Dude, whoever "hired" people at this con stink. They were by far the most annoying and rude workers ever. They kept like telling everyone to move, even though you weren't in anyone's way, they wouldn't let you take pictures, it was just bad. They wouldn't even let my new friend the naked spike be naked in a box......... I mean, that's just wrong. It was fun though. I got to meet some awesome people. I had a blast, I would say my name here, but I will just say who I was, the guy with pink hair and the leather pants (shuichi).

they weren't even into what they were doing, they kinda just stood there telling people to move away....and they didn't know anything so i had to figure things out myself.

they were *mean* every time we sat down we had to move, even when others were sitting, too!
Besides that they sent us on a wild chase for the cosplay contest. Because of that I couln't enter the Hall competition. They told me it was on the 6th floor, but that was the other competition (we did win tho...)

I'm glad we only went friday.

Too true. :/ grr. But I stayed in there for about four hours anyway haha. ^^;; But yes, those staffers were mean. Mff. I made friends with a lot of the exhibitioners though heh.

I have to agree that some of the staff was rude.But others were nice so that was a good thing.I bet if they had the con in a much bigger place(which is highly needed for this con) i bet they would have been alot better.

The reason they wanted people out of the dealers room is that they had reached fire capicity in there and there was a HUMONGOUS line. Like an hour or so long (I was in it for that long maybe longer). And they only let 50 people in at a time after 50 people left the room. So knowing that I can excuse thier behavior. But they do need to find a bigger place.

The reason they wanted people out of the dealers room is that they had reached fire capicity in there and there was a HUMONGOUS line. Like an hour or so long (I was in it for that long maybe longer). And they only let 50 people in at a time after 50 people left the room. So knowing that I can excuse thier behavior. But they do need to find a bigger place.

and yes..most of the staff were so....bleh.

It was particularly the people near the Dealers Room elevators going up that were mean. Omfg. I was telling this one guy I was looking for my friends (fyre), but he was like acting all assy to me regardless .. and the other guy, he started yelling his head off when he got into this arguement with this guy (somewhat understandable, but man .. short fuse) x_O The people near the doors were pretty nice though .. heh. The escalatorss going down from Dealers Room and the floor above that were apparantly broken by my friend's friend o_o lmao, I dont know how though. But yeah .. wtf x_O The other floors I guess were okay. A bit annoying (we were standing a few feet away from teh escalators for a while, completely out of the way an dwe were still told to move).

And yeah, I'll agree whole heartily to the service, it just plain sucked.

Yes they have done something like this at animeboston.The fire marshall put a cap on attendance on saturday morning.The hotel reached it's limit of people.A bunch of people were not let in from that point on.The only people who could get in were people were pre-registered for the con.But most of the people who were pre-registered were already there.

HNT, yea that was me, I LOVE HINATA, she is my favorite Naruto character because of how strong her will is and she is so shy and cute. fireyoukai16 , yea it was and the picture looks soooooooo cool. I was like, this is the best thing because it's two anime pop stars and your costume was rocking, I love Full Moon so much, she has the heart of an angel. I even cried during ep 42 and the last one. I would be her but the only girl I will EVER crossplay is Kiddy Grade. I am not as cute as you (most people aren't) and I seriously would just look like a bad full Moon.

If you wanna see another series that'll make you cry watch "Saikano" but ONLY if you're ready to feel a sudden wave of induced sadness. That's my recommendation though. e.e;

I went to the Big Apple Anime Fest website and went to their fourms and there is a topic like this complaining about the staff. Well one of the staff members posted there and this what they posted:

Let me start by saying I was a staff member. It was really hard working the fifth floor cause that was the first floor people would see. Everyone would usually stop write off the escalators and clog it up so no one could get up to higher floors. Most people would wander around and not look in their bags for an itinerary or floor maps.

I helped as many as I could (mostly old people with kids) find bathrooms and screening rooms. I apologize for the rudeness you experienced but it was all for your safety and enjoyment. The fire marshal would have closed the entire festival if that floor was too crowded. And screwed everyone out of a good time. with that said please stop complaining thank you.

I found a really easy way of getting around the stupid staffers. Whenever they told me to move on to a different floor but had to be there (for panals) I just ignored them and flashed my speaker badge. That and strategically timed glares got me where I needed to be. Lol, if you act like you belong wherever you are, they'll assume that you do indeed belong there. And about being told not to clog the halls, I'd just say that there were photo-ops in progress and that we were heading up stairs as soon as we were done. I stopped 3 staffers that way.

That's actually how I got into the dealers room last year, I just flashed my badge like I was an important person that was annoyed of showing it all the time and they let me through. XD And that's also how my friend got it, who never paid to get in mind you.

well, I apologize if any of this was me. I don't think it would be, as I was usually just handing out surveys. However, I did get posted downstairs at one point and wouldn't let people up to floor 4.

