I went on Saturday, so here's my 2 cents ^_^

Eh... $30 for one day for a small con... eh... a little too much.. but hey, what do I know.

Anyway... Hm.. first of all their first 2 video rooms were a fair size but the others were just... eh... small, but I guess not a lot of people really wanted to watch anime... Most of the stuff they showed were already shown at Otakon and AXNY.

The panel room and video rooms were kinda chilly.... I got Kia's Signature!! ^_^

Anyway, the game room had a variety of games so it was fun... but I hated the Red Octane pads for DDR, they are TOO thick<--- really reduces a person's speed and they break too easily....

Now, the Dealer's Room: 10,000 square feet doesn't mean anything... The Dealer's Room sounds big but it was still kinda small. They had the usual Con merchandise. Prices varied but they were considered good.

I didn't get to see the industry panels so I don't have any comments about it.

The Masquerade was... eck.. I didn't like it. There were too little people that participated... And they didn't give the winning contestants any good prizes... All they gave were some Pocky and 2 DVD sets out.... And personally, I felt that they didn't choose the right winners....

-_- Unfortunately, I had a buddy that had to get home early so I didn't get to see the Karaoke after the Masquerade, so my 2 cents ends here. So what are your views about Anime Next???

You did go? I didn't see you... Didn't you say you were gonna stalk me or something like that? >.>

Anyway.

It just plain ruled. My first small con, this was. And I loved it. I knew so many people. And I've gotten so many hugs, never have I felt so loved XD

Those 'red octane' pads... were two konami pads stacked together. That made for some buttons messing up alot...
But I still kicked ass in it; and I even was complimented by Jamie McGonnigal (sp?) !!
The game room had a really nice spread of games. Shit, they even had Bomberman for Sega Saturn! I was playing that for a good hour. Though I was a little upset that all they could get for DDR was Konamix... I was hoping for MAX >.<

The masquerade... well, three words:
Random Conga Lines
In other words, it was so loosely run that we coud do sporadic stuff like that, while still keeping organized. And Pocky is a great emcee =P
Our skit ruled, even after altering it because our original GTO and Zell never showed up. We knew we wouldn't win anything, so we said 'fuck the judges, we're gonna give the fans something to remember' ...and... Carrie and Anna (Ellone and the SchoolGirl) did so very nicely... *cough*... We came, we gave fanservice, we offended.
Does anybody else think the Magic Users Club skit was judged with wayy too much bias? e.e;;
About those prizes: Remember, this is just a small con. If you get recognized for winning, more power to ya! But in the end it's just to have fun, not to win prizes, you gotta keep that in mind.

And that makes four cents so far. Anybody else?

Oshi, sir. She did see you. I pointed you out like 20 times -- but she didn't say hi because she's a wuss. xD I did get your picture tho. Remember an asian girl with black trench and a cactuar? LoL. That was me. xD

You looked so hot as Seifer. xD Nice skit too. LoL.

I guess I should respond to this, since I was on staff.

There's not much I can say about the dealer's room or panels. BUT.. I can comment on the cosplay. Yes.. there weren't too many entries, which is why there weren't many prizes. We expected a small turnout. So that's why there were supposed to be no judges awards, since there were supposed to be 3 judges. Next thing you know 5 voice actors show up ready to judge. And they all wanted a judges award, even after I told them there was nothing to give. Myself and Maureen had made the trophies, and that's all that we were supposed to have. I'm sorry if you were unhappy with who won, but again, the majority of the winners were selected by the voice actors.

I tried to run the show as best as I could, since it was my first time in that capacity of cosplay cordinator. Its not as easy as it may seem, especially wehn you're under the gun to get everything done, get everyone lined up and ready, AND start on time.

