I have a feeling the answer will vary depending on which con's forum I post to. ;)

Anyway, for 2003, the dates for Anime Central and Anime North are conflicting. I'm not sure which one to visit for my first non-California con. Both cons cost more or less the same to travel to from home. I've read the web info for both cons (well, not quite for AN since they still haven't updated for 2003 yet). Both sound spiffy.

My question is, for those of y'all who don't live near Chicago or Toronto, how do you determine which con to go to for next year?

I don't know much about Anime North, but I go to ACen mostly because I know a lot of people there. ^_^; It's a good Con, though... However, Toronto seems like a cooler place to go. Hmmm... Now you have me thinking!

Well, I for one will be going to Acen. I like the people and the events there!

Well, there's gotta be someone from the other side giving their opinion! I haven't been to ACen but I have been to AN and its great, lots of nice people in a comfy anime environment ^_^! Yeah AN is real slow on updating their site though, but if you go to the site and scroll to the bottom theres a link to the AN message board, if you go there you can get some info on what's going on for 2003, great guests coming!

Hahahah we got Scott McNiel before ACen =P but you got Piro from MT! *shakes fist* lol ~_^

I'm hoping to go to ACentral, depending if I can find someone to fly with, and if I have the money for hotel and whatnot. ^^ I'd like to branch out form the East coast a bit, if funding will let me! ^_^ Anime North sounds cool too, but I'm not a terribly big fan of flying, so the closer the better for now! ^^;;;

I'm planning on going to Anime Central myself... if I get my comp badges and it doesn't conflict with Akon YET AGAIN.

So I go to check dates and I will let you GUESS what it located at animecentral.org. X__X

Having seen the dates, I should be there too!
I always wanted to go to Chicago.

Although back on topic if you want a non-CA con, without going all the way to the East Coast, go to Akon (Dallas, TX). It's centrally-located, it's big, and it's a LOT of fun!

Sami and Rosiel, you guys might be at ACen? Sweet! XD It's too bad that ACen is still so far out in the burbs, cause my building's roof deck should be open by then, and we have a damn fine view of the skyline. Whereas in Rosemont you have a view of . . . well, O'Hare. lol.

And yes, we have gotten Piro from MT. Dude, I've never seen that many people try to fit into a room for a panel before. oO

I hope to attend! Or at least try.. ^____^ I've heard a lot of good things about it!

I actually have a very good friend who attends AKon every year, so I'm thinking about biting the proverbial bullet (or "airplane vomit bag", as you wish ^_^) and flying down for that instead. I would have to choose between the two, probably, because it'd probably be too much money for me to spend on flying to two cons. Although I'm not very familiar with airline prices nowadays -- I only know how much it is to fly from BWI to Boston and back, LOL. ^^;

Akon plane tickets cost me more or less $200 every year.
Flying on AA (good food) from National, which is generally more expensive than BWI but easier to access for me.

That's not -too- bad. Haha, Texas. Always wanted to go to Texas. ^___^ I want to see a real armadillo.. <3

We can finally get in and out of BWI without any major trouble, thankfully! Although last time when we went home for a week, they charged us an arm and a leg for parking.. -_-

Never park your car at an airport!

In that case, either take a shuttle or do what I do, that is jump on the metro and go to National, the metro station is in the airport.

They have a bus system to get to BWI but it leaves from Greenbelt which is very far. I did it once, never again. Same for Dulles.

Yeah, it's unfortunate because we're not really close to anything.. sort of out in nowhere-land. ._. At least back home we could take the T to the airport.

Although, since it'll just be me going, I'll make my boyfriend ferry me back and forth from the airport. :D :D (Isn't that what they are for, anyways?)

Well I'm going to ACen for two reasons...one my friends will be there and two, i can't afford to go to any other cons and wait...here's a third...ACEN IS HELLA COOL!!!

Wow, this thread is still going strong ^_^

It looks like I'm heading to Anime North, mainly because I actually know a couple of folks in Toronto I can crash at, and there's a new vintage of icewine to be picked up. Perhaps ACen will happen in 2004 if cons would stop overlapping so much. X(
