Fun fact. At lunch last year, these girls said, "You lost the game!" I find the game annoying and I also did not care for these girls. So I turned around, yelled, "The game is dead!," and went back to my meal.

I don't really have an opinion on 'the game', but it depends on how it's said.
-I'm not a fan of the people who just up and yell "YOU LOST THE GAME!" at conventions, and everyone yells back at them, because that's being stupid and immature.
-But, there's a guy at my sister's school that'll just walk up to her and say 'The Game.' and they just joke around for a minute and move on. THIS I'm fine with.

Also, I'm curious...Where and when the heck did the game start?!

What do you not care for about books, if I may be so bold as to ask?

Aearon
01-21-2011, 01:00 AM
Of course you may be so bold. =)
I consider fiction in particular to be a waste of time. I remember having to read sooo many fiction books for Middle and High School wishing I could have been learning more about computers or science instead. I've never had a problem with vocabulary, spelling, grammar, etc. Heck, a ton of people that read can't spell for their lives or even know how to spell etc. let alone what it stands for.
Non-fiction is better, but I don't care much for U.S. History. Ancient History and Japanese History are more interesting, but I prefer to read it online through various encyclopedias or wikipedia if something catches my eye (which is rare).
Like I said, I prefer to read/learn about tech news/innovations in science.
Posting in forums is just a way to kill a bit of time when I'm too lazy to do other things or while I'm at work. =) I do like reading the tutorials and various experiences people have creating costumes and props though. A lot of the threads here are quite useful. =)

Well... There are several reasons for my dislike of U.S. History.

First: U.S. history gets shoved down your throat since you're in elementary school.
Second: U.S. history covers a lot less time than the history of the world or even most other civilizations/governments.
Third: We have to deal with our Presidents and related government officials screwing us over in the U.S. all the time. I'd rather not read about our past Presidents/officials doing the same thing to us over and over. You'd think we'd be smarter than that by now...
Fourth: Honestly, I'm not that into wars and conflicts that have been fought since the creation of firearms. >.> I'd much rather learn about more ancient weapons. =)

First: U.S. history gets shoved down your throat since you're in elementary school.

I seriously doubt that, considering the state of public school system in the US.

Incidentally, everything interesting/pertinent I learned about the US (and virtually everything else in existence), I learned when I got out of school.

Second: U.S. history covers a lot less time than the history of the world or even most other civilizations/governments.

Was that sarcasm or some sort of abstract joke?

Third: We have to deal with our Presidents and related government officials screwing us over in the U.S. all the time. I'd rather not read about our past Presidents/officials doing the same thing to us over and over.

Yeah, Abe Lincoln was a real asshole.

You'd think we'd be smarter than that by now...

I wonder on what part of the smart-scale does 'complete disregard/ignorance of particular topic' stand at?

Fourth: Honestly, I'm not that into wars and conflicts that have been fought since the creation of firearms. >.> I'd much rather learn about more ancient weapons. =)

Hungry? Why wait? Grab a Snickers! Snickers is good and so are Jolly Ranchers.

They are the candies that cheer me up the most. Especially Snickers. 8D
I have two pep band games in a row tomorrow at an away game starting at 3 and won't be home until 11 or 12. I am eating one, and it's going to be damn good.

I wasn't calling Sam a troll! I meant someone else, clad in the whiteness that describes snow, but in the form that Snow Job implies something dirty

Besides, troll or not, I still want to call someone Snow Job

I wasnt talking about SV, either.

I knew who you were talking about, and was talking about him.

I would never think SV as short-sighted. I'm actually the first to admit he's smarter than I am.

Funnily enough, I do need glasses.

This lovefest is making me want to remake the short-lived 80's sitcom Bosom Buddies with you. I'm sure we could do a better job than Tom Hanks and...not Tom Hanks.

Volnixshin: Yes, but rather than Marty McFly, I'd say the Biff from the first movie. Not the Biff from 1955 who was evil and tried to rape Marty's mother, but the Biff who we first encountered in the film, who was apparently an indentured servant to Marty's father.

I look terrible in uniforms; can I just sport like a casual, sassy librarian look instead?

Favorite candies: Haribo gummi bears (they have to be Haribo, otherwise I don't want to hear about it), toffee, those Kasugai gummies, lollipops, candy apples, rock candy, Twix, Raisinets in hot popcorn, Reese's Pieces.

I like history that isn't all political maneuvering and military campaigns. Historical fiction can be a gas. If you want some really fascinating American history, try reading Erik Larson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Larson_%28author%29) or James Loewen's Lies My Teacher Told Me (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0743296281/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0684818868&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0G075KCYGCF99HNKGK8K). Not all history is what you learn in school, and not all history is dry and dull.

Does anyone else like coffee? I mean, not like regular coffee you pick up at the Dunkin Donuts, or you make at home, like those fine coffee's you find in those nice coffee shops, and places like that.

I'm big into fancy lattes and that junk. My mom gets good-quality coffee and grinds it fresh, then brews it with filtered water. I still take it with a ton of milk and sugar, but it tastes noticeably better than just, like, a pot of Folger's with water from the tap.

Well, first I'm going to offer my two cents on a few previous topics.

American History: It can be fascinating at times. Seriously. You just have to get...eh...more specific about it. For example, History of the CIA in the Third World is fascinating, as is History of Globalization and Terrorism (from an American standpoint, of course.) The Gilded age was interesting as well.

Candy: My favorites are probably Kit Kat's (Milk Tea-flavored, specifically), caramels, Chewy Spree, Andes mints, and any sort of very dark chocolate.

Now, onto the topic at hand.

Yes, I love coffee. Actually, I've learned how to duplicate many coffee-shop recipes at home. I went out and bought whole bunch of Monin (http://americas.monin.com/#/catalog/5) syrups to mix into everything, bought a bunch of appliances, and sort of learned from there. So if I'm sitting at home and I want a gingersnap latte, I just get up, go into the kitchen, and make one.
Yeah...it gets pretty serious around here.

I know, right? SO many choices! I like the shortbread, the butterscotch, the raspberry, the cinnamon, the creme caramel, the gingerbread, the spiced brown sugar, and the toasted marshmallow best for coffee. (I got several of these for Christmas. Yay, Santa!)

I have not tried the cucumber yet, but it looks interesting. Maybe for a mixed drink? I haven't gotten too adventurous with the fruit and flower flavors yet.

Going back to the original topic...
I think "the game" has been overdone, but there are a few times when I find it amusing.

I remember at AnimeLand TuCon, we were playing a game of Simon says, and after I was out, I said "I lost the game". Of course some people groaned. I just smiled and said "What game did you think I was talking about?"

I would also be amused if there was a cosplay skit where the characters were playing Yu-Gi-Oh (or any game for that matter) and the loser said "I lost the game... Why does everyone groan when I say that?"

I can read binary code (very, very slowly.) I dated a mathematician (who now teaches at NYU) for four years, and he was one of those freaky-smart people who could read that shit like it was Where the Wild Things Are. He taught me enough to read short stuff on my own, but I have to process in order to write binary code. lol

Oh, The Game. I think it can still be amusing if it's said just once in a while, when you least expect it... or when it would be appropiate to make a joke about, say, if you lose when playing a game. Then it's still good. However, shouting it every 5 minutes somewhat kills the point. -_- HOWEVER, I haven't experienced this yet(maybe because I haven't been to a huge con yet?)