I was basically told that when I am told to stop sending people up, I MUST stop them. I didn't have much say in the matter. At times like these you really have to make yourself heard or people will walk all over you.

Well, anyway, I could go on, but the point is, I was only doing what I was told to do, and if I was the target of any of that -points at prior posts-, I apologize. At 2PM, when the staff shirt came off and the Kaneda outfit went on, I totally started ignoring the stuff I would have jumped on were I on duty. ^_^

I went to BAAF. I took the train up on saturday morning, and got there around 2 PM. Nothing particularly interesting going on as far as the events went. Cosplay? well, that's scheduled for 6 PM *SUNDAY* night, to finish at 9, immediately followed by closing ceremonies. So i hang out for awhile, working the crowd with my Bardic thing, making new friends and some decent money. I see some old friends as well, get some email/AIM contacts for them, et.c.

Saturday night, see my post in the "Need a place to crash for free" thread.

Sunday was even lamer. I finally took off about 4 PM, headed home. Silence Glaive tells me later about how badly the cosplay sucked, that they had to send gofers to find people in costume in the halls, and *DRAG* them onstage for the cosplay.

Overall?
WORST. CON. EVER.

Not only did the staffers lack a dammed CLUE as to what was happeneing where, and when, but they wouldn't even let you sit down most places. They'd come up and shoo you away, "Move along, you can't sit here." The hotel convention areas had NO chairs/couches/benches of any kind, that i'm used to seeing in the general lobby-type areas of other hotels. the floors were thoroughly dirty, and there was a TON of carpet lint everywhere. They also barricaded the elevators on floors 3 through 7, so as to prevent con attendees from using them, insisting that we use the escalators instead. Said escalators which kept breaking, as we'd overload the weight limit and it would shut down, thus forcing us to all walk up and down between those floors. The hotel staff clearly hated us, put the events in the smallest, most difficult to find rooms, insisting on shutting down all events after 3 am, and generally were total nazis. The air conditioning was hit-or-miss, as it was either 62* and FREEZING, or broken and like 105* in a crowded room.

Regular weekend attendance badge: $40
"Powerpass" badge: $530, which nets you "Priority seating", and free breakfast.
Fuck. if i had had an extra $490 to throw away, you can BET that i wouldn't do it at BAAF on the attendance. I'd have hauled my ass down to Chinatown, or over to Mitsuwa, and gone nuts.

Days i spent at con: 2
Hours of sleep: 1
Money made telling stories: okay, but not great. Did not break even.
Cost of attending, including food and travel, after storytelling: $35
Satisfaction:
0++1++2+-3--4--5--6--7--8--9--10
Will i attend again? Not unless they *seriously* pull their act together.

I'm looking forward to Anime Next with much higher hopes.

I don't know, not all of the staffers were rude, it was usually the SAME people that kept bugging us. O.o; Note, I think we actually moved ONCE out of the 50 kabillion times they asked us to. *punches flower beach ball into the one staffer's face*

Yeah, some of the con staffers were a little annoying, but they were REALLY understaffed and most likely very stressed.

However, I thought the people working in the cosplay competition room were incredibly nice [except for one man who through a hissy fit whenever someone would try to breathe >.>] The coordinator was also very sweet.... the one with the blonde hair. ^^

Actually, most of the staff were very polite to me (probably because I was polite to them. You get what you pay for). Several even offered assistance completely unprovoked. The volunteers, in general, were underinformed but, I thought, game and willing to be respectful of you if you were respectful of them. Many of the logistical problems were caused by the hotel, not the BAAF staffers. I have to say I encountered infinitely more problems with con attendees than with staff.

I lost my anime forever shirt there and my Rei christmas fig... sob... stupid me... put it down when someone wanted a pic and i was putting my head on.... I am hoping that the company will fell sorry for me and send me a new shirt hahaah :}.

I was in line on Saturday morning a good 10-15 minutes before the dealer room opened. The line went forever. I got in the dealer room about 20-30 minutes after it opened lol XD. On Friday my cousin and me didn't know what the line was for so we went in the out doors and no one stopped us but the second time we tried to go in they did lol xD.
But yes some of the staff was annoying.

Ehh, I didn't have too much of a problem with the staff. Just everyone once in a while when someone would ask me for a picture and I'd stop, no matter where I went it was the wrong place to take a picture. Or when me and my friends were sitting on a completely deserted floor where only maybe 5 other people were, they'd ask us to move because it was a fire hazard. But we weren't in anyone's way and there wasn't anywhere else to go. That was kinda dumb. Otherwise I didn't have a problem. I never had to ask for directions because I used the handy little map they gave us in the program book ^^;;;

This is why I don't like to become staff members, its too stressful. People get on your case and basically when your working you become a whole different person with very little patience.

