View Full Version : Fast way to sell fundraiser candy?

Ok, my school is having a fundraiser for World's Finest Chocolate selling for a dollar. I'm required to sell 100 candy bars in only a few weeks time.

Do you adults have any tricks you used way back then ;) to sell your candy quick? Or anyone else with suggestions? Because I really don't want to spend 10 hours like last year trying to sell bars door-to-door...

Things to know:
-I already tried contacting my local mall. No solociting. :waaaah:
-No cosplaying to get noticed. The area I live in is rough, and I will get unwanted attention dressing in a short skirt.

sell it all at school. there is always people desperate for candy there

also ask you r favorite teacher if he will keep a box of the candy bars in his classroom and sell them there for you
thats what all the kids in my school did

visit school clubs and sport practices and ask if anyone wants candy

EDIT: oh wait, my bad your whole school is selling them. herp

you can try selling to family members?

Required ?

For what ? I don't think they can MAKE you do anything unless this is a private school. :/

100 bars in a few weeks really isn't much, though. Some places WILL let you sit outside their stores and sell it since it's for a school - just ask (I've seen this at local grocery stores - usually helps if you bring a table with you or have a sign to wear - that way you look legit).

Otherwise, I can't imagine only selling 10 an hour door-to-door - they're only $1, after all. And if that's what it takes - you have a few weeks, so you could just do one hour a day spread out over 10 days. :)

Wish there was a "like" button for this one, FTW!

I wonder what police will do to me if I followed the advice of Sponge Bob...probably put me in the mental ward...=0

And no, to anyone who thinks of this, Mello is not a real person. I cannot sell all my chocolate to him. >>;;

Tell everyone that your candy is the only candy that wont turn them into teenager personalities and distract them so a giant wormy demon can eat babies.

Maybe go to like a gymnastics gym, daycare, martial arts place (or some place with alot of kids) and go up to the owner and explain to them your situation and see if they will let you set up a display with your candy there. I believe that you will have more of a chance at succeeding if it is a place where you know people. You could possible try to alter the price of the candy by maybe .05-.25 cents and give the additional funds you bring in to the owner of the business in which your candy is displayed.

Y-you're crazy!! If I did that, then there would be no babies for me to eat for breakfast! Where's the point in having the worm demon eat them, when they're "so delicious and moist"?

You see, it won't be a triumph, and I won't make a note here- huge success. I also couldn't state my satisfaction. =(

This. Depending on the kind of area you live in, just set up a little table in an area a lot of people walk near, like a town square or park. May or may not be allowed. Point is, let them come to you.

This is sort of a good idea.

Selling them outside a supermarket is a good idea as well, unless you run into the same problem you did at the mall.

It was a half-joke, really.

But back in high school, one of my friends was leaving a late theatre practice with a box of fundraiser candy, and when she passed a bar, several people decided to buy candy. When she left the bar, there was no candy left, and she was much richer than she would have been anywhere else. Yes, she gouged the price of the candy, and yes, the drunken patrons were delighted with their purchases.

As someone suggested, take the box to lunch with you. Though if all the kids are doing it I guess that's pretty useless. lol

Make your parents take it to work and have them leave the box where people can see it. I see people with Girl Scout cookies outside Walmart. There's a couple suggestions.

I always took stuff door-to-door. Usually it was candy bars, but I also sold raffle tickets door-to-door so I could afford to attend prom (it was either pay x amount to go, or sell x amount of tickets). Usually people will shell out a buck or two for a school sale, since most everyone either had to sell stuff themselves or had kids who did.

When i had to sell candy at school, i gave it to my parents to sell at work. Then the rest of it, i sold to my friends who didn't go to the school.

Do you do any extracurricular activities/know anyone who does? You can go to those places and sell them; a girl at my dance studio actually did that today. Don't be afraid to ask the teachers in those places if they want any or if they would sell/advertise for you.

Always done that with my fundraisers too and helped a lot. Maybe carry a sign that says you're selling candy may help too.

Selling in bars is a sure way to get rid of product. I work at a pizzeria, with an attached bar, and I sell to all of our drunks. :D A little cleavage always helps, too. Or threaten bodily harm, but that usually only works when you're the girl from the hockey team. @_@

Try taking the box to a local family restaurant and ask if you can sell there? If you've got a friend that works there, all the better! I sell ALL the candy in my friend group. As a restaurant hostess, I see a lot of people and make a lot of sales.

Out of curiosity, what can they do to you if you *don't* sell them ?

