As you can see, his sword just seems to hang freely on his back. I was wondering what techniques other people used to help keep their swords on (I really don't want to have to lug my sword around by hand the whole con xD)

Thanks ^-^

What's the sword made out of? If it's something light, you could conceivably attach it to your back with super magnets. I mean, it is possible, though probably not the best suggestion. Unless you're made out of metal and just have random magnetic things flying at you and sticking to you awkwardly, then it's not like one more thing will hurt. Anyway.

The tutorial I am using makes the sword out of several layers of thin plastic, craft foam, crayola model magic, and a pvc pipe. Its not done, so I cant estimate the weight. I could possibly sew magnet pockets into the jacket?
lol I'm not made of metal, fortunately, so I don't think I need to worry about things flying at me.
My only concern is that, since the sword is made of light materials, I'd worry that trying to pull it off of me would damage the sword if the magnetic pull is too strong.

The tutorial you mentioned sounds like a great process, I've been looking for some good sword making tutorials, which one are you looking at?

As for the ideas of magnets, that sounds pretty smart. I don't know much about magnets though, so I would guess that maybe you could find a ones with lighter attractions so if you did remove the sword from your back, it wouldn't break anything.
But again, I don't know much of anything on magnets.
Maybe some well placed velcro would work too.

Dear This thread,

See this thread: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=186023

From personal experience, magnets work. I get mine from www.unitednuclear.com
The key is getting SUPER STRONG magnets, because of the amount of crap that will be between the two (coat, shirt, vest, whatever you cover your sword with, etc.), while keeping your sword as light as possible. Weight wouldn't be an issue with the strength of the magnets I use, but combining something heavy while placing about 1/4" worth of material between the two magnets will dramatically reduce their power.
