We USED to watch cartoons. But I rarely see people who cosplay as cartoon characters.

My friend and I like to be different, and always on the last day of an Anime con, we always cosplay as a cartoon character to bring back some old memories for cosplayers. Like last year, we did Ami and Yumi from HiHi Puffy AmiYumi. This year, we're being GIR and Gaz from Invader Zim on the last day of AX.

So, I was just wondering.

Does anyone here cosplay as cartoon characters besides me and my friend?

me and some of my friends debuted a complete Dethklok (from Metalocalypse) group at WonderCon earlier this year - most fun I've ever had in cosplay was in that group XD

I've cosplayed Kim Possible with my friends as Shego and Ron Stoppable. It's really not as uncommon as you think.

I've done Cosmo from the Fairly Odd Parents as well as The Ice King from Adventure Time. Cartoon cosplay is so fun and is probably one of the only times I feel at ease in cosplay, it makes me feel so young and alive, haha.

I LOVE my Alice cosplay to death, it's probably been my favorite costume so far. One day my friend and I plan on cosplaying as Lumpy Space Princess (friend) and Princess Bubblegum (me), as well as doing Candy Wife (friend) and Flapjack (me).

We also want to try Doki and Nabi from the 'There she is' cartoon series on SamBakZa :3

My cosplay group are doing W.i.t.c.h. cosplays in October. Ok, it'll be the comic versions rather than the cartoon versions, but still, it IS a cartoon.

LOL I do have Jack's sword and have been meaning to try it out, my only issue it the hair. I think a damaged Samurai Jack would be epic. xDD I <3 that show. I actually thought about also cosplaying Aku from that episode where he tricks Jack by portraying a Woman. xD I liked that dress. LOL

k, Geek out over. xD

I've done a Toki Wartooth cosplay from Metalocalypse and I have to say, that cosplay was probably the one I had the MOST fun in, lol. =P I'll probably be bringing him to Otakon so that's going to be fun.

Well, I've seen a lot of the Fairy Odd Parents and Spongebob Squarepants cosplays around xD
They're actually really neat and I love seeing them. I probably won't get into cartoon cosplays myself, but if I ever did, I'd definitely do Courage the Cowardly Dog if I was more creative~

LOVE cortoons *_*.

I've only done a few cartoon costumes thus far: Mercy Graves (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/92845/) from Superman the Animated Series, and Buttercup (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/148436/) from Powerpuff Girls. I have Jessica Rabbit ready to go too (just need some time to do a photoshoot).....although I guess she falls moreso into the "movie character" genre ^_^.

Used to watch? That's why YouTube became my friend.

Actually, all the cosplays I've done so far have been Western characters. I only got into anime very late in the game, when I was 17 I think believe it or not, so other than Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z and Flint the Time Detective (what?) I grew up with Western animation. So when I got into cosplay, I started from there. And even though I've got anime characters on it now, my long-ass list of cosplays half consists of Western characters.

So cartoons I've done Disney, obviously, and have a lot more of those planned. *_* I've also done Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls, and I'm planning to do Cheshire from the Teen Titans series. Someone suggested to me I do Shego from Kim Possible, and I would love to do a Lock, Shock, and Barrel group from Nightmare Before Christmas, but I have no cosplay friends who will do it with me. :(

Not sure if you count South Park as a cartoon but I plan on doing a variation of Kenny. Also the Redneck who shouts, "They Took Our Jobs!"

Otherwise, I'm planning on cosplaying Scruffy the Janitor from Futurama X3

Tigress
07-03-2010, 02:54 AM
My most popular cosplay is Rainbow Brite. I was quite literally held hostage at a gas station one afternoon because so many of the customers wanted pictures with me. (Silly Tigress. Stopping to get gas at the busiest gas station in town on a Saturday afternoon while in costume.)

I think I might have done more cartoon cosplays than anime cosplays, actually. XD

I've done Chip Skylark (obviously XD), Cosmo and Tootie (for a quick shoot) from Fairly OddParents. And I did Velma from Scooby Doo a while back, but I have no photos what so ever of it. XD

My sister's joined me in a couple of them. She's done Wanda, Trixie and Vicky (for a short 'shoot) from Fairly OddParents and Candace from Phineas & Ferb.

