View Full Version : Nero costume detailed list

So I'm in process of making Nero and there'll be a list of every part of his costume with any characteristic details like special shapes/colors written down. I'm making this to recieve critics and find any missing details so I won't miss out on anything. Pretty useful with some referencepictures from the actual ingame cinematics in 720p too. Bit large images though :P

Any other reference picture can be sorted out if you ask, have all the cinematics saved in high quality.

Rough height: ~175, pretty thin and toned.
Eyes: Blue-gray
Skin: Light. "Fire's bad for the complexion, I burn easily, never tan."
Hair: Silvery white, basically offwhite slightly towards gray.
Note: Lefthanded? Both his sword and his gun is used in left hand anyway.

"Blue Rose": (image (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6zvKjXtmIs/TIS50C8UM2I/AAAAAAAAAKI/reOgGRlpPsE/s1600/DevilMayCry4_DX10+2010-08-21+02-22-34-66.bmp))
- A large revolver (From knuckles to elbow in size (http://img821.imageshack.us/f/bluerosesizecomparison.png/))
- Two barrels, reasonably thick (almost an inch seemingly)
- Thick wooden handle
- Attached to his left leg, (leather holster?)
- Extra large revolver drum, atleast 2 inches/5cm
Red Queen: (image (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6zvKjXtmIs/TITJHqbHtsI/AAAAAAAAALA/yOeBxW2_TfI/s1600/red+queen+138%25+500%25.png))
- Red & gold decorations
- Handle is wrapped in ~2cm/ 0.8 inches red suede or leather. Seemingly suede though but any would work fine.
- About 85% of Nero's length, so something like 145cm long sword for a 180cm tall Nero. So roughly from the top of his head down to the start of his boots. (http://img823.imageshack.us/f/redqueencomparisonshot.png/)
- Exhaust pipes on the back, lit up red with smoke coming out of them when exceed is charging (sounds cool but hard to make I guess, but red LED's maybe? :P)

Tight black muscle shirt: with or without sleeves, they can't be seen ever anyway.
Red leather vest: ( image (http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj184/noramizien/neroDMC4.png)) with hoodie (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_V6zvKjXtmIs/TIS-OL5VH_I/AAAAAAAAAKg/0lcOAm9RlsU/s1600/vlcsnap-2010-08-19-12h45m43s232.png)(hoodie appears to not be smooth leather texture.. hard to see).
- Large decorative seams along the sides of each red leather strip
- Two-way zipper, black fabric, "teeth" in steel but a slight warm tone to it. Towards yellow/orange?
- Material is often said to be leather (http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj184/noramizien/neroDMC4.png) but no, it's not. It's actually denim seemingly. Marine blue denim? It's often almost pitch black with gray highlights but retains a blue tone in most scenes. Marine Blue (http://www.stoffochstil.se/ImageRoot/4/6/0/460068/460068_l.jpg) and Black Stone Wash (http://www.stoffochstil.se/ImageRoot/4/0/0/400098/400098_l.jpg) denim would probably both appear authentic, but a blue tone would be to prefer.
- Lined with a smooth deep red fabric, more towards purple than orange (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6zvKjXtmIs/TITBpZPrw7I/AAAAAAAAAKw/3u6gj_FvtNI/s1600/vlcsnap-2010-08-26-01h02m02s101.png). Looks like a satin-like lining fabric but definately not highly reflective.
- Buttons are small, round and with a raised rose pattern on it. Can be seen on some of the above pictures.
- The trenchcoat cannot be closed in the front as it's not wide enough, the buttons are therefore simply decorations and are useless.
- Seemingly two beltfasteners designed to keep the trenchcoat together (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6zvKjXtmIs/TITE0SjpkjI/AAAAAAAAAK4/JGAAcaofEC8/s1600/vlcsnap-2010-08-26-01h04m20s205.png), sticking out of either side of it, just a guess though as it's actually never fastened.. It's not linked to the harness either, as they are moving freely with the trenchcoat.
- Brown leather harness mounted over the trenchcoat to hold the sword up, not that the sword is ever actually fastened to it, more like floating on it. Strong industry magnets? Yes please.
- Standard marine blue jeans, slightly worn (grayish highlights)
- Thick brown leather belts around both legs, one for a holster for the revolver and the other... for looks it seems. Visible on several of the pictures already linked. These also fasten to secure the foot in the boot.
Boots: (image (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_V6zvKjXtmIs/TIS6NGGDZdI/AAAAAAAAAKY/hEjO5iQ0Nm4/s1600/vlcsnap-2010-08-19-12h52m56s212.png))
- Several belts, not going all the way around the boots though.

