View Full Version : Calling all Not-Princesses !

*waves*

First of all, this is NOT a hate-princesses thread.

I would just like to hear about your Disney costumes that aren't princesses or takes on them. Why ? Because I haven't heard a lot of stories about non-princess costumes and I would like to. :)

Made a less-popular Disney costume ? Working on one ? Planning one ? Tell about it here ! :D If you'd like to link to a costume of yours, that would be nice, too - I'd love to see them. :) Are there any Timon and Pumbaas out there ? Any Cogsworths ? Has anyone done Maleficent's dragon form ? I'm sure there are characters I'm forgetting when I go looking for costumes !

I just want to see what other people have done - the costumes I might not see otherwise because it didn't occur to me to put their names in the search box. That's what this thread is about. :)

For me, I'm helping someone make a Ratcliffe (Pocahontas) costume right now, and after 5.5 yards of fuchsia wool flannel, I was roped into making a Wiggins costume. I never would have thought to look for costumes of these two if I hadn't - and I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of things like this. :)

Oh, great idea! :D Well, while I haven't cosplayed anything Disney yet myself, my sister has cosplayed Candace from Phineas and Ferb (http://fav.me/d2sl3io) (reference image here (http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/hs227.ash2/50334_41305786024_1287905_n.jpg)) and we've got more to come, but we're not exactly sure when we'll get the time to do them. :p

I've cosplayed Vanessa from The Little Mermaid (Ursula's human form):
http://www.cosplay.com/costume/300171/

It was one of the most fun costumes I've ever done. Especially having an Ariel to play off of. People don't seem to recognize her right away, but when they do, they tend to get very excited. ^^

Well, I all my costumes aren't Princesses, because I'm a guy! :eeek: but they're not so rare as those ones you've mentioned! :thumbsup:So far I've just done Flynn Rider. :D I have pics on here but there's more on my facebook (http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/JudgePoody?sk=photos)

Next I plan to do (all hopefully this year) Prince Edward from Enchanted and Terence from Tinkerbell! :bigtu:

I've done Drizella and made my friend Anastasia ^_^ Fun times. I'm being spoiled by fun characters like them, Lottie and Tink that princesses are starting to be a bore lol

I can't wait to see Radcliffe and Wiggins! Don't forget to borrow someone's pug x3

That being said I think you have a wonderful face for Mother Gothel :)

I've done Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas: http://www.cosplay.com/costume/227417/

It's definitely my favorite costume, and I love the reactions I get when I wear it. =) I would love to cosplay Jane Porter sometime. Tarzan doesn't get enough love.

Why hello.*smirks*

I don't do princesses. I do queens.

I'm a Disney lover but I'm not a princess fan. I actually refuse to be a Disney princess. It's not that I don't like them, but because none of them were ever my favorite characters, even as a little kid. (I always loved the secondary characters and comic reliefs more.) And it's no fun to be a character you don't want to be.

My list consists of mostly villains along with other more-or-less obscure characters. My next Disney ones I'm looking into next are the Old Hag or Dr. Facilier as well as remaking the Evil Queen. Further down the experience list are Maleficent and Queen Narissa (see?) and possibly some of the Broadway version characters. I'm also greatly contemplating Clopin from Hunchback of Notre Dame as well as Lilo from Lilo and Stitch.

The Queen has definitely been my most fun costume while other people have made it my most popular. I just love the villains more and they're definitely a lot more fun to play! It's also very theraputic IMO. In fact, I have friends who automatically dub me the "default villain" for a fandom because of that. So I've keep getting suggestions them like Shego from Kim Possible, Yzma from Emperor's New Groove, or the Red Queen from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (even though I probably won't ever be her).

I got it!!!! Sorry, idk what I'm doing here. I love Disney, but I haven't cosplayed any Disney characters yet, HOWEVER when I do Alice or Wendy is first on my list!

I've always related more to the male characters, really.

I don't relate to him, but want to cosplay Gaston SO badly. But I'm not nearly manly enough. :(

I do like Jane from Tarzan, though. She was kind of badass

Oh, God! Or any of Glenn Close's costumes from the live-action 101 Dalmatians! She was SO fabulous!

I've done Alice. And a card guard, white rabbit, and flower to go along with her.

