View Full Version : Anyone know about Pokemon Cards?

Yes, with the New Year comes major cleaning and I happened to find a binder with some Pokemon Cards. (198 of them!)
A few of them are holo's and I also had a few Digimon cards in there, some are actual cards and others were collectible paper cards when Fox Kids use to issue the member's magizines back when I was a little girl.
All of them are in perfect condition but I have no clue where to start selling them!

I live in Indiana and have never had to sell cards before, but I know a lot of people buy these Pokemon Cards and seeing as I have no use for them, I'd love to get some extra cash to help with my cosplay budget!

Does anyone know where I can get maybe a price guide or know of collectors who might be looking for cards like these?
If ya do and you need maybe pictures of just a list, I can get that up!

I dont know nothing about that, but I'd say a deck of 198 Pokemon cards would make a killer poker game.

Pokermon. The marketing practically writes itself.

I've got a massive box of them... I was going to give them to my friend's little brother, but then I, er, had a better idea (*coughCARDDRESScough*)

I had a brief look on Ebay and it seemed like the market was pretty stale... there were a few cards that people were really after but they were mostly the new ones, overall the cards that WERE selling were going for between 10p and 50p. Mind you, this is the UK, maybe it's better in the US?

+1 to check Ebay. What a card is "worth" doesn't always accurately reflect what people are actually paying for them. I sold most of mine before the fad died, but from what I've seen, the market's pretty stale here as well. Maybe in another 20 years they'll be worth more again.

I have some friends who got back into the TCG after years of not playing. All those original cards are no longer "legal" for playing. They've released entirely new sets with some slightly different rules and now you can only use the new cards. Explains why the older ones aren't going for very much.

I don't think you'd get a lot of money (certainly not what you paid for them originally). Maybe years from now when they're a nostalgia kick, but the avid players can't use them anymore so I don't think they're worth what they were when the craze was full tilt. :\

I'm a collector... I grew up with Pokémon cards and can't just let it go. XD
I believe other collectors would be interested if you wrote down what cards you have, what condition they are in and what set and of course if they're in good condition. ^^
Try to sell them at ebay or something, or ask people around you... or take them with you to a con.

Best of luck!

^ This.
I remember being really pissed as a kid that they added like a bagillion new Pokemon after I'd collected all the first cards.

That's right! I know Anime Boston has a swap meet (http://animeboston.com/events/swapmeet/), and I'm sure other cons have something like that...

Yeah, the original Pokemon cards aren't worth very much. I had about 500+ cards and sold them this past summer for $2 for a random pick of 50 on ebay. They're not worth as much now as they were when they were "legal" in playing.

Oh I didn't know about the new sets!

But honestly, I don't think you'll be able to get a lot of money for it. My group of friends and I were talking about the nostalgic times like 3 weeks ago and there's no market in any store. I mean one of the guys I was talking about tried to sell his 1st edition holographic of the evolution of growlithe and no shop wanted to buy it.

Personally,I wouldn't sell any of my cards for nostalgic reasons...but I wouldn't pay high to have more

Your best luck bet is with the nostalgic people(if you find some)...and even there, you won't get that much

Maybe wait until the new Pokemon games come out in March and see if the interest rises at all. And everyone is broke from Christmas right now :\

They're only first editions if they have a symbol on the card that says "1st edition". Otherwise they're later issues and not worth as much.

I just checked them all. Seems I only had one 1st edition.

Those cards really aren't worth anything because of the competitive rotations. The only old cards that might still have any value are 1st edition Charizard and any famous error cards.

You might be able to use the cards other ways, such as making a decorative collage or framing them and hang on a wall. I've always wanted to do something with the 5 million commons I have from collecting. XD

Holy crap that's alot of cards!!!
Yeah, since I may not be able to actually sell them, I was trying to think of other uses for them. I know someone said something of making a dress and I've seen a few pictures of someone who had made some really awesome Japanese armor out of them. I dunno exactly how much money I'm willing to spend on having to buy worthless cards to do something on that scale, but it sure was interesting!

You could always ask for donations of cards...I am sure there are plenty of people here who don't really expect to make much use out of the cards they have from the good ol' days.

You might be able to make totes/bags too, like some people do with old Capri sun packages...I love those kinds of purses!

Yeah, the CARD DRESS :D it's actually turned into a whole masquerade design now...

It's going to take THOUSANDS, though I'm not being picky - I've got about 1500 between all the different kind of collectable cards I've had over the years, and I'm hitting up everyone I know for their old collections, and then it'll be on to ebay to relieve people of their unwanted old collections on the cheap... yeah, massive project.

On a smaller scale, though, type 'playing card art' into google images. There's one artist who's name escapes me who does really cool optical illusion things with them, and it's the same basic principle.

XD Yeah! I started to look up neat things to do with them although I think I might just find someone who likes Pokemon and give them my cards.

Okay, for those of you that collected and remember the old Pokemon cards, as in the Neo Genesis and what not, I've got a question for those who remembers this. Is the Neo Genesis and Neo Revolation packs together considered the Season 2 Pokemon set? In terms of Season 2, I mean, Pichu, Togepi, Houndour, Heracross, Umbreon, Esbeon, etc. Way before today's Pokemon was ever thought of.

I'm asking is because I only have half of the Second Season of the Pokemon cards and I would like to get them all before they totally disappear off the face of the earth. I'm not into Pokemon like I use to be, but I adore old school anime and this would totally awsome if I can collect all of the Second Season Pokemon cards. Not right at this moment, but when I go to garage/yard sales and manage to find them for an awsome price.

Thanks :bigtu:

I have tons of Pokemon cards that I need to find a use for. But does anyone know about Yu-Gi-Oh Cards I found 6of them going through my Pokemon cards. 3 of them are first Edition. I'm not one who collects those cards and I think these are one my sister found somewhere and their kinda creased.
The cards - Snatch Steal Spell(1st),Thestalos The firestorm Monarch(1st), Unshaven Angler (1st), silver Fang(this ones in horrible shape), Pyramid Turtle, and kozaky
Yeah I didn want to start a new topic for this so if you don't want to reply that's fine
Thanks :)

Is there a symbol off to the left side of the card? If so, does it look like this?

http://www.pokeorder.com/

(Scroll down and under "Pokemon Cards", click "Pokemon Single Card Shop". When you do, scroll down until you find "Pokemon Neo Genesis" and then click on it. Click on "Holofoil Cards". Scroll down until you find "Neo Genesis- Pichu Holofoil". When you do, click on it for the picture.)

If so, then that's a first edition. That's the only time that a Pokemon card is first edition. I've got a few of these first editions myself.

Found I only had 1 first ED. XD

As for my Yu-Gi-Oh cards, I have like, every starter deck twice over and a bunch of random and japanese ones. Ended up just giving those away to a kid who was like the son of my mom's friend. XD
