I just wanted to know how many cosplayers are out there who are in theatre as well. ^^ I do mostly community theatre shows, but I was in one professional show last year, and I'd love to be again sometime. ^^

Any theatre people~?

I'm interested in it and I can expend the time for it but I'm unable to dedicate enough energy into an act. :/

Yeah i used to be in theater, for like 9 years almost. I took a break from it because I wanted to focus on schoolwork and other things.

I've mostly done street theatre, as an adult. Previously, I'd done some school plays and some professional shows with ballet companies as a child.

I think the background has been good for cosplay. :)

omg YES. Theatre is my major. I am involved in it all year--it's the reason why my schedule is so unreliable. >.< But I love it very much. I like to do musicals because I've always been a singer first. ^^ I've done community, school, and professional gigs, and in four months' time, I'll have my BA and will take a crack at the real world!

I've been a theatre person literally all my life (I was Baby Jesus once, yo!)
When I went to college, I was offered a scholarship for costume design and construction, but had to turn it down when I couldn't double major with Creative Writing.

But yeah. I'm in a new play now, after three years of not doing anything theatre-wise. The Vagina Monologues! (though whether or not it's actually considered a play is up for debate...)

Ahh, how cool that some of you guys are majoring in theatre! ^^ I'm a senior in high school, but I've been accepted to Marshall University next year and I've decided on double majoring in theatre and Japanese! ^^ What could be better!? XD I'll be busy, but I think it will be worth it, especially to have a degree to work in the two things that I absolutely adore.

I was in musicals back in high school c: And if anyone wants to feel jealous, i was in Fiddler on the Roof with Joey Richter (the guy who plays Ron in the Very Potter Musical). So feel jealous, ahaha~

Anyways. I'm not in theatre anymore, but my friends in cosplay are. My friend who cosplays Italy is in dance, my other friend whom lacks a costume to go by is in choir and works the Dickens Faire, and then my favorite Japan cosplayer in the world is a total theatre girl XD

Me too! <3 That's my major too =D Costume design and construction, mostly, but with a small acting touches.

I am a high schools major for Theatre, and wanting to become a voice actress, and a Drama teacher =D

I've been acting for over a decade, mostly in theater (not musical, though; 'Pippin' was enough to dissuade me). So, the cosplaying is, to me, much like getting into a period costume for a Shakespearean play. But I do the latter much more often than the former.

HareyuNanami: How cool, I want to be a voice actress too! ^^ Unfortunately I've only been involved in YouTube fandubs, but I'd love for it to go somewhere someday!

SecretSoliloquy: !?!?! I love Pippin! D: May I ask why you had a bad experience with it?

I've had experience in theatre, yes. Mostly the city Shakespeare Conservatory and no-budget school plays (quite literally, any money spent on productions came directly from the actors' or director's pocket).

I was going to apply for acting school until I learned that it would mean touching a lot of people I was only mildly familiar with. I went into writing instead.

It's a fun show to watch, if a little campy, but musical theater just is not my thing. My acting style is far more suited to dramas and Shakespearean tragedies. In 'Pippin', my one and only direction was constantly 'smile bigger', and just to do everything 'bigger'. Musical theater is play-acting, and I prefer realism.

Theater is my major as well, and I have always been a Shakespeare nerd.
Okay, a HUGE Shakespeare nerd. Like, I quote King Lear at the dinner table and read Othello in fifth grade Shakespeare nerd.
I started acting when I was five, in my community theater. I was a teddy bear in Raggedy Ann and Andy. I haven't looked back since.
And one way that it's DEFINITELY helpful for cosplay, I came from a high school theater department that prided itself in the fact that it made all of it's own costumes. I actually had four years of costume design classes in high school, and it helps big time.

I was active in theatre in high school which was fun but I haven't had much chance to be involved since I graduated. I was in all 8 plays during high school so there's a picture on me in the auditorium.

:)I'm currently in a Theatre Production Class. I'm kinda lucky, cause my school goes all out on electives (especially music) so we have a musical every other year, and two plays without a musical. But the unlucky thing is that there so many people trying out, only upper classmen get parts.