And to go along with my Snow White (yes, I know, I was a princess), I made my husband Prince, and my son Dopey (my daughter was another Snow White, though we referred to her as Snow and Prince's daughter ;)

I made my SIL an Esmerelda bathing suit, and designed and helped my friend make a Mulan one (here's a link since they're not listed as costumes, but are in my gallery http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/187366/)

I made my husband a prince Eric (I really need to post some pics of that)

I have Giselle and Tinkerbell on my to-make list. I'm a perfect blend of those two characters. Sweet, but with a little too much attitude, Will make clothes out of anything, and love lost things. Especially shinies (and bead stores count. Those beads are lost, looking for a good home ;))

I also have Vanessa on my list. The occasional villaness is fun, and how many characters have my name? I just need to wait until my son stops having Ursela nightmares (he LOVES the little mermaid, but he thinks about it too much and scares himself.)

Huh, coulda swore I posted in here...oh well, I shall do so now.

Like Musical Pencil I'm in the 'I'm a Queen' point, though not of the evil variety. I've done Queen Leah, Aurora's mom...though ironically have been called the Evil Queen from Snow White and Maleficent all within a matter of an hour at the same convention...even after telling them who I was. Ah, sci-fi crowd, you amuse me. However, I'm now tempted to make a dragon version of Maleficent for a friend...thanks for the idea!

I've cosplayed Mulan if that counts? Even though she always appears as a princess in merchandise, I don't consider her a princess. I've also cosplayed Meg from Hercules and Silvermist from the Disney Fairies line.
As far as non-princess cosplays coming up, I'm looking to do Esmeralda and Babette(the feather duster from BatB)

I'm having a Vanessa commissioned! I have a seashell necklace that will glow and I've created a King Triton polyp inside a crown (from the movie) as a prop. I'm contemplating creating plush versions of Flotsam and Jetsam or a mirror with Ursula's image.

Oh neat my friend is trying to do an Ursula cosplay too.

So basically me and my friend are going to create an Ursala cosplay together. I'm going to try to make it but -_- I cannot sew so I will probably be asking for help here.

Also we are going to do a Dr. Facilier cosplay so it will be cool since we will all be together we'll have an Ursala, a Dr. Facilier and a Tiana yay for Disney group of friends cosplaying.

Well, my High school is doing a Peter Pan play and I'm actually Mr. Smee in it... Though, since I look nothing like him as in, I'm not short and fat, but rather tall and skinny and a girl, I'm going to make it a bit different while still basing it off of him in some aspects.

I do love his red hat and found the PERFECT pattern online for me to actually knit it. All I need to do is get the right size of double-pointed needles, which, I never really worked with them, but I'm confident in my abilities...

Also, every single incarnation of Smee, Disney and non-disney wears glasses! Glasses are a must.

I'll have a blue and white striped shirt too, but this one will have longer sleeves and maybe thicker stripes so that they can look better onstage and a sleeveless vest then maybe some kneesocks and loose pants. Yeah, exciting...

Hmmm... well, I'll help our Captain Hook in our school play with his costume so I might be able to give you advice.

It's not necessarily that. She's made some pretty impressive costumes in the past and is one of the better crossplayers I've seen. The issue is that she's feeling overworked and like she has too much on her plate right now, cosplay-wise. Never in a million years would I hold something like that against her, though. I'm not going to push it.

Thanks so much for the offer, though. If she does eventually decide to join our legion of evil, we might hit you up for advice.

I've done the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, and my friends are trying to rope me into a Mary Poppins group (I'd be Mary, seeing as I'm the only one of us who makes and wears dresses).

There's others I'd like to do, too. I was just thinking the other day how fun Captain Hook cosplay would be, and I've been off and on entertaining the idea of cosplaying Scarlett from Pirates of the Caribbean for a while.

Also, servants/furniture from Beauty and the Beast needs to happen. Many years ago, I was in my high school's production of Beauty and the Beast, and the crazy costumes were the most fun part. I was a plate!

