View Full Version : I need help with Char Aznable's helmet and belt.

Hello. I'm going to be cosplaying as Char Aznable (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/08/Char_Aznable.jpg) in his Zeon uniform from Mobile Suit Gundam.

The only parts that I'm still not sure how I'll make are his helmet and his belt. I think that I have the inner mask figured out, except I don't know what to do about the white eyes. His helmet is the same shape as Darth Vader's so I can do whatever one would do for a Darth Vader helmet. I don't really have any idea what I'll do about the belt. Here is another image of Char (http://img.jeuxvideo.fr/photo/00498673.jpg) where is belt is more visible.

I appreciate any help you all can give me.

Depending on how close the mask is to your face, your budget, and how high-quality you want the costume to be, the white eyes can probably be done with tightly-stretched white stocking material or one-way frosting film for windows on clear plastic/plastiglass.

As to the belt, I think I have seen that buckle (if not that entire belt) in a Power Rangers costume at a store (either Wal-Mart or, more likely, a Halloween specialty store). It was gold, though, so you'd need to paint it. If you can find the buckle, though, the things on the sides should be simple to make from Model Magic (I don't know how well it would hold up at that size to the stresses of being pushed back and forth while walking, or if you get bumped into, though) or Sculpy Extra-Light. The buckle is really going to be the most difficult part of the belt, unless the things on the sides wrap much further around the back. A replacement backpack strap (one of those waist straps with the large, curved, plastic trident clips) with a covering that looks like the buckle might work, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, that helped with the belt. I'll make the sides, and buckle if necessary, along with perhaps the crest thing on the helmet out of Sculpy. I'll make the mask out of either cardboard or fun foam and then probably do the thing with the stockings for the eyes.

The only things that I have left to figure out now are how to go about making the helmet and what type of fabric to make the costume out of.
