thinking about cosplaying as a gundam and i think the only way to make it look legit would be w/ one or two beam swords
was thinking of getting this (http://www.amazon.com/Shock-Battle-Saber-Gundam-RX-78-2/dp/B001ALZJB8) but it doesnt have a beam :(

so any ideas on making one that is better quality than the str wars kids toys?

Hey, I actually have used the build it yourself light saber kit from a star wars toy. Its from the clone wars. I've painted it white took off a lot of the extra lightsaber plastic. The nice thing about the toy is it allows me to change beam colors. Blue, red and green are usable but with some clever modding i feel you could get the red to display the pink we all know and love. Umm here is the link to what i've bought:

your better off trying t find this in stores. online ran out quick but i found it in a walmart.

I've been using this for about 3 years and it works decently, but it's nothing spectacular. Get a good size wooden dowel, something that you can grip in your hand comfortably. For the handle itself, I usually use duct tape wrapped around the dowel several times, then putting a layer of masking, or whichever tape you prefer, to give it that beam saber handle. Then for the actual beam saber part, just paint it the color you need it to be. It's relatively cheap, but you also need to make sure that you don't go swinging it around, and make sure it's fine with the convention guidelines.

Off the top of my head I think it is close to about 3-4 feet long. Closer to 4 tho.
