I'm looking into cosplaying this version of Mystic from XMEN comics
http://www.cosplay.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32270&d=1255398300
and I think I want to wear a dancer/spandex bodysuit thing and paint my face
and neck to match. but I've never done anything like this, so looking for tips
and suggestion of where to buy this stuff and how to make it match so it doens't
look horrible.

I had a friend suggest this place to buy the dancer suit
http://www.discountdance.com/index.php
and wolfe brothers aqua body paint

I would also like any tips on things I could wear for shaping underneath and how I should maybe look for a thicker material made suit for body shaping.

I can't see the images either unfortunately, you have linked to an attachment but there doesn't seem to be an attachment to link too. :)

I really recommend looking for a bodysuit with low sheen, look for terms like microdenier or matt. But a cotton based fabric is probably not what you want either- skin has a very soft and subtle satin shine due to multiple tiny flat surfaces and oils and sweat etc ;)
I do recommend one where you can hide the seams with what ever costume componants you will be wearing and to omit seams where you can if they are visible.

It is probably easier to make a bodysuit as you can find the fabric and put the seams where you need them. You can dye nylon based spandex very easily (remember spandex is only about 5% of the fibre content) with home dyes though you'll want to practice.

I have an old school Mystique costume to finish up. I should get my other camera out or hunt down a non corrupted flash card for my good camera and get piccies up!

I did the same thing with my Mystique cos.
Bodysuit with face paint.
It was the first time i used any kind of paint.

... Just make sure its not grease paint....
And mind that the clothes are white...
Too many times did I end up with blue on my dress and gloves.
