

Well, having seen all of SM, I am familiar with a good amount of the music, and could at the very least provide some background.

Bebop songs are going to be a must for a few reasons, though...they're well known (among fans at least), they're damn good, and they're mostly in English...

Basicly, I'm flexible on what I'd learn, so I'll keep up with this.

Heyas, Odie!
This group sounds interesting. I'm in! :bigtu:
Whatever I can sing, I can *mostly* play. Favourites would be:
Nightwalker - Gessakai
Scrapped Princess - Daichi-No-La-Li-La *Note: NO WAY I'm singing this without a girl*
Wolfs Rain - Hot Dog Wolf, Stray
FFVIII - Eyes on Me
Cowboy Bebop - Call me Call me, The Real Folk Blues
Rurouni Kenshin - Tactics, Departure
SCRYed - Drastic My Soul, Magma

Working on:
Guilty Gear, Chrono Cross, Rurouni Kenshin, and other assorted FF Music.

Would you like a Satomi Noda viola player? =D;;

heh, it looks like we have enough orchestra people to form a nice little orchestra. *goes off on own grub* Erg I missed my chance of going to all-state because I had mono!! *goes off to cry in a corner* Welp', at least I got to go last year.

Odin
11-11-2003, 11:37 AM
Well, it seems we have a nice quartet of string-players!

Looking over the list of people that have responded, it seems that a good number of us are in the Chicago area. Could this mean ::gasp:: we could possibly hold some practice sessions?

I'm just throwing the idea out there for now.

*cracks up* IMEA, let me guess? I was in district symphonic band for my trombone and I'm going to be in jazz band on the trombone once more this coming Saturday. I couldn't go to IMEA AUDITIONS last year because I had mono (missed 47 days of school)! ^^;;

Hey, Odin! I'd love to practice with you guys... as long as we do so on the weekends. See, I'd only be able to make a few weekends, even, because I live all the way in East Peoria (three hours southwestish of Chicago), but lucky enough for me, my mom's boyfriend lives up in Chicago. So weekends that she goes up there (I'll contact you later about it), I might be able to practice with you guys.

Edit: By the way! Could we please do the Excel Saga theme (Love ((Loyalty)) ) and possibly even True Light (D.N.Angel theme)? Or maybe the Requiem from Battle Royale? They're personal favorites. ^^;;

Edit 2: Oh, by the way, if someone has a link where I can download all of these awesome songs... yeah, thanks. XD;;

Yep, mono sucks. The funny thing is, my violin teacher still has mono. I haven't had a violin lesson since right before all-district auditions this year, when I was sick. I have the Excel Saga theme and True Light, and I could probably give those to you, but I don't have Requiem from Battle Royale. I really want to see that movie, so I guess I will just have to buy it.

While it's true that we have plenty of time left, if we seriously want to consider this it's never to early to start practicing.

I think we need to start setting up a definative list of songs that those of us who both wish to play, and those who wish to sing can start practicing on. Even if we're only able to practice by ourselves for awhile, we can at least familiarize ourselves with them. This also would give people who sing a chance to get used to the range needed for the song. Even if you can't do the song's FULL range (I.E. some parts could be to high), you can find a way to vocally harmonize with it, and then once (well....IF) we all meet up at some point we can start taking that and assembling it together. Same goes for insturments that are interested, get used to the song, get the flow of what works, try and find where you might fit with it either in the main tune, or in a sort of harmony.

Furthermore, if we want, we should set up an small FTP for Mp3s of the songs so we can get em around between people who need em.

I also have a few more Song Suggestions:
"Voices" - Macross Plus (GREAT Song by Yoko Kanno, would be cool to hear this being done. There is even an English version if we would want to do that)
"Hemisphere" - Rahxephon (Might be tricky to figure out a way to get the insturments to pull it off, but it's a cool song)

These are the anime songs that I can play:
Fukai Mori (Inu-Yasha)- viola and guitar
My Will (Inu-Yasha)- viola
The Real Folk Blues (Bebop)- viola
Yappa Paa (Ranma 1/2)- viola (I'd rather sing)
True Light (D.N.Angel)- viola (I'd rather sing)
These are the anime songs that I can sing:
New World (.hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet)- English words ((There's a lot of them))
Yappa Paa (Ranma 1/2)- All of it
True Light (D.N.Angel)- All
Fukai Mori (Inu-Yasha)- All
Love/Loyalty (Excel Saga)- Most

Yeah, pathetic, I know, but give me MP3 links (or contact me over AIM and give them to me that way) and links to the lyrics and I'll be FINE. XD;;

Since this is a group effort, it would be best if we decide on what songs to perform (along with who will perform them and what will accompany them, if we decide we can perform a proper accompaniment) together. I don't want to make the final call myself, since there are a number of songs some of you, it seems, would really like to do that I'm not familiar with.

