I do. I admit. I first crossplayed when i went to basiclly an all girls party (my gf made me go....no im kinda glad i did, cuz then i wouldnt have found out how fun crossplaying is). They put on makeup on me, and almost commanded me to put on costumes and shoes. At first i was complaining, then they held a mirror at me. I was in shock on how passable for a girl i was. I think then is what changed my view on this all crossplay/crossdress thing. Its fun. Especially when the people around you dont care. I now have tons of women's shoes, costumes, etc. But i think the main reason i like crossplaying more is because your being somebody a lot different than when you are just normally cosplaying. What do you think?

yea i know, i pretty much had the same experience.. except ther werent costumes.. they were like skirts and stuff...

my expereince was kinda freaky if u think about it..

after i was dressed up they took me 2 the mall and went "shopping"... but it was amazing cuz no one noticed they didnt stare nor did they tease

^_^ i thank god for my girly look and personality or i wouldnt be able 2 pull it off!! :D

everscince then ive been wanting to crossplay but my mom isnt even sure about regular cosplaying yet :waaaah:

For me, crossplay is cosplay.. I don't view Crossplay and Cosplay as two seperate things, because they aren't two seperate things... So, I don't find it "more fun" ^^;

I guess I'm the only girl that likes to crossplay. Cosplaying is fun, but crossplay is better. I think the best part about it is when people call me a "he" or "him". My goal is accomplished when people say that. My face looks kind of manly anyways; why not us it? ^_^

I enjoy crossplay more because pretty much all of the girl costumes are just a meathod of showing off the girl's body. I also get a kick out of people who mistake me for a guy ^_^ I love all my little Crossplay stories. Fangirls terrify me though. I always make sure I keep a bud around, just in case the terrifying creatures start twards me.

I usually do, but it's more in the characters themselves than their actual gender. I just dress up as the characters I like, and tend to have the most fun that way.

When I did Shippou from Inuyasha, for example, I'm sure I had more fun being in character in pictures as him than I would have being, say, Kagome.

I was called "he" a few times in my chaos costume; not by anyone who knew me (but my roommates were saying "Wow, Eliza, you look really... male..."), but it was interesting. Some people advised taking it as an insult, some said it was a good thing. Seeing as I was trying to pull off the character, I took it as a good thing ^.^

I cosplay characters I am attracted to.
99.9% of characters I am attracted to are males.

If that makes me a crossplayer, cest la vie.
I do what I like.

Heheh, I echo the sentiments of most in this thread. I cosplay the characters I like, and if they're male, so be it. And since nearly all the characters I like are male, well... that's cosplay for me.

I think I actually feel weirder wearing a female outfit, honestly. As I've said several times, me wearing a skirt is a lot like a guy wearing a skirt, except that unfortunately no one looks at me funny for it. :(

I just tend to gravatate more towards the female characters except for my Shuichi costume(but it was a crossdress costume)

Crossplay is still cosplaying. ^^; It's just a form of cosplay. I myself only crossplay and even my Kamijo costume, though he is male and the costume is a coat, not a dress, made me a bit uncomfortable. I just don't like to dress like a girl and the guy costumes are a lot more interesting to me. Plus, I have more male characters that I like than female characters. So, I have a more desire to cosplay them as versus the female characters. In fact the only females I've ever considered were Utena from Shoujo Kakumei Utena and Chloe from Noir. And both of those have loooong since been crossed off my list. lol

it's way more fun (and often funny), to crossplay. i almost always do female costumes because they are far more interesting, sexy, and stylish. plus i love the attention. then again, i usually "dress up" to go clubbing, or just downtown, and wear mana-esque outfits or do the elegant gothic lolita look to freak out the norms. men's fashion is generally rather dull and limited...

Meta, were they putting you in girls clothes or actual female character costumes from anime & games that one would wear at a convention? If they were just putting you in girly clothes, then that was not your first "crossplay" experience. That was just crossdressing, like any other guy that puts on a dress.

