I'm doing a Drifblim Gjinka, and I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out how to do part of the dress.

I don't own this picture, its the ref to the outfit I wan to do. I kinda figured I'd have to pull some magic, and I remember hearing this victorian style tro get the 'large' part, I honestly don't remember what it is called.

I was thinking that this would work

Not with metal, but maybe plastic and a thicker fabric or something of the likes to create the balloon look of the dress but keeping shape and movement.

Any help would be greatly apriciated.

I dont know if you really want to make this out on your own but at joanne fabric in the Simplicity patterns(I think its the one with the 3.99 patterns) there is a pattern for like 18th century undergarments and it looks almost exactly like your sketch. I dont know if that would help or not but it would say what would be the best materials to use.

Ha ha, thank you!

I saw a few things like this in the Lolita thread, but I'm not sure if I should ask or not.

you can acheive most of that shape with boning (the plastic kind) and a heavy interfacing.

What I think you're looking for is called petticoat (http://www.promdress4less.com/images/petticoat%200006.jpg).

NO wai! I was just about to post a tutorial on my youtube channel for making a hoop cage that looks exactly like this! It's not done yet but here are some pictures (I made my skirt flare out a little so your's wouldn't look like that...so don't bother looking at the shape of the bottom with the skirt over the hoop haha). For the plastic I used something called screen cap/tight cap and I'm pretty sure I found it in the "Hardware" aisle at Lowe's. It's like 4 bucks for a really long strip of it. I got mine in about 1.5" wide but there were skinnier and wider ones too. I just cut the plastic to size and made a casing for it out of some scrap fabric and overlapped the plastic to make a circle and duct taped it together and covered the tape with the casing. I also used twill tape for the vertical bars since I wanted mine to be collapsible. The overall shape is like a nice big rutabaga! XD

As you can see it's not even or sewn together yet XD

@Wolf; No dear, I know the anatomy of a dress, it is /not/ a peti coat I'm looking foor. I've done lolita before, I've made dresses. You don't really know what you're talking about, but you're on the right track!

@Dan; You should totally link me to that when you're done, you're gonna be an AWESOME HELP to make my dream come true~ <3333FOUR33333

how much of the screen cap/tight cap and twill did you needa buy? (an estimate will do)

p.s
brilliant idea!

I bought 5 pieces of it because I wanted to make 5 hoops, but it will vary depending on the type of hoop cage you want to make. I guess it's actually called "screen tight", I just looked it up haha

I don't know how soon I can finish editing the tutorial as I am last minute cram sewing >_<

Edit: I bought 7 yards of 1" twill tape, but again the amount will vary depending on how tall you are (I'm just about 5 feet tall), how big your hoops are and if you want to make your waistband out of twill tape also (I didn't make mine with the tape and I barely had enough left anyways)
