Hey guys! I've had the worst of luck trying to find fabric for this cosplay so thus I've come for help! :D Anyone have any ideas on where to go about finding a fabric such as:

Any thoughts/comments are greatly appreciated! :)

Chances are your NOT gonna find that, if you do it will be tres expensive.

It would take a lot of time, but taking black pleather and making the jacket out of it, then HAND inking the squares on will give the best result I think. Using a dark gray marker so it's not glaringly obvious, but catches the light to give that patterned effect.

I'd say check online and on ebay, you might find something in a similar print. you may also want to google to see if anyone else has done that jacket before, they may have tips.

I wonder if screen printing onto plain fabric would work? either getting dark grey fabric and DIY screen printing black squares, or vice versa. I don't know how well you can screen onto things like nylon or vinyl. though that makes me wonder if maybe doing some painstaking taping or stenciling and spray painting would be easiest for those fabrics.

Do you have a Walmart with fabric departments where you live? If so they may have what you are looking for.

The Walmart where I live has a vinyl in the section with the home decor fabrics that is smooth black with suede checks. It has somewhat of a texture because of the of the suede, but looks really similar to your ref picture.

EDIT: Went to Walmart and took pictures of the fabric.

Thanks for all of the input guys! I've searched high and low (rural and online) for the fabric and came across nothing. I was just about to give up and paint on all of the squares myself until I seen Tonyu's post! :) I don't have a Wal-Mart w/ a fabric section anywhere near me (They got rid of fabric T__T) , I'll have to continue the hunt!

I tried it all for my cosplay.

Closest I could find I got. X_X
Went high and low. Low and high.
It was impossible to find a shiny leather like fabric with black / "sliced" gray colors.

So I took the next better thing.