And we've planned more to come!

I wanna cosplay as Gir from Invader Zim in the lil puppy green suit, but I'd have NO idea how to even start such a project O__o,I love Gir !

Gir is like the impulsive side of me that friends and family get to see whenever I get ridiculously happy about things XD so I can't help like I gotta cosplay him ! LOL "WEENIES!"

My most recent cosplay was Daphne from Scooby Doo, and she's my fave cosplay yet. :) My friends and I are plotting a group, too... we just need someone to be my Fred, lol.

I have a few western cartoon cosplays planned, although I haven't started any of them (yet!). I'd love to do Rainbow Brite one day, or one of the Jem and the Holograms girls.

I LOVE cartoons, that was my life until I discovered Sailor Moon XD
I adore seeing cartoon cosplays, sometimes they're even better because at an anime convention, lots of people expect to see anime costumes and they get a huge sense of nostalgia and happines when they see a classic cartoon.

Samurai Jack would be pretty awesome to do... someday. XD
Hahah, but yeah, I used to watch lots of cartoons when I was a child, still do if I get the possibility and have time. Hahah, but yeah, would be fun to do someone from a western cartoon sometime.

You could probably use the same techniques that fursuitters use for that. And then you can come to InvaderCon in Atlanta next year and show it off!

<---- will be Tak for that (hopefully) :D

I wanna do Jessica Rabbit one day because 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' is my favorite movfie of all time. Dunno if it's considered a cartoon though.
If I did have to choose a cartoon though, I'd wanna do HIM from PowerPuff Girls or DeeDee from Dexter's Lab. Haha~ Maybe I will do DeeDee cuz it's fairly simple. c:

That would be awesome. XD I've been seriously contemplating a PPG group for a convention. I know it would be a great experience.

I think what has kept me away from cartoon costumes is that so many of the shows from my childhood would end up as a mascot costume or some mesh of a mecha. Which I have 0 knowledge on how to do either. At least PPG there's a human form to work with. >.> It'd be cool to do something like Gargoyles (and would HAVE to be Demona XD), but I wouldn't know where to begin. Nor have the confidence to pull off such a feat.

I cosplay Kim Possible, Kyle from South Park, Blossom from the Powerpuff Girls, Heather from Total Drama Island, Jen from 6Teen && Emma from Stoked.
I've always loved cosplaying from cartoons && have many more ideas in mind for the future. It's fun to see people dressed up as more than your typical "popular convention characters", which are seen in the hundreds XDD

At Megacon this year, my twin sister (Neko_Kaolla) and I were Susan and Mary Test from Johnny Test. That show doesn't NEARLY get enough cosplay love, IMHO, but we were surprised at how happy the costumes made people! XD

I'd like to chime in to say that seeing costumes of western animation is definitely exciting for me. Well, I mostly go to Anime Expo, so it's obviously not big on western cartoons, but I've seen a couple here and there (mostly Adventure Time <3)

My friends and I did an all-female Scooby Doo Mystery Gang cosplay for Halloween (and we're all high school seniors, so we looked kind of odd among all the little kids). STILL, being short means you can get candy :p

While I do complain a lot about "cartoons these days *shakefist*" I'm looking forward to seeing cosplays from somewhat newer shows like Teen Titans, Young Justice, Generator Rex, Ben 10, and Adventure Time.

I've cosplayed as Wanda from Fairly Odd Parents but it was at my college for halloween, not at a convention. I'd love to go cartoony for a convention but the ones I go to are anime cons and I always feel sort of off about going non anime to an anime con. I never know if I should do it because I don't think I've ever seen someone go cartoon to an anime con in my area.

Every trend needs someone to start it. :]

There should be no reason why you shouldn't be able to wear Cartoon cosplay to an anime con. There will always be Harry Potter characters, Jack Sparrows, and Avatar characters at anime cons, so why not?

You're absolutely right! I always think its a cool idea but I've never seen anyone else do it so it kind of makes me re-think. But I gotta find a cool cosplay that's not anime and try it out just for the sake of tryin it :)
