View Full Version : Misty from Pokemon Cosplay

I need to dress up as Misty, and I'm a guy. Are there any hair products that could dye my hair orange but then be washed out after use? Also, does anyone know where I could buy just the suspenders (I think Party City has them)? I don't have any short jeans or the cut off shirt that Misty wears...does anyone know a store that would carry them (its winter so I'm guessing I'd either have to cut an old pair of jeans or borrow someone elses) ? I'd prefer to not buy stuff online if I don't have to, I just don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money and would prefer to buy stuff from the stores near me.
Well, basically I guess I'm just looking for any tips...I think I can put the outfit together easily enough (hopefully), but my main concern is hair. My hair isn't long enough to do it like hers but I think dying it would be enough.
It's my first time cosplaying I guess and since I'm a guy I want to do it well enough so that people can recognize me as Misty lol. Thank you.

Buying a wig online is not that difficult to do. Try Cosworx or eBay. They usually have good prices along with shipping rates. But do it early because it might depend on how long it takes to ship. Try ordering sometime soon before the con or else you won't get your wig in time.

I think at stores like Hot Topic there are spray-in hair colors that you can get that wash out, or you could also try dying it with Kool-Aid or something like that. I've never tried it personally, but I've heard it works and doesn't last too long, I think.
As for the clothes, yeah I think you could get away with cutting up jeans and probably the shirt too. Just find a girls' top and then shorten it or cut off sleeves if you have too, that part shouldn't be too hard.

party city has spray in color, but i would advise against it. as for the shorts, you'll probably have to cut jeans as you said. for the top, i would honestly forgo accuracy and use a yellow tank top, since you're a guy. you probably don't have the curves that a woman does so by covering your stomach, you can more effectively pull off the crossplay. if you can't find a yellow one, you can just buy a white one and dye it.
and hot topic does indeed carry red suspenders.

Well its actually not a con, my friends having a house party and he likes having themed parties so he decided on pokemon.
Again, like I said, I'm not trying to spend a ridiculous amount of money on something I'm going to wear once and most likely not use again so a wig is most likely out of the question. I would be willing to dye my hair though, as long as it washes out after one use.
I actually went to hot topic today, they had hair product that would wash out after once use but I was unsure whether or not it would work on black (Asian) hair.
I ended up putting together my outfit for around $12. I got brand new red suspenders, a yellow shirt (I couldn't find a tank top so its a t-shirt and I'll tuck it in on the inside I guess), and super short skinny jeans thatll make me look ridiculous. I'd be willing to buy the shoes if I found them for cheap somewhere (again, dont wanna spend $80 on brand new shoes that I won't wear) but its not a big concern. Same goes for the backpack that she wears.
Has anyone with black hair tried using spray on orange color stuff and had good results? Please let me know! Thank you
Thanks for the tips guys

i REALLY advise against hot topic's comb in color. it's bad and does not show up on black hair. the spray in color is so-so if you comb it in after it dries. i only really use red and blue hairspray for games and stuff and this seems to get it less gross. if you're really dead-set on it, you can do a test run but if it doesn't work out the way you want it to, you'd just be better off styling your normal hair like her's.
i think you could get away with some red chucks for the shoes. which is like $45 off their official site but i've seen them in stores at $30.
for the bag, you could get away with something like this. (http://www.trainerstation.com/images/adidas_bag_white_med.jpg)

there are several guys throught the history of pokemon..why in the hell would you choose Misty? rofl..make sure to get pics I wanna see them
Getting a wig will prolly be the cheapest and easiest route to go. with the hair coloring (whether comb in or actual hair coloring) its just a mess to deal with..

Yeah, if your hair is black you're not going to get any results with a temporary hair dye-- and the spray in stuff will just flake and leave a mess on your clothes (I used an orange spray when I was much younger and everyone named me Cheeto head, you seriously flake and leave an orange trail everywhere).
If you want to go cheap, why not look into a halloween/party-quality wig? At least it will be orange?

Yeah that's why I was unsure of buying the hairspray stuff, I figured it wouldn't work with my hair. At this point seems most of my friends are against my dyeing my hair for some reason anyways so I guess I'll be Misty 2.0 with black hair (also, male).
Thanks strawberry lol I was thinking red chuck taylors would pretty much be perfect...maybe I could end up wearing them afterwards lol.
For the backpack I might try to borrow someones red gymsack.
It's pretty much original 150 pokemon + people from old show only. Yeah we're old school like that, since most of us were into pokemon around 10 years ago. Since dressing up as an actual pokemon would be pretty difficult and time consuming (and for me, wouldn't really turn out good most likely), I thought Misty would be perfect.
-Easily recognizable (if you watched at least one episode of the show)
-Easily doable (LOL doable hahaha)
-Easily the best idea ever
Ash: Been done SO many times before, I mean I'm not even a cosplayer but see so many Ash's at halloween parties...also since I don't have any of his stuff, it would clearly take a lot more effort to get than misty (hat, jacket, gloves, belt, shirt..I have jeans thats it)
Professor Oak: I know for a fact at least one other guy is going as him...plus without the hair you'd pretty much just look like a guy in a labcoat
Brock: This was my first choice but idk
Gary: Gary was a douche, even though he always had a beast team in yellow.
In short, I did it for the lulz.

Well, if you do it for the lulz it really doesn't matter how accurate you are, right? ^^;