So I have an idea.

Would it be possible we could have some kind of chatroom session in the near future? This may make decision making easier than the delay of time caused by posting. It would also be more convenient than meeting in person and making these types of decisions, so our actual meetings could be used purely for practice time.

Also, if anybody has a website and are willing to host MP3s of songs we plan to sing, that would be awesome.

Thanks Odin. Much usefulness. I am planning on transcribing music from Shingetsutan Tsukihime for a quartet(two treble clef parts, one alto, and bass clef) and of course anyone can sing along.

A group chat room would be GREAT. ^^ I'm just letting you know, however, I'm only allowed 2-3 hours a day online usually. Erm, by the way, Koori no Knifu wo Daite is from Yu-Yu Hakusho. It's a song sung by Kurama's Japanese voice actress, and it's beautiful. ^^

Edit: By the way, I can sing Melodies of Life and Simple and Clean. Those should be automatic choices because a LOT of people know them. ^^()

By the way, I can get lyrics for a lot of songs, all you have to do is get in touch with me. 83

Edit #2: Alisa is currently in the process of sending me Call Me, Call Me. So I can get the lyrics and learn to sing it, so... that means at least two people can sing Call Me, Call Me. XD

Ahahah . . . ^^;;; *raises hand* Well I don't really have much experience . . . I used to be in choir, and did competitions then, but that was a while ago. Haven't done anything but karaoke contests recently.

However, if you're still looking for people . . . I do happen to know/can sing nearly all of the songs on your list so far, I know a lot of others as well (a few too many to list; but no one mentioned Real Folk Blues/See You Space Cowboy from Bebop! Aww.) I have no problem with singing in Japanese; I'm pretty good at memorizing lyrics, regardless of the language. I used to sing alto mainly, but I was also pressed into service doing soprano and tenor.

Ehm . . . anyway . . . consider me interested, if you're still doing this. I'll let you all decide whether or not I'm good enough to sing with ya. X3

I just added you to the list on pg. 2, Ayaka.

First order of business: find a proper time to have a chat session (or sessions).

Second order of business: Compile a song list so that we can find something that everybody can work on together. It's not like we'll be performing all day.

Third order of business: Find a place to hold a practice session. Due to weather, it would be best to have this done indoors (and even though there might be some days of good weather, it would be difficult coordinating a meeting on that day (or days) since all of us are on different schedules).

Fourth order of business: Find proper times to hold a practice session (or sessions).

Hopefully the last three issues will be settled in the chat session(s). I would like the main thread to be as little cluttered as possible, so it would be relatively easy for others just checking it out can be up-to-date on what's going on.

Also take note that I edited my previous post and put all of the songs in alphabetical order for easier reference. I hope it helps.

First order of business for Mitsuko-chan: I'm usually online on weekdays from 4-6 or 5-7 P.M. I only get two hours, and it's usually around those times that I have access to it. I'm on AIM right until I get off the internet, which is the full two hours.

Second order of business for Mitsuko-chan: Actually, we need to set up a time when we can do this. I'm going on Saturday, and the morning would be the ideal time to play for me.

Third order of business for Mitsuko-chan: Yeah, if you want to rehearse with me, it would be best to choose a weekend when Mom is going to her boyfriend's so I can easily get there.

Wow, sounds like fun. I've been toying with the idea of going to A-cen for the past 2 years...

Baritone/Tenor here, I used to be able to sight read very accuratly, although, since I haven't in a few years, I'm not that good anymore.

I've got a fairly decent ear, so if I've heard a song enough times to get it in my head, I can play it w/ chords.

I know Eyes on Me like the back of my hand, Melodies of Life I could probably pick up really fast. Now that I think about it, I could probably play My Only Love on the piano as well. Voices as well... the Aria from FF3...

(I've always wanted to re-create the opera scene from FF3 ;))

Um...I don't know if any of you are interested, but I play both flute and piccolo ^-^; I can play a few anime songs, like Memory, Space Lion, and Real Folk Blues from Cowboy Bebop, and Rinbu Revolution and Toki Ni Ai Wa from Revolutionary Girl Utena. I'm sure if I had more sheet music I'd be able to learn more.

