I think it's an awesome idea. XD My friend and I live in Escondido and there's no where to go around here, so we were going to head to San Diego anyways. ^_^ But a cosplay gathering would make it 10X more fun.

This idea sounds great. I live in Scripps Ranch and will be working in Mira Mesa during the day on Halloween. The night is free however. There are a ton of nice parks for an outdoor gathering in the Scripps and Mira Mesa area. The ones in Scripps would have to be vacated at 10pm though, the yuppies hate it when people have a night life.

I have no idea about good locations in other parts of SD though. We could always have a restaraunt or movie theatre gathering. Maybe both.

When and Where?
*L* Unfortunately I'm worknig most of the day on Friday (as if that will stop me from dressing up;)) And that night I'm going to a Class halloween get together. Were you planning on doing it RIGHT on halloween or on the weekend since it falls on a Friday. I'm just curious:)

I would love to help you gather up more people count me in!

Saturday I've already got another halloween gathering to go to, so friday is probably best for me. It is a small casual kinda party, but I could ask the hostess if she is ok with a few extra guests. However, I think if we want to have a cosplay party, we should probably make it an event unto itself. Friday I will be in costume at work from 11am to 7pm, but that still leaves anoth 11 hours of night with which to have fun. Maybe we could have both a friday and saturday gathering to accomodate more people's schedules.

Cindy- I was thinking on Halloween itself cuz I hafta be at work on the weekend as always ><;;;. It'd be so awesome tho if you could come!

Oh cool. There are a group of us that really want to do something halloween until 11pm when we are going to go to the Whaley House and graveyard tour in San Diego.

I'm briniging Wayne #2 (Squall Wayne), Krispy Mike (Neo), Averi and a few others down to San Diego for the day.

I definately don't want to impose, but we are in search for SOMETHING to do Halloween until the Whaley House thingie.

how bout babolapark, it's nice and scary on halloween and we can hit the trail of terror while we are at it. ^^

Crazy Bunta
10-12-2003, 10:19 PM
Yeah I was thinking about something like Balboa Park and Old Town area as well.

Somewhere where we can all hang out, get some dinner and have fun, instead of just a 5 minute: hello, nice to see you, nice costume and then jet.

LordofWickd4est
10-13-2003, 12:48 AM
Balboa park has good atmosphere, but no good food. It can be a place to frolic after dinner. Regarding food we should probably pick a restaraunt to make reservations with and meet at. Having food and drinks would be a great way to start the night. After that, head out for spooky fun. Still have to work out everybodies schedules as well. If the gathering is at Balboa Park, I'll need to carpool with somebody. I will compensate them for gas. The bus that goes to my neighborhood stops running at 7:30:(

isn't that just a tad to fancy..how bout a place liek burger king..it's easier on everyone's wallet.

LordofWickd4est
10-13-2003, 01:56 AM
There are plenty of affordable sit down places. Chili's, On The Border, Islands, etc. A entree at these locations will run from $5.99 to $12.99 on average. An average fast food meal is around 5 bucks anyway, so why not go for the better meal. If tip is an issue, I can throw in extra for that. I believe servers should be tipped well anyway. I just think that a special occassion should have a quality meal. That and I gave up fast food hamburgers over a year ago when I decided to get in shape. It works too. I lost 20lbs in two weeks just because I removed them from my diet. I seriously can't even take the smell of them anymore.

This is still just my opinion though. There are several other people we need to hear from before a plan can be made.

im not a san diego native...would balboa park be anywhere near balboa beach?

Crazy Bunta
10-13-2003, 04:40 AM
Well Sana-Chan did a really good gathering for Comic-Con for lunch. Maybe she can pick a good place to eat, (No Oscar's this time, since I don't feel like getting food poisoning or whatever they got going on right now. LOL).

Balboa is not the best place to eat, (to be honest I can't think of anywhere I would eat there) but I went to some awesome Mexican restaraunt in Old Town, (best I've ever had). I can't remember ther name but it's something Cafe. Only problem is that it's $10 a plate. Plus it will be very crowded due to the huge crowds for the Whaley House across teh street.

But yeah, hopefully eveyone agrees that a nice dinner gathering first then head off to wherever, (which sounds like possibly Balboa Park).

It sounds like my little crew is definate. Plus we might bring some more cosplayers. We'll see.

LordofWickd4est
10-13-2003, 10:31 PM
I like the sound of that plan. Now we just need to work out schedules.

If anybody wants to eat in the Mira Mesa area(there are several good restaraunts right off the 15), I can take care of all the logistics for that. I get off work at 7:00, and could set up reservations from pretty much 7:15 on. I would need to know number of people, and I can take care of it ony my way to work that morning. Assuming about one an hour and a half for the meal, that leaves around 2 hours for Balboa Park before the Whaley House thing.