My friends and I had so much fun at Mickey's Halloween Party that we now have costumes planned until about 2020. Last year was Peter Pan (I'd really recommend doing Hook, as ours had fun and "the" Hook had a blast when he spotted us at Disneyland), this is Beauty and the Beast, complete with all the supporting cast of teapot, candlestick, featherduster, etc. Next year is Mary Poppins, and I'm still going back and forth between regular MP (my friend has claimed "Jolly Holiday" MP) and a penguin. So far, the penguin is winning.

I have done Meg (though I need better pics as mine came out all blurry), Elizabeth Swan (though I bought the dress so, I'm not sure if that really counts), Susan Pevensie in the green dress from the first Narnia that belongs to Disney. She's technicaly a Queen too. ;)

I plan on doing Vidia, Maleficent, and would love to try and pull off Boo though unless I get a really tall Sully "Kitty" it won't look right.(I'm way too tall *sigh*) I would love to run around as Stitch if I ever get ambitious enough to learn the inner workings of a fur suit. I have been thinking of making a Merryweather costume for my mom so we can cosplay together. I could make Auora's mom for her too but she has such beautiful dark brown hair which is perfect for Merryweather. My absolute dream would be to make the Maleficent dragon costume. I have been thinking how possible it would be to actually make a costume that transforms from witch to dragon. (everyone I know thinks I'm crazy ;)) I would also love to make a Demona cosplay from Gargoyles. It would be nice to have it for when Marina Sirtis comes back to my local sci-fi con. I'm sure she'd love it. :)

I'm so happy that I finally got my Smee shirt... Again, as my body type is different, it will not be the same... Rather, it will be a version that will fit my body type which is like tall and thin as opposed to short and fat...

knitting the hat... I need a smaller needle size in order to get the right gauge... Gaaah!!! Oh well, I'm just slowly building up my knitting needle collection...

Since I'll be saving most of my money on a dance pole to help stay in shape (for a good quality, it isn't expensive... but... it still is) , I don't know whether after the play I should wear it to conventions like I do with my red kimono when my theatre group decided this live 50s sitcom... It was a play about people getting ready and putting on a play... weird... But I might consider it...

There is also a 90's Fox cartoon version of Peter Pan and... I kind of like Wendy in that... though I'm afraid people would think I'm Amelia from Slayers since they do look a lot alike... Starkey's outfit also looks awesome... though... he looks like Gaston except a little more feminine... He is kind of a fruit...

Still... Starkey is like my favorite character in that non-Disney Peter Pan adaptation which was actually really, really good...

Kbelle
03-04-2011, 06:24 PM
Our Smee was a tall, insanely thin Asian guy. People didn't get it so much when it was just me and him for a bit until everyone else got there, but once they saw Peter and Hook with it, they figured it out. I'm sure people will get it, especially if you have the hat and striped shirt.

We got one "Oh look, Wendy with a pirate!" The rest of it was "Giselle!" (that one I could kinda see) and "Omg, I love your Cinderella dress! Where did you get it?" (this one left me shaking my head every time, especially when a CM did it).

Formalhaut - The Anastasia people are referencing is Anastasia Tremaine from Cinderella. She and Drizella seem like they would be so much fun to do.

Sagittarius - It's ok. Tiger Lily gets like, zero love anyway, so everyone forgets she is technically a Disney Princess. I forgot, and Peter Pan is my favorite movie!

I just realized that I have some purple fabric I picked up to make a costume for a toga party 5 years ago, that I ended up not attending. It may get turned into Meg, if I have enough, as it keeps calling to me to do something with it.

I'm working on a Blue Fairy! :3 I've got all my fabric - and ho damn, it's lot more than you'd think! @__@ There's my shimmery blue for the dress, my sheer shimmery blue for the sleeves, my sheer white for the wings, and my navy blue satin for the brooch and belt.

I think aside from the general cult status of Pinocchio even for a Disney hit, and aside from the fact that most of the movie is nightmare fuel, part of the reason you don't see her cosplayed a lot is because of how gorram inconsistent the references are in terms of what is/isn't see through and what is/isn't glittery. XD But I think part of why I wanted to show her love via cosplay is because she gets so little.

If this is not evidence that I am insane and shouldn't be allowed to have ideas, then I don't know what is.