You know u ppl should stop really lay off the staff members. It's not their fault the nazis at the mariott were on their asses 24/7, questioning every action they did. And not for nothing, but I dealt with a LOT of the attendees this past weekend in the game room, and whatever abuse they were put through they deserved.

And look at it this way. Most cons ARENT in NYC. Their in the middle of bumblefuck, Nowhereville and are held in conventions centers or hotels that usually cater to these type of events. The Mariott in the middle of Time Square is defineity not one of those places.

Face the fact, this is a NEW YORK con. And the New Yorker does not take shit from anyone...that's what makes this con so great. If u can make it through BaaF u can survive any con, if not, u can stick with your Shoujocons, we're their like a total of 50 ppl there and the general attendee is like 12.

And for the record, I am BEYOND psyched for animeNEXT...and yes, only for the fact that Itho's there.

I will say this.I had only one bad staff member to deal with.Overall the staff was either decent and a couple of them were nice.Some of them had been under informed or misinformed.I do not hold it against them for such things.Now the problem is this.The con needs to be held in a bigger place that or the friggin hotel need to give up more space for the con and plus the con itself needs to use the rooms more efficently.The dealers room and the game room were a joke.Way to small for the amount of material to be done in those rooms.I think the dealers room should have been in several smaller rooms.Have one or two major dealers in with several smaller dealers in one room and do that type of setup for several rooms.This way there will be no huge waiting lines for the dealers room.The dealers room itself was packed more like a can of sardines.Now onto the game room.Same thing.More rooms that it should be held in.This way it is less congestion.That are some of the ideas to improve this con.If anything this con needs to be held in a bigger better place to accomadate for the growth of this con.Otherwise the con itself will be dieing a slow death and then there will be no con at all.If nothing is done about it i am not attending this con again.

Actually, i wasn't ragging on the staff quite as much as i was the hotel. Yes, it's a hotel in times square. And considering that it is, i'd expect them to have actually vaccuumed the floors before we got there. Alas, no such luck. This is a great con, for not taking shit? Hardly. As anime fans, we're not looking to *give* people shit. We're simply looking to have some fun. And maybe a place to SIT DOWN. But i suppose NY can't actually accept that we're harmless, they're too jaded from all the general nastiness of daily life. So YES, i WILL take my Shoujocon. It's much friendlier, laid back, comfortable. There isn't anyone getting their panties in a twist because someone stood still long enough to take a picture. However, i resent your unspoken implication that we're somehow less sophisticated, due to the fact that we're not tightassed New Yorkers. Much the opposite, i'd like to specify that i feel we are MORE sophisticated, as well as being more TOLERANT and Accomodating. Look at otakon. the BCC employees LOVE us, we're one of the best-behaved groups of people they have. Yet judging by your attitude, not only will NY *NOT* cut us a break, but you actively *support* the fact that they won't?

That's hardly sporting.

Pfeh... I'm not attending this con again, and I hope it dies the slow death it deserves. Yes, I dealt with a few friendly staff-members, and it's probably the organizers that need to work on their technique. However, it was inexcusable how a con attendee would have to go down several floors of broken escalators to get to the different areas, throughout which I could discern nothing that entertaining or well-organized. Then, after looking around for 2.3 seconds for something to do, you get shuffled off to another floor, which is probably closed off.

What, I deserved to be scuttled in and out of that tiny room in 15 minutes for a tournament I couldn't get into because I went to sign up too early? ("We don't even know if the game room will be open today. So, yeah, no sign-ups.") What did I do, besides shelling out $45 for this con and waiting in line for an hour? I'm sick of people blaming con attendees for the bad planning of the people who set up the convention! We all just want to go and watch some anime, play some games, and hang out with our friends. At least in 'Bumblefuck, Nowhereville', (AKA Boston, Baltimore, and other highly-populated cities) it isn't a crime against humanity to sit down in a corner.

If that's what you wanna call it, sure... However, I usually prefer it when staff are patient and at least slightly tolerant of the people who pay money to be there.
By no means was this con great. And if the reason it was that way was the fact that the New Yorker 'does not take shit from anyone', then it'll never be even a good con. Unless, of course, it's moved somewhere else... 'Jerseycon' has a nice ring to it, dont'cha think? At least it would smell better...

i was able to sit down on the corner with my friends, i saw many people that got up the escalator and just stood there, will i was trying to get through, if u wanted to sit down get away from the escalator and any door , i saw down many times and never got pushed around by staff people. i did get mad when the staff started yelling at me for no reason, when i just got to the floor, also they were pretty clueless to where thing were, other otakus were really nice and friendly, and only one escalator was broken...not all, so dont over do it, if u didnt like BAAF so much, dont spoil it for the people that liked it. it had its up and downs. but overall, its was good

My group and I mostly sat in one the corners most the day before moving around for meals and the dealer's room.