LordofWickd4est

I know, I'm just presenting an option. More suggestions from everybody means a nice list of ideas to choose from. That and each person is probably more familiar with a different part of San Diego, so I'm covering easy access places in my area.

I assume very very busy. School + job + making costumes.

I'm sure once she comes up with something and has some time we'll hear from her. We still have a little time for planning and such. No matter what though, I gotta leave at around 10pm-10:30pm cause I promised my friends I would take them to the Whaley House. :(

That would be easy money if I didn't have to go to work the next day. I'd just chill by the kitchen and smell the phantom apple pie(which is what I smelled when I went there on a 4th grade field trip.) Yummy. :)

Actually it wa a contest put on by a local San Diego radio station. They had 5 people try to stay the night in that house. They brought sleeping bags and whoever lasted the longest won. From what I was told, nobody lasted longer than 4am.

I can't do it though. I pick up supernatural stuff like a magnet and it scares the bejesus out of me! Only reason I'm going is to prove that the place is haunted. Last time I went was a very unfortunately memorable experience and I'll leave it at that, (you wouldn't believe me if I told you).

Well I still have to take some cosplayer friends to the Whaley House and the line is about a 45 minute to an hour wait, and the house closes around midnight, so I have to be there at around 10-10:30pm if we expect to get in.

I'm sure Sana-Chan's gathering will start around 7-8pm which gives my little group about 2 hours to do some type of dinner and gathering with her. I have no clue if everyone wants to tag along to the Whaley House, but of course everyone is welcome to come. It costs like $11 a person to get in on Halloween night and you can stay in the house for up to an hour before you must leave. I did it last year and it was very crowded. Each room has a person watching over it and explaining the signifigance of the area. Hopefully that explains a little more for anyone that actually wanted to go. Anyone that does go to the Whaley House on Halloween should read up on it first, (it makes the experience more freeky). http://www.viewzone.com/whaleyhouse.html

That would be easy money if I didn't have to go to work the next day. I'd just chill by the kitchen and smell the phantom apple pie(which is what I smelled when I went there on a 4th grade field trip.) Yummy. :)

Last time I went I smelled the cigar so strong that it made me cough and the perfume of Mrs. Whaley that was also overly strong. Both were in the backyard. The cigar smell was under the staircase and the perfume smell was on the side of the house near the courthouse. What is up with that place and smells. Also when I went on Halloween you could smell the cigar very strong at the top of the staircase.

Try Fatal Frame, then tell me if you get scared! No game has ever scared me up until that! I had the entire room at Ani-Magic scared so bad they had nightmares for a week. LOL

Anyhow. I'll just wait and see what Sana-Chan has going on for halloween. I'm sure there are alot of San Diego cosplayers that want to get together for halloween.

LordofWickd4est
10-17-2003, 01:40 AM
Is Fatal Frame really a good game, or is it just good once for the scare value?

Silent Hill has a wonderfully creepy mood, but half of that is recognizing the occult references. Not scary though.

As for Halloween, we have two weeks. After this weekend, things need to start happening. The people who have busy schedules will need plenty of time to coordinate and adjust schedules.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I've seen your schedule before and I know how busy you have to be. I bet you haven't even had time to work on your Jack costume, either.

Well I don't want to jump in the driver's seat with this thing because it's your idea and gathering. I also have no idea how far away everyone is willing to drive or anything like that. Plus I don't know much around the Balboa area anymore. It sounds like everyone wants to meet for dinner around 7pm and then go to the haunted trails in balboa followed by a 10pm Whaley House gathering. This is just what I gathered from everyone in this thread.

I guess first idea is to find a place to meet for dinner. No McDonald's or fast food please. It just isn't as much fun for a social gathering. All I am really familiar with are all the restaraunts in Convoy area, but they are awful for meetings, unless someone wants to meet at like a Hometown Buffet or something along those lines, (soup plantation, an all you can eat place like VIP, etc.). That way everyone can pay seperate and won't have to worry about splitting the bill in the end. Plus Sarah held her birthday at one during Ani-Magic and it was a really good choice.

I guess this is the part where everyone starts chipping in ideas. This is still Sana-Chan's gathering, but we can help since she's bogged down with too much at the moment.

Any votes or other ideas on halloween yet? This plan really needs to start coming together. We know some people's schedules, and that the whaley house starts around 10. That is all though. We need a location for food, and what to do unitl the Whaley house thing. Also, we need alternate entertainment for anybody who may not want to do the Whaley House thing. Halloween is 10 days away.

Unfortunately, there is no way I can get Halloween off. I work from 11am-7pm. I work in Mira Mesa, one block off highway 15. With dinner between 7 and 7:30, the only way I'd be able to make it would be in Mira Mesa. Outside of that, I would need to carpool with someone(I can pay for gas) , but that will make that person late. Perhaps those that have Halloween off can start earlier, then eat in Mira Mesa, then go back to doing whatever. Any thoughts on this?