So if you're interested in adding a flute to the group, please get in touch with me or reply here. I just need to know awhile in advance so I can prepare.

Well, as of right now I'm the only one who mentioned Sonic songs ^.^()

But nontheless I can do the vocals for Sonic's SA2 theme very nicely when in a good mood. So even if not everyone else was doing it, havind like a Duo doing a few songs or something would be great.

As for a chat time, I'm rather consistantly on in the evenings Monday-Friday. Saturday and Sunday are kind of iffy though. As Odin and I were discussing before, the most important thing right now is to find a good meeting place for practices, as well as to select our song choices.

Plus, right now I'm wondering where in ACEN we'll set all this up? Will it be out by the hallways to get the attention of passerbyers? Or will it be an actual schedualed event?

Odin
12-02-2003, 11:03 AM
It would be difficult getting everybody online at the same time to hold a large chat session, so for now I'm just contacting people individually.

It seems the best time to actually perform at Acen would be Saturday morning, say, around 10-11 or while the registration line is hideously long.

As for actual practice, if it's difficult just to hold a group chat then, well, it'll be even moreso when it comes to physically getting together. Perhaps it's possible we can get together the Thursday night before Acen at the hotel? And also throughout Friday? Maybe somebody leaves near the hotel who has available practice space, or there may be a section of the hotel we could use for practice.

Whichever we decide, I'll definitely have to contact the con staff to let them know we're doing this.

I've been singing in choirs for a long long time (10 years or so) and I have a pretty big range, although I'm a better soprano than alto. I know all the Final Fantasy songs very well, as well as the Lunar tunes. I've had a lot of practice singing japanese as well, so pretty much any anime theme song we sing I can learn as long as I have some time. I don't go to college around here tho, so I cant attend practices or anything like that. But I can definitely know my stuff before the con. Let me know! ^_^

Once I get back to school (in about two weeks) I'm online ALL the time cuz we have broadband, but I'm around my computer the most in the evenings after 6 or so. Screenname - Asharichan

I just realized that it's 4 AM, so I'm not thinking too straight. I sing a lot of Bemani songs. Often. Mainly Beatmania IIDX, because it has more "sing-able" songs. None of these will probably be used, but oh well.. If you have trouble finding one, IM me.

An anime/game CHOIR? Be still my heart! *swoon* I'd love to get in on this! *hearts* I sing, a well established second soprano. I'm good with any and all Sailormoon songs you could drop into my lap (especially the musical songs...) and recently with the FFX-2 songs. *^^* But whatever is decided on I can learn quickly enough.

Awesome!

Wow, thanks everybody for expressing such a strong interest.

As I mentioned in the previous post, it would be virtually impossible to get together before the convention.

Sixpence None The Richer - Kiss me (Japanese version)
Camui Gackt - Tsuki no Uta
Forward you the stuff tonight?

I've recently talked with Alisa, and she will be graciously making the voice and instrumental arrangements for the Sailor Moon Theme, Eyes on Me, Voices, Call me Call me, and The Best is Yet to Come. They should be ready by the beginning of April to be distributed to those still interested, and everybody can prepare for the con. I think five is a decent number, since we'll have a very limited amount of time to practice together and make and outstanding performance.

Ohh! I wanted to do this for Anime Reactor! I'm pretty good at violin, so I can bring mine! I also coudl do vocals for a few songs, provided I'm not alone. ^^;; I don't take lessons or anything, but I'm not a terrible singer.

There's a ton of violinists, but I'd LOVE to be able to play with them all! PLEASE AIM me, because I don't check these boards very often...

I should be arriving early Friday morning.

hey guys, I've been chatting with Odin about the musical stuff for acen
just wanted to throw in my 2 yen...I can do Soprano I, piano, and flute (but don't really want to drag it there ^^), and I'm gonna take a crash course in conducting if I have time before ACen.

Did someone mention doing "Dies Irae" from Battle Royale? Because the choir I'm in is performing Verdi's Requiem at Carnegie in less than two weeks, and we've rehearsed it for the entire year so I know the Requiem up and down X_x But I'd LOVE to get a group together for that, perhaps not this year, but at some point.

Edit: Oh, by the way, I can play classical acoustic guitar, so if you need one more guitar player, please let me know so I can prepare. Oh, and I'll be arriving at ACEN on Friday afternoon.

