View Full Version : Post your Original Character cosplays!

12-06-2010, 10:46 AM

I've always liked to see the original characters people come up with and thus I created this thread so it would be easier to find everyone who've done an OC or perhaps ten!
The point of this thread would be to link to your OC's here, probably give out a little info about your experiences with said costume and just talk about in progress OC's and so forth. :)

I've recently created my first OC myself. I had a blast with my friend the last weekend!
We went out in the cold (brrrr... winter in Finland brr...) to snap some pics~
I'll certainly do more OC's in the future, it was so much fun! :bigtu:

Okey, sorry if a thread like this exists...

Well, I don't really do original characters so much as original designs. I don't really have a backstory to go with them, just a concept and some clothes.

1898 Hogwarts uniform. (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/246584/) Worn at the past two Dragon Cons, always goes over well.

1866 ball gown/ (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/242560/) Worn at D*C 09, very fun, though unwieldy to wear. Currently retired because it's far below what my standards are now and could have been done better :/

steampunk jedi (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/304374/)

Lenore (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/279290/) Technically based on Edgar Allen Poe poems, but I consider it to be in the same category because all Poe really said about her was that she was very pretty and very dead.

Alpha-love the steampunk Jedi. Never would have thought of that. Your other designs are good as well.

As for me, I've was inspired by a little known singing group to create an original costume for World Con 2008. It was fun to make and I was able to try my hand at beading and making a barrett. I'll probably tweek it a little, but for the most part it's done. A lot of people loved it and it was a huge hit at the con. It seemed to bring out a part of my personality I didn't know existed. ;)

So far I've done two of my OCs, two versions of one of them :) You can see them both in my costumes list. I'm planning on doing Celestrial's Beserker form some time, and I'm thinking about re-doing DarkChaos :D He definitely looks better than when I did his cosplay many years ago XP

My medieval Countess, which took ten months of work because I insisted on making my own illuminated manuscript girdle book and I hand-embroidered a massive cloak....

I'm a designer myself and I'm pretty into visual kei, I like to combine them with my local culture, and as cheap as possible ^^a

Btw I'm the blue one

This one came up when I want to cosplay as "something VERY blue, visual kei-ish with wings and techno goth vibe, can be done fast and cheap"
and everyone at Con call me "blue vampire queen" ^^a

Lately, I do more Original costumes than anything else. (Though if you count historical garb, that's always been the case.)
Most of my recent galleries are original costumes: http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/m17496/

But you can see way more on my website (For instance, I haven't posted any historical pieces on cosplay.com): http://www.daisyviktoria.com

Wow, thank you everyone for posting here!
Keep 'em coming, I love to check them out and I hope everyone else do too! :)

Btw, I added more pics of my OC cosplay, Yuuto (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/343193/), yesterday! Feel free to have a look! Comments are much appreciated also~

Spread the love! :D
Thank you for participating in the thread!

This is a original costume I made in Oct.
I wanna act the costume as a lovely girl mix with Japanese—Chinese style(I mean the outfit I wear)

wow...alot of these are so stunning! I think OC design is so difficult, and I love to see so much creativity! I've been thinking about designing my own OC and this has just encouraged me ^^
I'll be watching this thread from now!

I have a ton of OCs. One that I've actually transformed from my rave outfit was my OC Virus XD she's REALLY popular at Raves at cons, and surprisingly a lot of my normal cons, people recognize me in it and the character since I have comics and t shirt designs of her and her other OC friends O_o I had normal people from hotel staff want pictures with me XDDD;;

Then I have another costume which is a Satyr I've worn for years at renn fairs, Never really settled on a name, however people dubbed me The Satyr (how original right? lol) and I can't even walk 5ft without someone at the fair stopping me and wanting a picture, some people even come and pet me O_o which is kinda creepy XDD;;

I love this thread so far. ^_^. It's so interesting to see what kind of characters people come up with.

I actually have an OC I would love to cosplay at some point in the future. I just want to wait until I get better at sewing so I can make her outfit perfect.