You said hi while walking past me, which confused the heck out of me just suddenly hearing "Hi Oshi" =P

Esmeralda: *applaud* You did a great job, really ^_^; We can't be upset with you for the winners, only the winners, since they... basically bribed their vote. Still, it was really good, and we all had alot of fun! ...and I reiterate, the blatent yuri from my group was not planned o_o;;

I thought overall AnimeNext was really fun! Like Oshi said, there were so many people we knew there, so it was like an AXNY/FF reunion ^^ I personally thought that Saturday was the BEST day!
But yeah... everybody was so nice! The voice actors were so kind and friendly and the staff were great!!!
The Conga Line was the best part... LOL!!!! XD

I wish I had more of a choice on the judges, but most of the people I wanted to ask were either going to AnimeUSA, or were busy for the weekend. So the con chair said the guests would happily fill in. And even after I said 3.. and ONLY 3.. 5 show up, and he told me just basically to let them do it. Which myself, and my co-cordinator were pretty pissed off about. The VA's were nice people.. but I dunno. Same for Steve. Nice guy.. but well.. I would have prefered more people from the cosplay community. Blah.. hopefully next year.

Oh yeah.. DUH! Congrats to everyone who did win. Sorry there weren't better awards, but they gave me no budget. But all of the skits were great, and the audience really seemed to be behind you guys. And yeah \o/ for Conga.. bah.. you guys should have wound it across the stage.

Don't worry Emeralda, we're not upset at you for how the judging went down, and at the very least I'm not bitter about it. I still had a lot of fun getting on stage a lot sooner than I thought I ever would. I can't wait to do it again next year.

Oshi: contrary to what your group was told... I am completely fine with the Yuri! After the cosplay Pocky pulled me over where Anne.. err.. I think it was Anne.. was, and she apologized. I told her it was fine, not to worry about it. Heck, it was so quick I didn't notice it... but if I had.. well hey.. there were other kisses in the cosplay, so what's one more?

Heh.. thanks for the applaud as well. Sorry we didn't get to spend more time with everyone during the craftsmanship judging part, since Mo and I were constantly getting pulled away by tech crew, intterupted by people wandering in, and just stuff in general. We were very impressed with you Seifer coat as well, since you went the extra step and lined it. It came out really well.

Well here I am. After a long grueling commute BACK to NYC and a 6 hour work shift...

The judging was BS. I'm sorry, but that Magic User's Club did that same damn skit at Animazement and Shoujocon! Bad enough that said friggin judge played friggin favorites!

But on the good side, NYO! Cosplay did walk away with 4 awards! :D

Yes, Kevin got a very... er.. nice shot of Anna's 'pantsu'... >.>;

Wow, thanks alot Em ^_^; I'm glad you liked it!

Concurrent with Ranma... the MUC skit won through nepotism (sp?) and bribery. I mean, you saw how much... that was Jamie McGonnigal, right? How much he loved that staff they gave him.

We would have made the conga go onstage, but a bokken wielding cross dressier devertied our path. And since I'm sure how well me beating HIM down infront of so many witnessses would have definetly would have got me tossed from the con and possbiliy some jail time, I didnt, despite the fact that HE even cornered Anna and started preaching about morals (Talk about a Hyprocite)

As for our skit, yes we did offend as planned and eariler today, the original GTO caught one to the jaw when i returned to SI.

Judging: Other than the bribed Weiss Kriess mook, i had no problem with the decisions at all. Sides, we tramatized the crowd the most (hehhe that makes 2 cons this year go CHris written scripts) and probably left them with a few memories as well. And other than the Magic Club Using fools, the cosplayers in general were cool (props to the Rikkus, the Hellsing squad, and Ken and Dan, who partied with us later that night)

Overall , it was fun for such a lil con. Cant wait for next year, and I hope to see the whole lot of ya at Otaku-Con next month in the Big Apple ^/^

I want to know two things. One... where exactly did the bokken come from, since I know said person didn't have one earlier. And two.. who gave him authority to stop you. At that point it would have been a fun diversion for everyone. And the pressure was off, so heck, cut loose. One more thing for me to rant about come meeting time.

Anyone else have personally issues with said person, come to me. I want to know. I know about him cornering Anna, which hopefully she finally believes me that everything's okay. I'm severely pissed about it.. and I had to hold it in Sunday, since we still had 6 hours of con to get through.

