I don't know whether a thread like this has been opened before- I am sorry if I overlooked it.
I have a big problem that already lies some years in the past, but it never left my mind.
In May 2008, I have been ripped off in the market place of this site and lost about 150Euro.
Since the seller lives in the US and I am in Germany, I can't really do anything about it,
but it pains me to see that she still comes online and ignores ALL MY MESSAGES.
It does not even matter on what plattform I write to her; cosplay.com, her Livejournal, her 2 mailadresses, ebay, paypal... she ignores it. What hurts me more is that she owns a website, makes commissions, sells on conventions but no one is able to help me or just promises to talk some sense into her... I am left alone with it and I was dumb for trusting her when she said she'd send it and it was finally too late to inform Paypal and get my money back...
I read that she does well now, she gets only positive feedback to her sales,
but why can't she even apologize, refund me or send the costume I bought?
... I am so disappointed. :lost: Is there any way to get help over this site??

Advice ~

Step 1 ~ leave posts in both of these threads describing your experience:

Include her name, contact information, website, aliases, etc. This will help warn others not to make the same mistake you did.

Step 2 ~ Leave poor feedback for them on their account in the marketplace and notify an admin on this site about the trouble. With any luck, this will disable them from doing the same over and over.

Step 3 ~ If your paypal transaction is within the limit for complaints, issue one and have paypal get the money back if she can't provide proof of shipment.

If you used a credit card to pay these fees, call your credit card company and see if they can perform a chargeback or open a dispute case for you.

Sadly, may be out of the money this time... but you can learn some valueable lessons from the experience and help others from getting screwed over too. It's a huge risk to work with people who don't have feedback or whose feedback you haven't thoroughly researched. Always check before entering a transaction and if you can help it, pay by credit for an extra layer of protection.

Doubt it. The site expressly washes its hands of anything in the Marketplace. I doubt they will ban except in extreme cases (only seen it happen a few times), and if what shes says about their feedback being all but golden now is true, I doubt that'll happen...

Always hate to hear this- especially as a prop builder. Always be careful, research them if you can, and NEVER pay more than 50% upfront. Ask for progress pics. I know- hindsight.

Since she still is in buisiness and has ( /has had) positive feedback I trusted her completely.
I don't think I acted very careless, since it wasn't the first time I bought something over the net...

I can provide Information about her, though.

Her Name is Aleksandra Valiunas and she is known on cosplay.com as AlikNyankoChan.
Her profile is: http://www.cosplay.com/member/8732
Her Homepage is: http://www.alikscosplay.com/
Her Etsy Shop is this: http://www.etsy.com/shop/alikscosplay

But you will see that she has only positive feedback... However, if you do some
research in the marketplace, you might find the old entry of the "Millenia Cosplay" (Grandia 2) she "sold" to me... I wrote a comment under it to express my happiness at that time... =(

But you will see that she has only positive feedback...

I didn't mean to imply you have been irresponsible, only that we all tend to learn lessons about private transactions the hard way. Sometimes you just need to make the most of a bad situation.

As for the feedback situation: if you don't leave her negative feedback she'll continue to have only positive feedback... ^^;;

Is it possible she sent it out, but it got lost in the mail being air mail and all?

Also I highly recommend saying who it is in this thread, if for no other reason then at least some people would know not to comission from him/her/it

Hm, and if you still try to contact a Marketplace admin? I mean they're admins, right? Maybe if they research the thing and message her she'll give in? I think it's worth a try.

Btw, you don't have screenshots of the old entry, do you? Cause I couldn't find anything when I searched. ><

Yes I think I can try to contact an admin... but if she was banned from this site, it would also
be a loss of proof and I'd loose a way to contact her.
I once wrote to a convention that she was going to sell her stuff at, but they
did not tell me anything. =( I didn't try to black mail her, I just asked them to remind her
that she still has to send me the costume...

If she has send it out and it never arrived and got lost-
What is she afraid of? She could at least be honest and tell me,
but she never answers, no matter what I write... It looks to me
that she is doing it on purpose.

I searched for the entry of the costume too, but havn't found it yet-
If I would scan through "all ads" and go through the nearly 900 pages, maybe
I would find it, or unfortuneately, it has been deleted. I'll search for it, but
it may take a while. =( You can see that she owns this costume on her profile,
but hasn't uploaded any pics with it: http://www.cosplay.com/member/8732
She wrote it as "miallenia" from Grandia2. I payed the costume on may 15th in 2008.

However I have made a screenshots of the paypal payment:

Dude! I'm having a problem with the same seller.
I looked her up in hopes for some additional information, and I came across this.
I talked to someone who ordered a cat tail as well as I did, for a good amount of money.
They recieved it, but only 3 hours before the deadline, which is ridiculous.
I'm so mad. Paypal says it's been shipped, but I actually had to call USPS Customer Assistance. They said nothing's been sent, though. They're investigating it.

Just food for thought, I also run a shop on Etsy.com and buy from the same site but you will notice something a bit strange about her 100% positive feedback...underneath it it says how many orders she has sold, which is 50 but her positive feedback is only 13????? Where is the feedback from the other 37??????? Either they are too lazy to leave feedback or the item was only so-so or they were dissatisfied but were too nice to leave negative feedback. Its something to pay attention to in the future, if a person has so many sales and so little feedback its raises red flags in my mind.

I feel for you tsubomi19, I also got ripped off at the marketplace too last month and the well the costume wasnt expensive so I took it as a lesson learned but I wont ever buy from the market place again because of it.....

Dian, Celestial Shadow,

Sorry it took me so long to answer. I just read your posts. I still havn't received any word from her. I just read, that she has been on Dragon*Con, but I am not really sure- Anyway, i don't think the organisators would have helped me in this case... =( ... and I could not afford to go to a US con, or go there just to confront her...

Maybe there is a possibility that Dian and I together try to get through to her? Maybe we could also contact a person I noticed that left negative and a person which left neutral feedback on her etsy.com? She has facebook, too, so maybe someone could write to her there? Or we try to find a person that owns a telephone number?

I would also never buy from this place again... only sell. =(