Here's a couple of mine:
First up- the Skyscraper. This one is the living incarnation of a skyscraper- note the headdress, which was an architectural model for my head, pretty much. The holographic shimmer fabric actually had its pattern applied in little squares, kinda like windowpanes. As for the wings, they were meant to suggest the silver mirror-glass facade of a building, peeled back to reveal the living being underneath. I also wore 4" platform boots for this outit.
Unfortunately the pics aren't the greatest- my makeup didn't turn out well at all, and I forgot to take off the purse I was carrying some essentials in. I should have taken the glasses off too, ack.

Next up is the Mackinac Bridge. I apologize for the poor quality of these pics- they were taken at a halloween party. My belt alone incorporated several bridge features- the stiffening trusses of the deck on the aprons, and the main cables and suspender ropes, not to mention cable lighting. I also wore a dreadlock wig to suggest cables for hair, and an authentic souvenir Mackinac Bridge hat, which didn't wanna stay in place when people photographed it. If you look at the chest of my costume, you'll notice the latticework pattern of the towers is reproduced there too.

Incredibly improbable though it may seem, Amanita is not the only person on this forum who has cosplayed a personified bridge.

This Halloween, I went as the personification of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Bay_Bridge). I'd been drawing this character for quite some time before I decided I might as well cosplay him.

Here's a drawing: http://mitya.deviantart.com/art/I-ll-Shiv-Ya-191456560 (He's the one being threatened. The guy with the knife is Alcatraz.)
He has a crutch and a knee brace because the bridge's east span has this tendency to break, whether in earthquakes or, more recently, completely at random. The current east span is being replaced by something entirely new, but for the time being, there are some temporary segments and external supports on the existing east part of the bridge.

Here's my costume:

It's not the greatest photo ever, because it was taken at 2 AM, at the end of the party. I was stupid and didn't get any photos at the beginning of the evening.
I'm pretty happy with this, but I'm also planning on tweaking it to look even better. I know I want to redo the shirt so it's slightly less too big for me (and so the light blue doesn't get as washed out), at the very least. I'll probably also redo the pattern on the socks to make it more even, and see if I can find shoes that look more like what I've been drawing. I already found a pair of grey jeans to replace the light blue ones. Shame they already have stitching on the back pockets, because I contemplated doing back pocket stitching to look like some of the little through trusses leading up to the main east span cantilever. So, yeah, I guess that basically implies redoing most of the costume, but I'm ok with that.

I went as a personified geologic fault line for Halloween a few years ago, but the only photo of that was taken after I accidentally opened the car door into my face and gave myself a black eye, so I'm not posting that!

My Steampunk Aristocrat: http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/191057/

It's still kind of unfinished, but oh well. She's an aristocratic woman who gets captured by sky pirates. lol We have yet to get the whole group together for a picture though :( Her name is Lady Lillian Harker. :3

I made an Original Visual Kei style character..I plan on using the basic design as a main character in a manga series I plan to make..However, the character in the series will be a demon hunter with a scythe, not a guitarist..lol

The majority of my cosplay so far has been original characters. :)

I designed a Victorian inspired costume for a dance hosted at my husband's university called "An Evening In Paris - Dancing At The Moulin Rouge." I wore a Victorian style black shirt that I found at a thrift store, underneath a bustier that I beaded and embellished by hand. I made the skirt, bustle (which you can barely see in the photos,) fascinator/hat, and jewelry. I wore grey ankle boots I had in my closet, and carried a vintage black velvet clutch.

I also put together some last minute steampunk costumes for myself and my husband for steampunk weekend at Scarborough Renaissance Festival.

Then there's the mermaid/pirate costumes I made and assembled for myself and my husband for a trunk or treat event a couple of years ago. My mermaid costume and shell were Ariel inspired, but I didn't want to *be* Ariel. I made a tail/skirt, shell "bra" (pinned to a nude tank top for kid friendliness,) fin ear cuffs, and jewelry for myself. (Plus a really cheap wig that doesn't look terrible considering it cost about five bucks.) The shell I'm sitting in is made from foam core. (A hole is cut in the bottom half to fit the top of a stool.)
I altered a couple of thrift store finds for my husband's costume, and added tons of accessories, and his ARMA waster.

I made a Lord of the Rings inspired original design. I named it after an actual character from the Silmarillion but the design is completely my own. You guys can check it out here:

I'm currently working on my original Guardian based off the Guardians of Childhood books. Her name is Aurai. She represents the West Wind and is the Guardian of Warmth and Security.