LOL, your welcome I think.....I have no clue where he got the bokken from, all i know was the he was a volunteer. And i agree it would have been a fun diversion.....almost a fun as me beating with the said bokken, while singing the lyrics to "Eyes on ME"....but yeah moving along...

Anyone else have personally issues with said person, come to me. I want to know. I know about him cornering Anna, which hopefully she finally believes me that everything's okay. I'm severely pissed about it.. and I had to hold it in Sunday, since we still had 6 hours of con to get through.

I think i was more pissed at Him than she was.....but i must appluad u once more (claps again) this is the first time i've seen someone from a con promise to take action when one of "Theirs" screws up. This means a lot to me, and if u want a revolt, count me in ^/^. Or just come to an NYO gathering in Manhattan, there should be one in a few weeks, if u want in just say so ^/^

OMG....AnimeNEXT was awsome. For a first-year con that was thrown together in less than 8 months, I have to give all that were involvolved a big "thumbs-up" Wish the weather was a little nicer, but we were inside. So much for my spectacular view of the NYC skyline I had Thursday.

Only thing I have a gripe over is all the bickering about cos-play!?!? Well, if you won, congrats, if you didn't, let it go. Do you really, really think that complaining about it on an interweb forum board is going to change the fact that the judges chose someone else?
PLEASE...............we all like to win, but hey it's a contest. If you don't like to lose, then here's a hint. DON"T ENTER........ this isn't Rocket Science.

And this one is for DJ Ramna.....dude you need to chill. Here's another little tid-bit for you. Aren't you on the staff of Shoujocon? That looks real professional of you to blast the Staff of AnimeNEXT when you personally are on Shoujocons staff. That's prety lame, and you get the big.....FU......for that one. Hope someone tells your con-chair about that one. Ugh, that makes me sick. Oh, and go ahead and respond to this, I really don't care what you say or think about me. It seemed like every one of the staff at AnimeNEXT was busting there ass trying to make their show something special for the fans who enjoy anime, cosplay and getting together with their other friends. Please let's not try and spoil it for the rest of us. I can understand that you have your own opinion, and was noted. But let's try and keep the comments and critizism the "constructive" kind. I don't know about you, I had a better time at AnimeNEXT then at BAAF\AXNY and it's 20 minutes from my house. If we all get on here and state, "it sucked" or "was a crappy con" then I will have to keep driving down to Baltimore and Virginia all the time.

Let's not start a flame war here.

For a first year con, yes, Anime Next was good and all the people probably worked hard on it. And it seems that the people that are disagreeing with the cosplay is only disagreeing with the judges NOT the cosplay coordinators and staff. I think that everybody on this board acknowledges the fact that holding up a convention is hard work.

Yes.. I should be in bed.. long time ago.

CHris: Yeah, kinda hypocritical for someone to say no yuri kissing at a con who's got a room sponsered by Yuricon? Again, No problems with the skit from myself or Mo.. thumbs up. And it wasn't too raunchy either.. Anyone who was at Neko R will KNOW the definition of a raunchy skit. Thanks for the votes of confidence and cheers. And I want people's feedback. Heck, how am I supposed to make things better if I dont weed out all the problems. And yes, I'm a huge Xenogears nut.. hence the name and icon.

Deranged fanboy: I'm a little too tired for l33t or whatever that is >.< Umm, thanks to you too. Glad you had a great time. We're definitely doing it again next year. (YAY!) Just wish it were closer for me, I still have a bit of a drive. But it is better than the 5 to Katsu. And I have to agree with Keurblitz, no flames please.. people's costumes are flammable after all >.<

Oh, and on a final note, any comments questions can be sent to feedback@animenext.org or if its regarding cosplay (ie: things like the judges etc) send it to cosplay@animenext.org so Mo and I can get it directly.