Also, anybody that is willing to offer a carpool, pm me and let me know what you want.

I'd need a ride too...^^' I live in lakeside...Oh well, hmmm...since I've got halloween DAY off as well, I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to do during the day hmm...I think In the morning I'll go to grossmont college and show off my new costume, then I'll go to boomers and strut my stuff there, then go over to home depot ('cause my mom works there) and say hi to people and thank them for helping me with stuuf for my sword. then I'll come home, call kokirichild (see if it's not to late to still go to that party...) then I don't know what from there...maybe go visit Teea...FREE UNLIMITED PIXI STICKS!!! :D

I was going to say Children's Park right across from the convention center... but it's kinda hard to find parking on a friday.

Balboa Park might be nice... depending on which part. We don't want get caught on the haunted trail thingy though. So parking THERE would be a bust too. Hmmmmm...

Maybe the park across from Mira Mesa High School over on Mira Mesa Blvd? Since some people are coming from up north... that might be an nice "halfway point." The worse thing we'd have to deal with are overzealous Trick or Treaters. Does anyone have any suggestions? There are other "out of the way" parks in Mira Mesa too, but since it's a group, we'd probably want to make it as easy as possible.

If its Food... hmmm.... I'm thinking there's plenty of places in the Mira Mesa area (if we chose to go there) My Suggestion... Fuddruckers! They can accomodate larger groups than a resturant.

Maybe Crazy Bunta has some suggestions.

Manda

OH! I hope this comes together...that would give me something to do on Halloween. Oh, but then I have to be in Escondido the next morning...it'd suck to drive down for Halloween, drive back to Irvine and then drive down again and drive back. It'd be nice if someone'd let me crash at their house XD Humm...maybe I can crash in my car in a parking lot..

Anywho, good luck on planning this our, guys. T-8 days and counting.

Allright, looks like the cogs are starting to move. I like the Mira Mesa high school idea, since I can get there quickly, even if I go on foot. I also recommend the park behind Hage elementary school 2 blocks down Westview Parkway from Mira Mesa blvd. It is a quiet and safe park. Not to mention people don't care what time of the night you are there. I like the Fuddruckers idea. On the Border would be my other recommended place to eat in Mira Mesa. If either of those are decided on, I'll call them and make reservations once we have a head count. I'm just up the street from Fuddruckers, and right across the street from On the Border. I could take the bus to wherever else we might meet, but since I get off work at 7pm, it would take way too long. For those that have the day off though, i can get bus travel info to Mira Mesa if you give me a street name to give to the phone service people. The only problem there is local buses in San Diego stop running rather early, so that would leave you stranded unless we come up with way to get people home. For those that need to crash, I can probably accomodate a few people at my place, but I have to be to work at noon the next day, so you have to be ready to leave before then. I might be able to get some off time for saturday, but I can't guarantee that yet.

Manda:if you need to be in Escondito, I can probably provide the closest crash spot. Scripps Ranch is 10-15 min south of Escondito. I need to know soon though, I have to make sleeping accomodations. I do have plenty of room though.

AgentSakur9
10-24-2003, 12:00 PM
Cool we have some agreement here. HA HA HA. Ok I know where this other park is and I like it too. The only problem is that we have people who are unfamiliar with the Mira Mesa. I chose one across the street from the High School because itís a major landmark and we can see the park from Mira Mesa Blvd (and Mira Mesa Blvd is a major street and is accessible from the I805 and I15.) We should try to make this as easy as possible. J

Fuddruckers seems like a better idea only because we wonít really know how many people are going to show up. We wonít have to worry about reservations and what not. Thatís all. I dunno. What do you all think? This is as much your gathering than anything else. Iím just here to help.

As far as timeÖ I am going to suggest sometime between 6-7pm that should allow ample time for people to show up. Iíll be on hand to take some pictures for people who want em taken. Of course anyone who want high res copies will get em (Not Copyrighted Even LOL.)

As you can see, I'd think having this gathering is a good idea and we San Diegans should represent Yo.

I'll ask my boss if I can close early, so I won't be late to the gathering.

Crazy Bunta
10-25-2003, 12:55 PM
Sorry I'm jumping back into this so late. Been busy trying to help a friend, plus I have a party tonight that I've been struggling to get a costume together for.

