Hello, I'm in the process of getting ready for my next con and I would like some criticism on my costumes so I can make them better. Here are the 3 costumes i have pics for.

The lighting on the Saito iis awefully dark so I can't see the details but you got his personality down it seems.

Alucard looks good but the hat's brim seems on the thick side and it detracts from the rest of the costume. What did you make the brim of the hat out of?

Also, the coat isn't hanging all that well in the second picture. If you remake it add some bias tape in the shoulder and inside the hems of the long ways of the coat and along the bottom. That should give it more weight.

The 1st pic of Alucard looks great!

Other than those minor "problem" (ie: not much of one) it looks good.

And it's great to see an Alucard wearing boots! I hate it when people are in costume and ignore the appropreiate shoes.

I don't know the 3rd costume so I can't judge it.

I'd give better tips to improve but I'm still really new to sewing and it's tecniques.

From,
Joe

Hm. I believe that your Alucard would look a lot better if you picked a different fabric. The fabric you used is too flowly, and it looks like Alucard in a dress, not in a jacket.

..A dull red pleather ( or leather) would pretty much be awsome for Alucard -..providing you can afford such a thing.

But that is just my opinion.

Note that all of this is from the perspective of a costumer who's very, very picky about her own costumes. I can't comment on the other two, since I dont' really know the characters. Use or ignore at your own whim...this is only if you want to get your costume completely, utterly anally perfect.

I wouldn't use leather (or pleather) for Alucard's coat. I make leather coats, and to me that doesn't look or move like leather. Wool would be great, and it's what I'm using, a medium weight. I'd make the coat longer and fuller in the bottom for that anime swirl, particualrly since you're tall. If you can, that sort of coat looks best if it's tailored with pad stitches and hair canvas in the lapels and collar. Big @@s shoulder pads are good too. Basically, it's not a coat to skimp on the fabric for, and there should be enough substructure that it almost looks like there's an invisible man wearing it when it's on the hanger. Go to a very nice store that sells tailored coats, you can see what I mean. Not Armani, he's know for doing loose, lightly structured men's wear. You can also add a few lead washers to the hem, and that'll give the hem some swirl and weight. I agree, the brim of the hat looks odd and too thick. The hair needs to be darker, true black, and way more mussy with some bang-y bits hanging over the face. If you don't have fangs and red contacts (the picture isn't clear abou that) I think it would add the final touch to not just be wearing a costume but being the character...most actors agree that the better the costume, the easier it is to slip into character.

Oh, and this last is something in general I notice about cosplayers doing Alucard; they are hardly ever smiling! Way too grim. Ear to ear evil toothy smile, that's the way to go! Look at everyone like they're a steak dinner that's being fairly amusing before you eat it!

..Lol, I forgot all about Red wool. Yes, that would look extreamly good, but good luck finding a large amount of wool like that-....Not to mention the price for something like that. Talk about painful.

the first pic of saitou is freaky cool. and you did the hair. why is it that some people just neglect the hair aspects? and shoes? looks good to me, but the other two i can't judge since i don't know the characters too well.

Where'd you get alucards boots? I've looked all over to find them.

This is more about the Saito pose than the costume, but he's left handed or it (the Gatotsu) is a left handed technique. Can't remember which it is.

Your Alucard hat wrapping isn't quite right....take just some normal broad cloth and use buttons to hold it on in the front like him....don't forget to look at the small things their what count, also the boots arn't high enough