Large belt-buckle, rose decoration (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_V6zvKjXtmIs/TITE0SjpkjI/AAAAAAAAAK4/JGAAcaofEC8/s1600/vlcsnap-2010-08-26-01h04m20s205.png)
Two rings (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_V6zvKjXtmIs/TIS57ELoxfI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/Z4xFw2pcbuc/s1600/610px-Close-up_of_Nero_%27s_Rings.png)

Some additions, since I'm planning out Nero myself. Very nice list, by the way.

Nero IS left handed, Johnny confirmed this as why he had to learn to fight left handed. Also, the muscle shirt is sleeveless, as referenced by the artwork, his pants are actually blue jeans, and the coat is a blue/purple denim. The idea in his colors is that he's wearing the red vest to represent Dante, Blue pants to represent Vergil, and his coat is purplish to represent Sparda. If you also look very closely at the Devil Bringer on the top, you'll notice the light coming out the top is actually a bright lilac purple, not blue. So even the Bringer shows all three colors of the Sparda boys; Red, blue and purple.

And if I may, a slight correction on your sizing calculations. Dante and Vergil have been given heights around 6'1" to 6'3"(Reubon Langdon's actual height, IIRC, is 6'1"), and Dante is shown to be significantly taller than Nero. That puts Nero's height at around 5'8" to 5'10", or around 170 cm to 175 cm, give or take, which is about how tall Johnny Bosch is. He's not that tall really, and in the artwork with his coat off, he's not all that thin, but lean and very well toned. I'll look through my reference collection and find some of the artbook pages that show what he looks like without the coat and hoodie-vest.

References of that muscle shirt would be amazing, as I've never actually seen anything but where the vest opens at the neck.

The pants being marine blue denim, i'll give you that. The devilbringers colors are also representing all three, especially with the red crossing with blue giving that last purple color.

But the coat never hits purple ingame, as far as I have seen. It's really dark, often borderline black but mostly dark blue, with grayish worn out highlights. But look at the scenes where it's actually daylight/lit up:

The varied references are a bit confusing. But it's always like that :P

But normally it's more like this:
With both pants and trenchcoat having a typically dark but blue tone.

But regarding the lore behind his choice of clothes, can I find it anywhere? Would be horrible to miss out on something as important as that :(

the lore behind his outfit is based on comments made by the development team that Nero in character personality and style was a mixture of the Sparda Twins. As well, at least one model render shows his coat with a distinct purple tint, as well, but it is really more displayed in the light coming out of the top of the Bringer. All that is a few of the reasons for the theory that Nero is infact Sparda reincarnated, in addition to the fact his story seems to mirror a lot of what we know about Dante and Vergil's father.

Very good reference page from the artbook, shows his undershirt and the sleeveless red hoody-vest really well, as well as the distinctly purple coloration their colored his coat with.

Ye a very good reference picture for the vest. Some things in the original concept art was changed before the release of the game it would seem. The shape of the sword and the color of the trenchcoat/pants was changed seemingly. Also the face was made slightly more bishounen xD

Also it seems that the mark between the shoulderblades of the trenchcoat was removed and added to the top of the coats sleeves instead.

As I'll be using the ingame cinematics as concept art as opposed to the original concept, I'll skip the purple color I guess.. Denim in purple is kinda hard to find anyway