I don't know any school that doesn't do that. Very unfair. I never bothered doing plays in school because I knew they'd overlook my talent in favor of those that had been there longer. I got lead and supporting roles in plays in the area instead. The high school I was in never did plays I was interested in, anyway. All musical theater. But, then, I guess that's all they do, due to their fear that parents' wouldn't want their kids in substantive productions.

I've been involved in community theatre and school plays since I was thirteen years old. I'm absolutely in love with theatre, and I always keep up with the audition schedules in my area. The last play I performed in was The Importance of Being Earnest (designed the program, too~) as Cecily Cardew. Learning how to speak with a proper British accent was super-awesome and fun, no lie. :D

However, since I've started working full-time, I've been unable to participate as much as I'd like. :(

I went to a performing arts high school, and I did the whole audition for every school evar thing. I didn't know if I wanted to pursue musical theatre or "straight" theatre, so I just applied at schools where I'd be considered for both programs. I got in everywhere I applied, which was awesome! :) I currently go to one of the top (musical) theatre conservatories in the country. I realize all this sounds like bragging but *shrugs* it's true.

Also SecretSoliloquy, I'm so sorry your only musical experience was Pippin, and a bad one at that... Musical theatre is really no different than "regular" theatre, sounds like your director was just stupid. "Smile bigger" is not something a director should EVER say! XD

My high school was very weird, and did mostly shows that would be considered WILDLY INAPPROPRIATE by the average high school's standard. It was a good experience, they really treated us like adults in my time there. But then again, I've met about five other people who had good experiences at their high school as far as acting. It's just high school's nature to be a bad place for taking theatre seriously...

I used to do a lot of theatre in Highschool and I am just about to graduate with a BFA in theatre for costume studies and as part of the education we have to costume our schools shows so i love being involved in theatre work as well as the cosplay

We start a tourney of show in secondary school and we got contract at like 7 hours of drving, ahah xD And in two years, we will play in a festival in France. OMG. I can't wait <333

Yeah, It is pretty unfair. I'm going to probably try for plays in this area, since there aren't unfair advantages (usually/hopefully) in community theatre. Our theatre does pretty good stuff. This year we did The Scarlet Pimpernel, but it was edited like heck.

I was in theater in high school, and I wish I was in it sooner than junior year. >: It was fun.
I did like....6-8 plays, a couple were small school-hours productions I hated (and so did the school) but I had fun. My favorite role was my first as Baptista in Taming of the Shrew. We had a 20's version of the play, and if you've seen Chicago, that's what it was like. Thus, giving me my part and theater nickname of Matron Mama Morton. XD

Yep! I have a BFA in Costume Design and currently work as a freelance costumer in NYC. I love it, it's so rewarding to see your hard work on stage. I'm hoping to go back to school soon and get my MFA in costume design as well :)

I also love musicals, they're always so much fun!

Yep yep, I did theatre in high school all four years, then continued it in college, until I decided theatre as a career wasn't for me. It is still something I enjoy a LOT and I participate in various skits and community plays now and then. You can often tell when you meet a cosplayer who is into theatre... we are special. XD

I was pretty into theatre in high school. I did eight shows, I believe, in my years there, and was head of set design for two of those. Sadly, the life of a mechanical engineering major doesn't leave much time for acting, so I never get to do it anymore :(

Ehh I'm on tech crew in my high schools theatre guild. Been doing it since my freshman year. It's a lot of fun and I really love it but I don't think I'd ever make it my career.

I used to be in theatre, and I loved the attention after the shows. I never got negative feedback from my leaders - so why on Earth did I stop? I will start participating in plays next year, though :)

....Well. I cannot speak in front of people, so that kind of rules out acting.
Buuuut, I love to dance! I dance five days a week in my studio's traveling troupe! :D
I also skate, but I don't think it's theatre...

Ahhh, how cool! ^^ I dance as well, but I've always wanted to skate...I've learned that there are several things that make skating much more diffcult to be graceful. XD Although, I have a friend who is a good figure skater but can't dance very well, so...it would be interesting to see a study or something done on the relation between the two. XD

I'm a theater people!
I'm been active in a conservatory-style theater production and training program for about five years. Before that, I did shows at a summer camp for three years.
I've always been the kind of person who belongs in theater though ,from when I was really little I loved playing dress-up and reading stories aloud with funny voices. And being in a theater feels natural to me, to the degree that it feels weird when I'm watching it but have no part in it.