I'm sittin' here, listening to the Kingdom Hearts score when the arrangement of 'Night on Bald Mountain' from the first game comes on and I think to myself, that hey, if I made a mascot-type suit out of the Chernabog, it might look pretty badass!

@ TR Rose: I love your Vanessa!

I recently did Vanessa at Anime LA a couple of weeks ago. You're right, it's tons of fun to play off with an Ariel for poses. This was a pretty easy costume to make. It took me less than a week to have it done. I did the version of her in the cloak when she first appears. Running around a con in a badass looking cloak was tons of fun. I'm still waiting on my photoshoot pics from Anime LA, but this will do for now:

If anyone's headed to a Georgia con (D*Con, AWA, Momocon, etc) watch for a six foot tall Ches running around.

Well, I'm currently working on a Peter Pan cosplay, but hopefully next year I'll have an Alice cosplay finished as well. ^^

I was Wendy last year at a cosplay convention. I'm hoping to do Alice for my next one, I love her (even though I cannot find a hatter!). And Mary Poppins is still on my wish-list ^^

I'm planning a Kim Possible group with some friends for Katsucon - I'm billed for Kim, one friend as Ron, a second as Shego. We may have a Drakken joining us as well but that's TBD.

So I got an idea for pretty much the weirdest crossover costume(s) ever that would either be epic or just... no.

I take it most of you have seen The Lion King, but has anyone seen Utena? Well, due to some brainstorming for reasons I won't get into I kind of want to do a gijinka Mufasa and female!Scar as a duelist and rose bride respectively. Especially if I can make it to NSS next year.

No one would get and and it's weird, but I personally want to do it ._.

Oh my god, you're Anastasia is BEAUTIFUL!! I love it! I was thinking of doing her orphan version. Like, her scrubby yellow coat and hat with short hair?

But, again, you're are amazing! <3

Thank you so much ObitoTheHero I really love both of them myself the Grand Dutchess seemed to be more popular then the Dream Dress.

But I got a lot of photo's and hugs in both of them.

This is my first post in this forum, so hi all! I'm currently working on the cartoon version of the Queen of Hearts. I've wanted to make this for a while, so I finally started modifying other patterns and just going for it. The gown is, without a doubt, the most complex thing I've ever sewed! I'll post a progress thread when I can.

I cosplayed Mabel from Gravity Falls and Vanellope (still sort of a princess, but you know) from Wreck it Ralph. I'm planning a Megera (Hercules) cosplay sometime in the future.

I'm putting together a Cheshire Cat costume from the cartoon version, with my own twist of course!

I unfortunately cannot make anything from scratch...but I am really good at altering things.

So far I have made the shoes, working on screen printing and painting the jacket I have, I also need to get the top and bottoms for it and paint them.

I have bought the tail, stockings and a not so good wig which I am painting...

I have dressed up as what I liked to call "Mama Odie taking Dr. Facilier's place" So a mix of the two. I have also done Cruella De Vil when I was younger and plan to dress up as her again while my two brothers dress up as Horace and Jasper.

I have always enjoyed dressing up as either the bad guy or a background character.

Last year for Halloween I made costumes for myself and 2 friends and we were The Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus. The costumes were not great and they were really rushed (I was in my last semester of college making the costumes after class and I did it all in about 50 hours over the course of about 2 weeks). The costumes were really well received and we even won 2 different costume contests with them. We are actually working on making them movie accurate now that we have more time and more money and taking them to a con. It was so much fun staying in character all night! (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/3498475/)

I've also done a zombie version of Inspector Gadget (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/3498476/ (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/3498476/)) that I put together in like a night as well as Sally from A Nightmare Before Christmas (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/3498474/).

Currently working on an Ursula costume as well as Maleficent and Cruella DeVille for my 2 friends and I. (I sew they don't so they do the fabrication and I play with the fabric).

Me and My Little Sister are trying to do Fairy Mary and Fawn from Disney Fairies.
Thought coming up with patterns for both is proving to be a bit tough even though there pretty simple costumes.

I'm attempting to put together Zarina the pirate fairy. I have a lot to do still, and only like a month left. I have a long maxi skirt I'm going to turn into the bunched up one she has.

I saw a pic of a Zarina at SDCC, it looked super cute! I'm sure the base is easy just the details take a bit of time
