So my goal is to get this done by sakura con 2011 (april). she looks like this:

i won't be making the thing she's standing on, but i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the 1.armwarmers (they fade from black to clear) and 2.the (what i have come to call) jetpacks on her back.

I have some ideas, but as i have never made anything like this, i'm a bit lost as to what would be the best way to tackle this. other than those 2 i think i can figure out everything else, but any and all suggestions are welcome ^_^

Oooh, glad you're doing this version n_n I <3 this version...
It doesn't fade a whole lot, so you could *try* and look around for some translucent white fabric, since I think completely see-through fabric is an impossible wish... when doing the arm warmers, do one half at a time and sew the black fabric on top of the clear... then get some black fabric paint and thin it down, and *carefully* blend the two fabrics together.

As for the jetpacks, maybe do a base with craft foam or a wire frame and cover with craft foam? Or attempt to carve out of styrofoam, then cover with a light clay like paperclay... I can't find many good pictures of it so I can't give many suggestions, sorry :c

With the attachment arms from the body-harness to the "jetpack", it looks like it's designed to articulate, reminds me of surgical light support arms:

I would suspect that would be the real danger area. And by that I mean- expect to have issues due to the cantilever effect. Is there any specific part of it you would like advice on?

I also have plans to do this one and the jetpacks are definitely the biggest problems.

I can foresee the packs will be heavy and how to support that will be tricky.

Most who do that cosplay, usually sport ONE pack on their left/right side.

lollydove - thanks for the advice on the glove/armwarmers! ^^

ubercaledor - the largest and most intricate prop i've ever made was A.B.A's key from guilty gear, so i think what is giving me trouble is what to make the 'jet packs' out of so that they will not only look good, but not fall off/apart, and what the best way to attatch them to a harness would be.

teacup.hime - yeah, i don't want to do that, my goal is to have it as close as correct as possible. and good luck to you too!!
