View Full Version : Tieing the Kimono Sash (Belt) For Matsumoto Rangiku (or any in general)

So, I'm cosplaying Matsumoto Rangiku and just as a question. I can make the outfit, have the wig in the mail, and working on the acessories but for the life of me, how do you tie the sash? It's not an obi, so I mean I can't tie it period. And as I look at Rangiku's sash I'm left flabbergasted. ;.;

Could you please link to a picture? I'm not too familiar with the character yet. ^^;
Maybe I could help as a fellow kendoka... thus meaning I wear kendogi and hakama regularly at least once a week.

Here (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f399/wrymon/Matsumoto.png)is a very good picture of Matsumoto's shinigami uniform. Note how she ties her belt into a very large bow, and leaves one side long enough for her vice-captain badge.

It always takes me forever to get a serviceable bow tied every convention, so having a more experienced person give a how-to would be very helpful to me as well.

Also, I was wondering if anyone could give pointers on how to secure Matsumoto's sword behind her back (as seen here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/LonelyShifter/Matsumoto/e036-04.jpg))? I always tie it around the pink scarf, but that only works from some angles.

Ousch, that white big-ribbon-sash-thing? o_o
Now I'm so sorry but I don't know how to tie something like that. Gomen nasai! T_T
(I could help with how to tie hakama though...)

I guess it's not a normal ribbon bow that's put so it isn't straight...?

instead of tying a bow with a square knot (which makes it sit horizontally) you could try to tie it with a "granny knot" which will make it twist and sit vertically, and then flip the longer side back through the sash so it lays next to the bow like in the pic above. i hope this makes sense

the best way i can explain a "granny knot" is to repeat the first step of the bow instead of reversing it as in a square knot. left-over-right, then left-over-right again instead of right-over-left, then left-over-right. you'll have to be careful untying this since it usually won't just pull apart like a regular bow.

also, isn't her sword just tucked into the back of her sash? i have no idea how to get it to sit sideways instead of hanging down though

edit: bow should look like this