Crossplay is just when you're cosplaying someone of the opposite gender. That's it. It isn't dressing in girl clothing. This forum exists to help costumers make their "crossplay" more effective. It also exists because some cosplayers are against gender swapping cosplay, and sometimes support is needed for those that just want to be their favorite character regardless of gender.

most of it was crossplaying, one girl brought some of her costumes, Lulu (FFX), and Lucia (Lunar 2) just to name a few. I did put on just normal skirts and just normal female clothes, also, but mostly female anime and video games costumes.

Crossplay and cosplay are the same thing for me too. As mentioned before I tend to cosplay the characters I like and it so happens that the characters I like are males. Most of the time the costumes I like tend to be that of male characters too XD My first crossplay was Spike Spiegel and I had made the decision based on 1) Spike kicks ass and 2) there aren't many Cowboy Bebop cosplayers (at the time anyway @D@)

Same as most... I just happen to prefer most males in anime... since most females are just an annoying cliche. Anyway, I do get more of a thrill in crossplay though because it is so much fun acting like a sexy bish... it's like being a celebrity when girls go nuts around you. ^^;;

Scortia: it's like being a celebrity when girls go nuts around you. ^^;;

Ain't that the truth XD Especially at things like Yaoi Con.

I defintely am a lot more well known as
''scrawny squall'' crossplayer than my regular
girl costumes. so i do enjoy it more. it's
my goal to be androgynous. i'd be insulted
if i'm crossplaying and people call me a guy.

lol I didn't think there was a category on the kind of cosplay I do till this little section on the forum came about lol ^^ I tend to crossplay. Um. I don't think I've ever cosplayed a female character as of yet o.O; Well, I did femme Vash-- does that count? lol But mostly I cosplay male characters because I like most of them better and can relate to them better.

Well for me I've always used "Well Im A Guy Normally Everyday, So Why Cosplay One?" and i've stuck to that eversince i've first started cosplaying...and Crossplay IS My Cosplay...Its what makes me, me....I don't see myself Cosplaying in the near future as a male, unless the costume is amazingly different, and I LOVE being a girl its so much fun! Especially when people mistake me for a girl...hehe. I Look so much like a girl even w/o a costume on, so its not really hard for me to look like one Crossplaying....but getting back on topic. Crossplay = My Cosplay.

I've always been more feminine than masculine. Crossplay is my way of expressing myself without being ridiculed about it.

I guess I'm the only girl that likes to crossplay.

:::Waves arms enthusiastically::: I'm a girl who enjoys crossplay! ^_^ Since my first costume was Mikael from Tenshi ni Narumon, coupled with the fact that three out of four of my completed costumes are of men, I feel like crossplay is my roots. ^_^
What I love most about it is not only being a favorite character, (which, for me, is usually somewhat of an effeminite man or strong woman) but also to connect with other crossplayers (especially male ones! To me, there's nothing more courageous than a man wearing a lovely frilly dress. :) It's always great to have conversations with a male crossplayer and making plans to be a crossplay duo... 'Tis so fun. XD)

I only cosplay the characters I like, which turns out to be males most of the time. I think I wouldn't have as much fun cosplaying a female character, because I'd be worried about fanboy harrassement.

if i'm crossplaying and people call me a guy.now that is strange. I always thought that the highest achievement a crossplayer could attain was to successfully pass as the opposite gender?

As for me, crossplay is the way to go. But it's going to be a cold day in hell before anyone mistakens me for a women no matter how good i get at this hobby. lets just say i don't have the right "body type" to successfully pass but i still love the hobby anyways. :bigtu:

I'm with the other women who crossplay because their favorite characters just happen to be male. I don't think I pass for much of a guy (dunno, haven't had as much anime con experience as some) but I'm not very feminine either, so I'll go with crossplaying for the characters. I particularly love being Hiei, he's one of my favorites.

