I've been searching around a bit, and haven't been able to find information on Ed's black jacket. So I have composed 3 questions:
1.What material is best for the black main sections, and the white edge sections?
2.Where can I find a pattern? (I found one, but I didn't understand what half the pieces were for)
3.Where can I find the metal clasp-thingy, the piece near the collar? Or how could I make it?
If you have any close up reference jackets, I'd like to see. Thanks for your time!

Any sort of black matte fabric would be fine for the main bits. Probably black woven cotton, which will usually be cheap too. The edging, try to find some white bias tape. You'll have to look at more references in order to figure out what width you need - a good way is to pause the anime at a point that showcases the jacket.
For the clasp, you could make it out of craft foam. But if you wanted it to be real metal, you could try crafting stores, or see if any hardware stores sell something that could be modified into it.

As for the pattern...it's a pretty simple jacket-type thing, you could probably find a pattern for something like it at any fabric store. They ARE confusing at first, lol. But most of them come with instructions that are at least somewhat helpful. You might want to try making a rough copy of it out of cheap fabric so that you'll have a better understanding when you make the final thing.

Thanks greatly for posting! Now I have a better idea on what to use; except where would I get white bias tape? Would it be sold in fabric stores?
As for the clasp, I don't really want to use craft foam since I never worked with it and I'm afraid of it snapping or something. I'd either use real metal or a thick piece of stiff silver fabric material (Not sure what kind though). For the attachment, would it be best to use those snap in type buttons, like the ones in most children's coats?
If I'm not successful with the clasp, should I use a white zipper which would be hidden behind the white bias tape?

Yes, bias tape should be sold in most fabric stores.
Another thing that could work for the clasp is if you cut it out of a plastic bottle and painted it - durable but still cheap. Unless you can find a way to make it from metal, of course. The snaps would work to hold it on, I'm pretty sure. If you wanted to make the clasp only decorative, you could also use hooks behind it to actually hold the jacket closed.
A zipper might look good but it would make the accuracy of the costume go down (Its up to you if that matters or not)

Alright, I'll try using a sheet of metal and connecting the buttons. Hopefully it'll look nice.
And hopefully my local fabric stores such as Fabric Land would have the buttons I'm looking for. Thanks a lot for your help.