Oh jeez, every time I click on this thread, there's my horrible cosplay from 2010 right at the top of the page, ahhhh!
I've cosplayed a lot of my own OCs since that dreadful picture. I'd like to think I've gotten at least a little bit better at it.

02-24-2014, 08:07 AM
Wow! I haven't been on this thread for awhile ^_^.

@Mai: Thanks! I look forward to seeing your schoolgirl costume.

@Mae: Your elf costume is lovely.

@loveandeyeballs: Very cool stuff! Also, excellent sig quote ^_-.

@Eve and Seismo: Any pics yet? I'm excited to see your stuff!

Not yet, but hopefully it will be done soon.

It's nice seeing all of these cosplays, it gave me more confidence to get Aurai done

All of the costumes on my profile, aside from Karkat (of course), are original characters.
I'm thinking of taking down some of the embarrassingly bad older things, though.

I have an OC which I hope to bring into action for my next con in September, which I'm kind of proud of since it's my first real solo design. No pictures of the actual costume yet but I do have some sketches and a character portrait I've drawn. Are those okay to share here in lieu of actual cosplay pictures? The character is the result of my voracious appetite for history (ancient history in this case) combined with having just watched magical girl anime. Thus was born a whole setting, possibly in a high school, where there are Roman-themed magical girls and 'Barbarian' magical girls locked in a struggle of some sort. That's about as far as I've gotten. But the costume is a Carthaginian magical girl, which I'm pretty sure I've never seen anyone ever do.

My first two times cosplaying, my best friend and I decided to do original designs of popular Nintendo characters. We agreed that we weren't experienced enough to pull off a canon cosplay, and that being funny or different would compensate for our lack of technical skill.
So, Comic-Con 2012, we were Hipster Link and Hipster Zelda.

Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of her as Zelda, but she was adorable and totally hipster. She carried a sign shaped like a large light arrow that read, "#HipsterHyrule, I'm the seventh sage -- you've probably never heard of me".
For costumes thrown together, we were a big hit. We also got a lot of people that came up to us to tell us hipster jokes. "How did the hipster burn his mouth? -- He bit into his pizza before it was cool."

Comic-Con 2013, we were post-apocalyptic Princess Peach and Princess Daisy.
The back of Peach's sign says, "Not so PEACHY anymore, is it?" She forgot her blue pendant that day.
Almost 200 people took pictures with/of us! (We brought a handheld click counter. Haha. You can see it in my friend's hand). I think I've definitely improved since this cosplay, and we didn't have as much time as I would have liked, but I still like it. I'm proud of our crowns and we got a few compliments on them--we made them out of the bottom of oatmeal cans! And the Bob-ombs. Cuties.
I think when my technical skill improves even more, I'd like to revisit the concept and make a cosplay that looks even more post-apocalyptic (I don't think our cosplays screamed post-apocalyptic, but I think they were cute, and not bad for survival attire). Like, I'd like to make guns.

My Original Mirkwood / Greenwood the Great Elf Costume.

Inspired by the Kingdom East of the Misty Mountain, I used greens and browns.

Everything on the costume is handmade except for the beads (in which I purchased but was very picky about what bead I used as the necklace and circlet) and the necklace wrap.

I hand-sewed this entire costume. I just keep telling myself I did it for accuracy ;-;

I too am also working on an OC. He's a Greek Spartan inspired Superhero that I designed in both the "City of Heroes" and "Champions Online" games and I just started working on him earlier this year so I don't have any pics up yet. Unfortunately I haven't had to much time to work on him because of my job in the Army and now I'm going to have even less time at my disposal seeing as how I'll be deploying in a little bit :( But I'm hoping to work on the costume if I can while I'm deployed. So then that way when I come back it'll already be done and I can showcase it at the first con I can attend upon my return. So I guess we'll see how it goes :)

Here's an OC of mine that's gotten a lot of love, most notably from the staff of the building which inspired it- One Penn Plaza:

Here's another pic taken in the actual building lobby:

I'm new to this forum but always been into making costumes and fursuits. I only do original designs and characters because, well, honestly I have never really watched anime! I am a furrier by trade, so generally my style involves at least a few dead animals :)

White Kitsune (sold)

Pioneer wolf person? Not sure what to call this one, haha!

Wolf headdress, part of a more complex costume I'm working on.