Although, I got the strangest comment at DragonCon this year, as Dende, and I'm still not sure what to think of it. Someone who was in the cosplay contest with me had to ask me if I was a girl or a guy under the makeup. They couldn't even tell by my voice. I wasn't sure if I should be complimented that I made such a great costume, or offended that my natural features aren't obvious enough. :)

I normally just cosplay characters I like, so when they're male then it's crossplay. It's more that I have a preference for certain TYPES of characters (and clothing styles), not for the sex of the characters, which is less important to me. (Personally I just CAN'T see myself in EGL, for instance. >.< Nuh-uh. I'm not the femmy type.)

I prefer to dress / behave very androgynous IRL too, but I suppose I don't LOOK terribly androgynous - there's my hips, my feminine face, and my preference for keeping my hair long that tend get in the way, LOL... I consider a crossplay pretty darned successful if I can "pass" (which I doubt I can most of the time.) I'd consider being "mistaken" a compliment, since it's still yet to happen. Certainly my mezzo voice can't push down too far, so it would have to happen before they hear me speak. :p

As for fanboys, heh heh - I've yet to see one that would DARE harass me.

I too enjoy crossplay more than cosplay. I find that I identify more with the male characters than the female characters. (Save for a select few females that I really identify with and/or look like). In my everyday life, I dress like a guy- I wear boy's slacks to school as a part of my everyday Shinji cosplay and I occasionally wear a suit and tie outfit when I'm feeling businesslike. It's more fun and I really dislike the many of the contemporary female clothing. Plus, I am very flat-chested (32 A since 6th grade), so it's pretty easy for me to pass as a guy. I'm almost always called "Sir" in public.

I dunno...my personality is just more like the anime boy heroes/dorks/cute losers than the females. i.e., I'm a lot more like Shinji than Rei/Asuka/Misato and I'm more like Jean than I'd ever be like Nadia. ^_^;; Crossplay rocks!

"Oh, hi Shinji! You know, for a second there, I thought that you were a little boy, Shinji." -Steve Bennett at AnimeUSA 2002

generaly , I prefer to cosplay a male character than a female because the costume is more interesting than a female one :)

I was crossDRESSING long before I was cosplaying. I am soon to try crossplay, but it shouldn't be that big of a switch, seeing as how I've worn girl's clothes before. And I think I'll enjoy crossplay more, I just love the way girl's clothes FEEL on my skin. It's wonderful.

<3 Crossplay.

I'm not sure if I like cosplaying a guy more than I do a girl... but cosplaying a guy has always been more of a challenge and gives me something new to work with and is all fun at the same time. Legolas, well... he's still on the side of girlyness I guess, but I always had to make sure I wasn't smiling for pictures because then I'd like too much like a girl. My Jack Sparrow is proving to be the biggest challenge because I hafta wear facial hair O_O lol which is quite interesting.

Crossdressing and crossplaying is fun! I have more fun crossplaying than costuming as my own sex. But I tend to attract a lot more women's affection when I dress as a sexy guy character. However, if I'm not concerned about attracting girls (like when I'm in a relationship with a girl already), then I infinitely prefer crossplay!

Crossplay. Definitely. I don't know, a lot of cool charas I love just seem to end up being male :] although I can't really say much about my next cosplay outfit being Xianghua's, I also do feel a lot more comfortable crossplaying regardless of binding, and well...the charas I do are just more fun ^-^

I agree, crossplaying and cosplaying don't really make a difference to me. Regardless of sex, you're still trying to roleplay the anime/game character while increasing the likeness as much as possible :]

I love to crossplay. Cause for me the whole point of cosplaying is to be someone your not. And the best way is to be the opposite sex.
And i think that some guys have more comfy outfits then some girls. like i whould never walk around in a mini skirt, it's just not my thing. But for others it might be.

This of course could just be me but taking on a costumed identity is fun but jumping the gender barrier just puts a whole new twist on it. It can be very erotic almost taboo I guess it depends on you motivation. I think people might actually use crossplay as a superficial excuse just to crossdress! : ) Nothing wrong with that, discover yourselves your only young once.

I injoy crossplay much better then dressing as a girl, I hate cosplaying as female characters- somtimes I get draged into it by my friends ~.~ they just dont understand my need to crossplay...
