Since there has been much talk about a cosplayer picnic in the Atlanta area, lets have one!

Date: October 25th
Time: 2 pm
Place: Piedmont Park, Atlanta Ga

Hopefully this weekend I can begin scouting out a few places to have it. Let me know if anyone knows of a good place!

Olympic Park? I know it's one of the most obvious places.. but it's so pretty. And big/open..

It would be so cool if we could have a Halloween party like JACO is =(!!!

Also liked the sound of Barnsley Gardens, but if they charge more people probably would show up somewhere free.

Very true. They used to not charge, only for parking, but now I have heard otherwise. I would say yes to the Olympic Park, however, I don't want to be downtown like that in costume. I would not feel safe.

Yeah the downtown area is a little dangerous, but if we're in one BIG group.. I don't think there is too much to worry about. I think we'll get weird stares most of all.. but has anyone found out if the B. Gardens charge or not? ANd what about some of the other parks in the Metro-Atl. area?

And I kick myself, I really do. I wanted to get this together last month (on the 13th) with maybe GA Tech's Anime club http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/anime/index.htm
because, as you all know, being indoors is waaaay better then being outdoors. I wouldn't go in costume to that park myself either. Tech would be the best possible place- hotels near by (for people who need them), a anime club and it's in da ATL. Maybe we should get in contact with them...? Oh, I feel so stupid for being so lazy...=|

Actually the picnics are usually to get outdoor shots of costumes - as get plenty of indoor shots at conventions. Probably will be in afternoon running to early evening, and people will then drive home/go to friend's house that night.

This is so not being done in conjunction w/Tech's anime club. If there are members of their club who want to join us, it will be of their own accord.

Edit: I am makeing an executive decision on this one. The shoot will be at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens starting at 2 pm. Currently, the admission is $10 a person, however, I am trying to speak with them to see if we can't negotiate a group rate or something along those lines. I am sorry that they charge, however this will give us a safe, picturesque environment in which to take pictures in. If you would like to see what the Botanical Gardens offers you can access their website at www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org

Looking at their website, looks like they close at 5 - so might want to start a little earlier.

Several of the locations look good

Found some larger pics on other sites

That second offsite link has one pic of a butterfly gate, maybe in the kids garden - I need to find that as depending on height could possibly work in a pic.

I finally got an e-mail back from the gardens. They just can't seem to get into their heads that Adults would be costuming - they keep trying to invite us to the children's Goblins in the Gardens event.

Now, if I can just get them to waive the $100 non-professional photography fee we would be better off.

I just can't seem to find any really NICE green space in the Atlanta area to have this at!

Ouch, that kinda puts a damper on things

Uh, yeah, and I have yet to hear back from Barnsley Gardens. I guess the best place we could have it is Centennial Park, however, there isn't much there in way of backgrounds. I just wish there were more public gardens in Atlanta! Eveything around her charges anymore!

Hey, does anyone know anything about Piedmont park? I have never been there, and I wonder if we can do it there?

Hikaruchan

Nope, since not a native don't know the parks.

Since the alabama picnic was in a state park, I was looking at some Georgia ones just as an alternative possibility if things cann't be worked out w the gardens.

There are a good number of them a little north of Atlanta.

Red Top Mountain one looked like a possible workable one, except for ATL people w/o transportation.

Red top Mountain is nice, but it is all woods. Not the best place to take pictures. Somone here at the office just suggested Piedmont Park. It butts up to the Botanical gardens and has some pretty places to take pictures at. Hopefully I can scout it out on Saturday, so I think there would be a good place.

Found this site about it
http://www.pps.org/gps/one?public_place_id=596#

Parts of it look good in the slideshow pics, hopefully can find spots w not a lot of people around. Would need to know a gathering spot, for clueless out of towners like me.

Really sorry about the double post, however I felt this needed it's own. I put a message up on the AWA boards, since this is kinda a local thing. This way we can have lots of cosplayers there!

Since there is such a lack in interest at this point, I think we would be best just to cancel and plan for another time.

Hey, I'm just wondering if the cosplay shoot for Piedmont Park is still going? I literally just found out about it a few days ago and can't go because of work; but I was wondering if there would be another cosplay event like this in Atlanta soon?

Hey, is this still going on? I'd be glad to come, armed with costumes and megapixels ;)

Any possible themes, or just generalness?

Last I heard is that it was a no go back over the summer. I just do not think we have enough intrest locally.

I work around the atlanta area and I love manga and anima. I'm just now starting to make my own costume. I would love to have a get together some time with a lot of people maybe meet some people who could help with me starting out. So if its to late to have the one in October then why don't we make one for later this year or around the first of next year.:reverse:

I think this thread is long dead, judging by the 2004 posting dates, so you might want to check out the "Member Events and Gatherings" section or http://peachstatecosplay.org/