TO EVERYBODY THAT IS STILL INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN THIS! PM ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BEFORE 4/23/04. THIS IS TO GIVE ME A BETTER IDEA OF WHO'S STILL COMMITTED.

Yui - I was planning on doing this by the registration booth, or at least the line (depending on how long it gets). I found out that this is going to be in the convention center, which should provide adequate space. Over two and a half weeks ago, I made a post on the Acen forums asking about whether we'd be allowed to do this, but none of the staff replied (ARGH!). I just emailed the staff directly, so I hope to get a response relatively soon. If not, I'm going to post some more in the forums or PM the staff that post on the forums.

tohru_tohru - You're more than welcome to join us. The music hasn't bee sent out, since Alisa hasn't finished making the arrangements. She told me that some should be done by April 20th, and the rest are soon to follow after that. If 20th comes and goes with no music, I'll make an update here. As soon as it's finished, I'm going email it out to everybody.

Hey there,
Sorry for stalling and such. Busy with hectic tests and what not. I finished arranging the Metal Gear Solid song, and the Sailor Moon theme, and I currently have my orchestra teacher screening through them for playability goodness. I started Call Me Call Me and Voices. Look forward for seeing the first two (all parts) arrangements on Sunday. I will upload the sheet music to my website then. Sorry for the wait. They will get done by the end of this month though. ^-^'

Alisa - What's up? Could you please email, IM, or PM me sometime?

Flik and Andrew -

Those are some awesome repertoires! I look forward to hearing a lot of these songs. I'll probably spend some time hanging around the piano as well (btw, did you get your screen name from the Suikoden series?).

Keitaro - will you be playing acoustic or electric guitar? If you do play, try to avoid any areas near the video or panelrooms. The staff will definitely get mad about that. Otherwise it doesn't seem like it'd be a big problem (also avoid playing in the lobby area near the restaurant in the evening, since a lot of the hotel rooms are susceptible to the sound. They had a second piano in that area that they kicked me off of last year). Though last year there was a guy walking around with a violin playing everywhere he went at the con - that was cool.

I posted in the acen forums and even emailed the staff concerning this choral/string ensemble, and I've gotten no response. I've given them PLENTY of time to respond, so I just plan on doing some stuff in the lobby piano as usual, and also in the convention center where registration is supposed to take place this year - not only will it be clear of other videorooms/panels, but it ought to afford plenty of space.

To Everybody - Obviously, no music for the group I have been proposing to arrange has shown up. As the con date draws ever nearer, no matter what happens, let's meet up on Thursday evening around 8:00, for those that are there. On Friday, let's also try to meet at 8:00 pm. I will have my cell phone on me, which I will PM to those still interested.

Aye, 'tis from Suikoden.

Ooh, shit, I've got a paper due that Friday, so I'll have to meet up with you guys on Friday.

OK. Odin and I were having some very kick-ass jam sessions earlier, warming up for the convention. Where was everyone?

Expanding upon this, there's this one security guard who doesn't want people playing the piano, EVEN IF YOU HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE HOTEL MANAGER. He has very valid reasoning, which is basically that if he lets say well, me play, then everyone else has the privilege to play, and not everyone will treat the piano with respect, y'know? Even still, this is VERY, VERY ANNOYING. Just thought I'd share that.

[ACEN IS NOW OVER]

Dude. This was amazing. I can't describe it. Just being able to perform for you all musically was fantastic. Thanks so much for being a wonderful audience, and I'm very glad that we could satisfy almost all our listeners with your requests. I'd like to thank all my fellow musicians - Andrew, Stephen, Natalie, Veronica, David, "Sephiroth," the Rikku Cosplayer (You left your music with us! I hope it gets back to you), Tim, Mark for being wondeful people both to work with and for being themselves. Hell, I'd like to thank all my friends who showed up - Erik, Chris, and all you guys and gals who remember Andrew and I from Anime Reactor. OK, there's way too many to thank. Hell man, thank McDonalds for being open 24/7 so Erik, Richie and I march over there

The missing piano disaster turned the entire convention into something wonderful - I'm sure many of you were there when our little entourage was in the hall on the way to the Grand Ballroom asking for your support to sign a petition. We gathered at least 500 sigs with that, and again, thanks for your support.

On Sunday, the director of Live Programming approached us, telling us that we've done a fantastic job, and offered us a room to perform at the next Anime Central.