Okay.. now to drag my sorry and exhasuted ass off to bed. No conga for me tonight. Puu

Like I said on the COSP ML, I had problems with teh judging and the cosplay, and yet I get ripped apart? What kind of shit is that? I do believe that is the pot calling the kettle black. Perhaps if allowing more than 16 entries and not having cosplayers bribe judges, I wouldn't even be running my mouth. Overall, it was a good con. But if there wasn't that many elitist cosplayers who think they know better, then perhaps a lot of cosplayers such as myself wouldn't be so bitter about it. I know for fact there will be some major feedback about this, but you know what? send your feedback here- djranmas@earthlink.net, no need to start yet another flame war here, because some people's egos are so friggin huge.

Um.. gee, from the looks of thing, all he said was that the judging was bull....nothing about the con itself, or the ppl who ran it...so yeah, READ before you start tearing up people.

My beef lies with the that Omi-tard as well, not to mention anyone who comes after a cosplayer with a bokken for a frikkin conga line. Em proved that the majority of the ppl from AnimeNEXT are cool and I do plan on returning to AnimeNEXT next november once again. It was a small fun lil con, and after that horror show that was AXNY, it was more than welcomed.
It's just a shame that some people had to ruin it for us, but if it looks like our dear friend Em is taking care of it, so everything should run better next year ^/^.

Anime is fun. T_T ... Cosplay is fun. People should just relax but I do agree with people when they say that the judging was not fair. I was there watching and there were many skits that deserved some recognition..but didn't get any. Those judges were just choosing that mahou tsukai tai skit because they gave the judge a wand...e.e... I'm okay! I think he only did that because he voice acts for one of the characters..but yeah..

Moving on to other things.

I liked the con. It was great. Small but very quaint. People there got a chance to meet eachother and there weren't huge lines. I liked that. I think for a first year, it was a good con. Kudos to the staff members because they rocked. Either way, people shouldn't say anything that would hurt eachother's feelings -- and people who are hurt, shouldn't post something DIRECTLY on the cosplay board -- it's just unfair to others. It's just not "professional".

Now I sound like a peacemaker...e.e;; ... but anywhooz, people have their own opinions and others should respect it. This board was made to post opinions and help others. Not curse eachother out because one is angry about something. ^^ Next time, try to be more mature and considerate to the other people on the board. I'm sure Aeris-sama would like that.

Blah. I already made my post in LJ and on COSP, but as most of you know, my group and I only went up for the day on Saturday, to hang around, compete, and relax. It was *fun* (sans not eating and doing the usual learning choreography right before the skit, but whatever.) Um, from what I understand, it was pretty good for a first year Con.. no major explosions or anything, etc. Laura and 'Mo did a great job running the Cosplay, although my whole big issue with most cons is Quality of the Craftsmanship Judging itself, they were big on the whole "flip over seams and check stuff" , which is great.

SO, our performance went over well as we did our short Dance of the Elements and it was all fun. I was particularly surprised at seeing Kevin Lillard there at such a small Convention, but it was welcome. Being all over (and on the front page, wheee!) Fansview is a thrill and a half. ^.^ Our awards were really flattering, and just the fact that we won something was a thrill enough for me. I had a blast working with Layla, Allie (her first cosplay, too!), and Annie. I'm particularly proud of how Layla's costume turned out since she did it on such short notice, and Annie's Elemental of Earth Costume is my personal favorite of the other three. I've never soldered anything before, so it was a new experience, and I'm really glad the judges picked it apart.

Next year I want to go for a more intensive judging for craftsmanship, more like what went on at AXNY. I just didn't have enough time to talk to everyone, and I feel like I didn't spend enough time with everyone. But I kept getting pulled up front to talk with tech crew and other various things. Sorry everyone, I promise to spend more time with people next year.. time where AV isn't blasting in our ears, and walls aren't being slammed behind us. Uggh! I apologize for that everyone.

But yeah, Kevin was there.. and I'm greatful. I'd emailed him a few months ago if he was coming or not.. hey, HE doesn't even know where he'll be from one weekend to the next anymore.

Mmmn.. does anyone know if there's a tape of the cosplay. Something I completely forgot was to track down someone with a video camera. Blah! I'll actually check with the rest of staff, because I think I saw someone all the way to the left of the stage with a camera, but I could be mistaken. I will let everyone know though.. because I'd like to make copies available if I can get ahold of it.
