View Full Version : Help with EPIC long Cammy braids!

Hi all! I'm planning on cosplaying Cammy White from Street Fighter (obligatory reference pic for ya) http://media.dongua.com/photo/wewa/7ed2bc017e5332be.jpg. Her Delta Red costume is pretty simple (aside from the gauntlets) but I need help with the hair. Currently, my hair is fairly short and dark blond. I'm really doing this costume on a budget, and I also have a fear of wigs. Be that as it may, I want to have some braids! Sooo...I've seen some other cosplayers on this website just dyed their real hair blond, and used extensions for the braids. You can tell they're extensions, but they actually look pretty good! I want to do that, and just attach the braids under the beret.

I have never bought hair extensions before so I'm a bit confused about how many I need to buy to make some fairly thick, LONG (3 feet or so) braids. I'm thinking the 48" extensions like these: http://www.doctoredlocks.com/catalog/Silky-Straight-Kanekalon-Braid/ in "lightest ash blond." But....I don't know how many I would need for each braid (approx how thick are these types of extensions?) and how I could attach the hair to a clip/bond it at the top. Would I need to buy pre-bonded extensions for this???

Please give me some advice peeps! I'm counting on you!

For my Duo Maxwell wig, I actually made it as a separate braid extension piece in a base wig, so I might be able to help XD;

I used about 2 and a half packs of those very extensions. It wasn't braided SUPER tight, but not super loose either. This is how thick the braid ended up:

The braid itself is about 4' long. (I'm 5'1")

I left about 6" of loose fiber above where I tied off the braid (it was tied off both on top and bottom) to figure out how to attach it to my wig. Here's the process of how I put it into my wig, which might help you figure out how to attach it to your beret: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?p=2959996&highlight=braid#post2959996

It will make your beret heavy though, let me warn you. My braid certainly weighs on my wig.

I wouldn't recommend attaching the braids to the beret. Try putting your hair in pigtails, and attaching the extensions to the pigtails. (Mount the braids on hair elastics that you can tie around your own hair - that's how a lot of store-bought hair extensions work, too.) It's going to be a lot more stable and it'll look more natural because your hair will actually be in pigtails, not stuffed underneath your beret or something.

UPDATE: Ok, believe it or not, I actually went to a wig store in town that had an AMAZING selection of extensions. I couldn't find the same brand, but I found just what I needed. I bought 4 packs of Afrelle Kanekalon extensions called Rast A fri in color 613 (a very light blond...pretty much the same light ash blond I was looking for!) It was slightly cheaper since I didn't have to pay $10 worth of shipping, AND I don't have to worry about them not getting here before Friday. Whew!

I used two packs to make a braid to make sure the braid would be the right length and thickness. It's actually a little too long, but not by much...just like an inch or two. ^_^ Now I just have to find some hair bands that are a similar color and figure out how to properly attach it to my real pony tails.