If any of you are curious if this little entourage has a name...We decided after much brainstorming, to become the "Spoony Bards."

Hope to see you guys again!

For those of you no-shows, shame on you!

I thought it was terrific!!! And that's awesome that he offered you guys a room to perform. I sort of liked it out in the lobby though, hehe... I loved being able to listen to the music while wandering around out there.... it seemed like a very casual, very friendly, easygoing group of free-spirited street musicians playing music for the people passing by... know what I mean?

Oh man, I didn't see that you knew Earthbound music. I so would have requested that! XD

I remember when I saw you guys the first time, I saw mother Sophia singing. I was like to my mom, "Mamamamaman, iiiiiits Mmmmmmmother Sophia!!!!" I was so happy. ^_^

When you guys were playing the Nisan theme on Sunday I was about to cry it was so beautiful :crylaugh:

Hey there! ^-^ That was fun. Next time will be much much better, and hopefully I won't be bogged down with stuff, and sorry I didn't get to PM Odin earlier this week. Things didn't go as planned, but it was still fun, and next time will definately be bigger and better.

About my notebook that I left, it is just printed out stuff I managed to print out right before I came so I wasn't empty-handed, boy this year's ACEN was hectic. It was great all of you, and I can't wait to play violin or viola next time with music. heheh. XD

Considering every plan I made for Acen this year (well, besides going) fell through . . . I had the most amazing time ever!!!

Natalie, Jeremiah, Andrew, David, Tim, Ronnie, Art, Alisa, Mark, Chris (Sephiroth) - you're so awesome. I would have never imagined performing everything we did. It was a surreal, fantastic, overwhelming experience and I can't wait to meet up with everybody again someday. I'm going to get most of the contact info from Natalie so we can start increasing our repertoire for next year (or Anime Reactor?) - last night, we figured out the chord progression on guitar for Simple and Clean. Now all we need to do is figure out the voice parts and we'll be set.

Alisa - I gave your sheet music to Saeru, who said she'd get that to you. Thanks for coming!!! You're wonderful.

I'm still on a natural high from the weekend. Thank you so much, everyone that showed up, and also everyone that supported us on Friday night - that was incredible. I'm wondering if anybody has any video online from Saturday . . .

Odin: Awesome. Most definately I will see Saeru very soon, so thank you. I love Simple and Clean, so *raises hand* of course I will play along. I will do harmony or what not so I don't interfere with the vocals. If so, we can bring mics and amps next time.

I have some good mics, amps, surge protectors, stands, etc. As long as I know in advance how much stuff to bring, and positive who is coming and such, we can be totaly prepped for next time. ^-^

That was incredible!

I'm so glad I got to meet all of you there...Steve, Ronnie, and Art, it was marvelous seeing you guys again, and I miss you already! Jer, Andrew, Ordo, Alisa, Mark, Tim and "Sephy", I'm happy I got to meet you all, you're so talented and awesome!!

If I calculate right (and I probably won't, because sleep deprivation is fun :P) there are 52 official hours of con. I think we can easily say that we spent 30+ collective hours making music.

...damn. XD

As much as I criticize other rabid fanpeople for random use of Japanese, I think I'm justified in saying that anime centrals no naka de kotoshi no konfurensu ga ichiban tanoshii to sugoi deshita!!! I think I said that correctly.

Alisa - that's a lot of equipment!!! We'll work something out.

Aria - I believe we spent at least 5 hours Friday (when did we stop? That's what I don't remember), then 4pm Saturday to around 5pm Sunday playing. Damn near 30 hours!! And then if you want to count Flik and myself on Thursday afternoon/evening . . . Jesus, that's incredible. As always, your company's a pleasure - why does Acen have to be a year away?!?!

Who needs drugs when you have music?

I didn't see you, but I did ask two other random guitar players if they were from cosplay.com, and they gave me confused looks.

Whatever songs you love, man. Closer to the convention, I think we'll post up a list of songs that we know, or something. Just be sure that you can play a shitload of chords and jam with a group based on that.

I've always wanted to hear what "Ending Theme" would sound like done in punk rock. The 20-minute one from Final Fantasy VI. That would be quite an awesome feat.

Edit: I hope you know that I'm being completely absurd and not serious at all. I'd really like to hear FFIV's "Theme of Love" in a fast, 140bpm loud punk-rock feel with lots of distorted guitars, though.