OK, I have no idea how many people are willing to come as far North or South as Mira Mesa....but it sounds like a good idea. I'll bring a big car that can fit 4 passengers very comfortably for anyone that needs to carpool from Mira Mesa down south.
The Haunted Trails will be extrememly crowded that night...as well as Frightmare and the Haunted Hotel. So we still need something solid for after the dinner. :) Wish that we had someone's house to meet at and just have a party with music and movies playing along with drinks and snacks. My place is too small, but I would be willing to offer it as a last alternative. Agent Sakur9, has seen how small my place is. But I do have several game machines, as well as a Neo Geo arcade cabinet, tons of DVDs and much more to entertain everyone. Only thing is that I HAVE to be at the Whaley House at 10pm. :( It's a promise I made that I would take all of my friends there. So, it might be a complete waste of time, since We won't be done with dinner until around 8:30-9pm.

Here is what sounds definate:

Dinner gathering in costume at Fudrucker's on Mira Mesa Blvd. at 7:30pm, (sounds like a few people get off of work at 7pm and need time to get into costume and get ready).

After dinner we go and hang out for some event...Haunted Trails, Frightmare, Haunted Hotel or a house party.

10pm I'm doing a Whaley House and graveyard tour. Since I have alot of history and knowledge of the Whaley House, I can make the experience more entertaining. I can also bring up to 4 other people if they want to just carpool.

After the Whaley House it will be around midnight and I'm sure everyone has work or school in the morning and would like to get back home, so it will probably end the night.

I've been given permission to close at 6 instead of 7. As long as that stays, I'll be able to get to dinner earlier.

I might be able to play host at my place, but I can't have a lot of people. I've got plenty of video games and anime. We would have to control the noise level though, since I live with my dad. I don't have snacks, so we may need to hit a grocery store.

I do have drinks and can play bartender(since I'm doing this for a party on saturday night), but I can't let people leave until they are sober.

Last rule would be do not touch any of the multitude of martial arts toys. I do not have a need for locked cabinets, but I don't want to worry about injuries.

I'll need some quick feedback on this as well.

Hey everyone. By now you've heard that fires have taken over our tranquil city of San Diego. For now, we should play it by ear... a lot can happen between now and Friday. Lets remain optimistic and plan on still having our get together.

Here's what it looks like. I doubt meeting at the park for photos will happen because it will be a wee bit too dark around 7ish. So let's get our grub on! woo hoo!

ok. Fuddruckers is the place. Here's the Addy:

8285 Mira Mesa Blvd.
San Diego, CA 92126 US
858-693-3916

Plan to be there between 7:00-7:30. I should be there a little earlier than that to reserve tables, so if you want to show up a little earlier, that's cool. I'll try to get a big one in the back. Hopefully Crazy Bunta will be there to help me hold down them tables. LOL.

If we could, try to confirm on this thread whether or not you're going to make it by Wednesday 10.29.03.

Again we're being optimistic that everything will work out by Friday. I will do the best I can to update you all if plans will change. Make sure to stay informed about the happenings in our fair city.

Ok, back online. They just let me back into Scripps, and I still have a house. Yay! Anyway, I'm still on for Friday night.

I just got back from Fudrucker's and it seems like a pretty good place to gather. They have 3 long tables that can fit 20 people which would work fine for a gathering, plus everyone can pay at the register when they walk in, don't have to worry about tips and splitting the bill.

Still any idea where to go after Fudrucker's? Just start pitching in ideas. I think in order to save money, we should find a place to just relax and have fun for a while.

I might ahve to pick up some people, so I don't want to bring them too early. I'll see what happens though.

Kinda why I picked the place! I rule! Anywho... things are looking like they're calming down a bit. (ARGHHH I have to go work?!)

OK... keep checking here for further updates...

oh yeah! if you wanna scope out the menu follow this link:

http://www.fuddruckers.com/menu.html

they have other stuff like deserts and a bakery that isn't listed on that menu. try their cherry pie... mmmm it's yummy!

oh yeah!

awww... it'd be the bomb if you could make it. if not I'm sure Sana'll inspire us to get together again. I mean we don't need a holiday just to hang out right? :)

i have Ayu's Evolution stuck in my head.... arghhhh! (I like the song too)

If everything goes as planned, I should be off work at 6 rather than 7. So, I should be able to get there by 6:30 and help you reserve the tables. Look for the guy in black with a lightsaber, it should be me.

Yes, Agent Sakur9 and myself were at Oscar's last night trying to plan this out some more. But it looks like we might have some people just show up. At this point I believe we have 7 people. Wayne and Mike are stuck up in La because of work now...I dunno about KT and Bri, but I can give them a lift if they want to come.

Same here. have not eaten all day, (except a few red vines). I lost my coatume from when I packed up from the fire, so I'm still trying to find it. I will be at the party though. Especially since I am responsible for driving to the Whaley house tonight. Muwahahahaha.

Okay FIRST OF ALL. You do not in a million zillion years revive a year-old thread FOR A YUGIOH WEBSITE REFERRAL. Not to mention that there is a thread for a gathering for THIS YEAR. http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=43589

kthxbye.
