OK cosplayers with smartphones, post your favorite anime, cosplay, japanese apps that you've downloaded for your phone Please also say if it was free, if not how much$ and if it was for droid or iPhone.

LOL I ask because I need to find a Japanese translator app that actually SPEAKS back the word in Japanese. None of mine will :( . Also a good fabric yardage calculator might be nice. Just curious what everyone is using.

Also bored and this seemed lie a good topic starter.

Guidebook. A lot of cons will have a Guidebook for their schedule, and it's loaded to your phone so you can still use it when you can't get decent reception in the facility.

I personally think the app for when you're uncomfortable in a place and need to have a back up in case something happens to you. I believe one of them is kitestring, they're designed to alert people if you don't put your password in after a certain amount of time. It helps you stay safe in shadier areas, especially if you're alone. Safety is always important, especially in a place you aren't familiar with.

The closest Japanese app to the one OP described I've found is Google Translate, to be honest.

These are great suggestions. I might add the Marvel app, Comixology, or similar (is there an e-reader app that is good for anime?). Nothing like getting an idea at 2 am but there are no stores open to pop into and research the character. Just buy it on the app and you can get whatever you need. (I suppose you could Google it but I like having primary sources.)

https://www.splitwise.com/ <------ Not specifically cosplay, but it's super useful for cons. Will help you split all kinds of expenses. Great for hotels, bills, trips, etc. (also non-convention related uses!)
