View Full Version : A different take on Poison Ivy?

Well, after months on working on my Clockwork Orange cosplay I came to realize it just wasn't working out. After much deliberation I figured I'd try to go as Poison Ivy.

Here's my dilemma:

I just can't bring myself to go as the more conventional idea of Poison Ivy with her characteristic leotard style costume, nor do I feel comfortable showing off too much of my body. As A-kon is only a week away I am also unable to whip up some masterfully artistic corset or make anything by hand. I then stumbled upon this picture: http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs50/i/2009/260/8/2/one_version_of_poison_ivy_by_MurderShannon.jpg and I got an idea. Why not do a more modern/punk almost apocalyptic version of Poison Ivy?

I have both green and black fishnet tights and shirts and plenty of spikes and fake ivy plants lying around the house to maybe put something together. But I wanted to know if people think this would be a good idea? I would keep the red hair and ivy on the body and hair but instead would be wearing either all green fishnet with black (and I hate to say this) booty shorts or all black fishnet. I would wear black boots with green ivy on them and green laces. Also, I would incorporate my two tattoos in this costume by adding leaves to them, and in the case of my back tattoo, a fake moth.

Please any input would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I think this sounds like a great idea. I would definitely keep the green fishnets along with the black, and use lots of ivy. Maybe some green make up too? Nothing too crazy, but maybe green eyeliner or eyeshadow in a punk/goth type look, or green lipstick? Green nail polish could also be cool. Honestly, I think it'll be the shoes (punk type combat boots?) and the attitude that will make the outfit. If you can rock the outfit with a combination of Ivy's self-assured and sexy attitude, and a hardcore punk attitude, I think people will not only recognize the character and the twist you've added to it, but also get a serious kick out of it. Just be confident wearing it, know you look good and have a unique take on an often over-done costume, and strut like you know it, and people will love it, IMO.

I agree with Glasscannon; you should totally go for it! Props on such a creative idea! :D

Yes! I love Ivy but much prefer the crazy takes on her that you see in Arkham Assylum and even Batman and Robin ;)

Sounds great! And hey I got mistaken for her in my Witchblade outfit. You certainly will be recognised as her ;)

Definitely do it! My Ivy is a bit different as well (I'm doing a green gown that's sheer over the legs and basically doing a spin off of the Arkham makeup for the vines), so I don't see why doing a different version is a bad thing. ^.^

Everything GlassCanon said and more! :) Original spins on characters can work out great, especially with ones so mercurical as Ivy. I think she looks great in almost anything (provided you keep the color scheme) and is recognizable in either a ballgown or thong and barely-there bra XD

Go for it! o(^_^)o
