I'm wanting to cosplay Misa and I don't really have the money to buy an actual cosplay dress, though most of the Misa ones I have seen look terrible. Instead I found some good Misa looking dresses on Bodyline that I would prefer to use and they are also in my price range.

This dress looks more like Misa to me. But the lace looks sketchy(which is something that Bodyline does sometimes).

This dress looks a little less Misa, but I believe I would get better use out of it (I am into the Lolita fashion).
Which dress do you think would be best to get?

i've seen a lot of closet cosplay Misa's. You should think about that if you are tight on money. All you need is black, more black, maybe something with black lace and leggings. Just put your hair in picktails and carry around her deathnote.
Saying that, it doesn't specially matter, niether of those dresses are very Misa-ish but i think between the two i would say the first one. Get the one you want though because its your money. Hope i helped a little :)

Yes I agree, too many closet Misa's. x.x But I did go to a convention where I saw a Misa stand out from all of the others. Her costume was plain but she had a really nice wig and had those cool arm props. (like in these pictures http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1200/1467316803_28547692e5.jpg

You don't have to go full on with props and everything. (uwaa they look so cool, yet so hard to make. ;^;) So if you choose one of those dresses. (I think 1st is the best too) if you get a really nice wig your costume will turn out great. ^^ and like you said about the lolita, the dresses could come into use in the future. ( I love lolita I think it just looks so adorable~)

Good luck!

Like Mi Feng said, i think the ones that stick out the most are the ones that cosplay the version with her little arm things, honestly i would go ahead and get that costume im sure you could alter a thing or two, i remember a girl who did that she had everything and a really nice wig except the arm props and got much more attention than the closet misa girls

Everyone that does Misa usually does that version with the arm things, the school-looking uniform, or some crappy terrible version. And I wanted to change it around a little to make my own version of Misa that isn't crappy looking. And instead of a wig, I was thinking about dying my hair more blond, about Misa colored.

Plus, with a wig, you can put it on whenever you want to, and not have to worry about getting your hair dyed and cut for it or whatnot. Even if my hair looks just like them, I always go with a wig. It just has a sort of effect that makes it look better than your normal hair. If that makes any sense.

I don't have $30 to throw in on a wig I will only wear once.

As someone who uses their hair for all their cosplays, I say if you can style it correctly, go for it. If you plan on dying it and styling it, then go with a wig if you ever plan on wearing the costume again. Less hassle that way. But I get along fine without wigs. Anyway if you really want to get noticed as Misa, you better look damned good. I do remember her in a loli-ish outfit somewhere in the series. I'll try and find a picture later but it's there. You could alter the dress you get to make it more accurate. Just throwin that in there.

Not to sound like a total noob or anything but what is a closet Misa? I'm cosplaying as her for my first anime convention and I really want to look good and stand out.

I'm no expert either, but I believe a closet Misa, is someone who uses (I'm not sure how to put this) whatever fits, and isn't correct. Sorta like they use whatever's in their closets. I think that's the best way to put it.

And for the wig vs. real hair part, I use my real hair for some cosplays, and a wig for others. But I change my hair color often, so I just use a wig for the harder colors (Matt's red), and my real hair for simple colors that I know will turn out (Mikami and BB's black). Also, my hair is naturally simular to theirs, so that helps me, and plus, I have no problem going around with Mikami/BB hair, in fact, I do it to see how many stares I get (I did that with my wig too, and this one lady stared at me like I was the devil =)) =P
So, really, it depends on wheather (yes, I know I can't spell wheather properly T.T) you can stand having that hair style/color for however long you need it, and wheather or not a wig would be better. If you're gonna change it back after one or two conventions, or not keep up with managing roots, then you should go with a wig if you plan on cosplaying Misa for a while after that. But if you're willing to put in the effort, your real hair can work just as well. Hope I helped. ^.^