In public school, I see how some people could have gotten the impression that we *had* to do the fundraisers - what with the ZOMG GOALS and ZOMG PRIZES that they drilled into people at assemblies. However, if you didn't sell anything or didn't reach a goal, they didn't have the power to actually expel you or change your schooling in ANY way.

I don't understand why a private school would be all that different. This is, what ? Less than $100 once materials are considered ? If they really need it, they can just add it to tuition.

Dilandau213
02-24-2011, 12:11 AM
It's to help all the kids to lower tuition, not to increase the funds for the school. If I don't sell the candy, then my parents pay for the candy. >>;;

I really need to get this candy out of the house before I eat it all and gain a ton...and waste my money. I already ate two of them. -.-;;

See if you can sell it around a blood bank/women's clinic or possibly see if your parents will toss the box on the lunch room table at work.

Try an old folk's home. They LOVE to buy things from cute kids/younguns and when in a home, don't get much chance to go out shopping for sweets or such (I'm aware, older people don't each much candy, but that's certainly not to say that they eat none). And provided they're able to eat it, it's not like it's an exorbitant price for them either.

My kids go to a private school. They have to $350 fundraising as part of their tuition every year. We raised $65. The rest came out of our pocket. I'm not even gonna tell you what tuition is. And times that by 5 for High School.

It all depends where you go to school. My tuition isn't much at all. :)

Nyu~ I remember when I had to do that crud. We had a big ol' cardboard box with the chocolate bars in their stupid little slots that they never stayed in properly.

At the time I would go around my area with my Mother going door to door. The sight of an innocent, pure, adult-accompanied little girl with stars in her eyes and chocolate to nom got me a lot of sales. But depending on how rough your area is I am not sure that'd work well even with your parent.

I'd call up local businesses (not a chain store. small.) and they'd usually let me hang out for a while. I am sure that me bringing my friends and all of us regularly buying sodas from them during our candy sale made it an even exchange.

My parents would take the box to work with them and set it up in their break-room as well. Some companies don't let you do that but at the time my mom was one of the bosses so she got away with it :P

Ahhh, fundraising candy.....Evil little devils.

When I was young and had to sell them, I would go door to door with my mother and my close friend. I would then kindly explain that they simply had to buy my candy or my friend *standing next to me* would buy it all, eat it, and get fat. I had alot of stupid things like that to say. My creativity sold the candy in a heartbeat.

Or go outside a supermarket. That worked too......

I only had to sell things for fundraising a couple of times in school. I lived out in the country too... So, I'd hop on my dirtbike and go from house to house each day. And, of course I'd beg family members to buy things. XD

In regards to your fundraising, which kind(s) of the World's Finest bars do you have? Just the solid chocolate or do ya have all of the various types? (I think there's 4. >.>)

I have milk chocolate, almond, carmal, crunch and dork almond. They added a new flavor. I don't know why people like that bitter stuff. DX

I already have this one lady I know who wants to buy all the milk chocolate off me (she says it's good for baking stuff...?), and that's my favorite candy bar. I'll be happy when she does so I can say "goodbye" to craving it. Oy.

It's because that dark chocolate is healthier and contains less sugar than milk chocolate. I don't mind dark chocolate though, I like it.

If you have a cute and adorable little sibling or kid you know could also help you sell it too.

Strange things happen when you sell candy. I got bit by a guy's dog. o.o I got asked my email address and phone number by a strange guy who hardly knew English. And a guy with a limp lied to me about studying in college for four years to be a second lieutenet in the army. His story didn't add up...

Selling 50 bars surprizingly took only two hours.

Strange people... Only 50 bars left! Hopefully, the people at my parent's work will eat the rest now. >>;;

Or maybe go to another school and sell them as school is getting out?

Students at my school are doing that fundraiser right now until the end of the month. A few of them stood at the doors everyone uses to leave at the end of the day. I think they cashed in on the end-of-day-hunger that most of us experience.

However, I think the best thing ever would be wearing sunglasses and trench coat with the different chocolate bars attached to the inside of the coat. Tell people you have the World's Best Chocolate. Sketchy getaway vehicle optional as it would be just for show.

Haha my school sells the World's Finest Chocolate too :D (and they definitely ARE the World's Finest... My friends who sell the chocolates love coming to me xD)

What I found some kids do is ask the librarian or the school office to put their box of chocolates and have it sold then. c:

OK, here's what you need to do. Check the weather forecast and seen when the next rainy day is. When that day rolls around WEAR A RAIN COAT!!! DO NOT use an umbrella!!!! You look more pitiful that way. And don't drive yourself. Have someone else drive you. It's all about your image. If you know a kid in the 6-10 year old range, bribe them with a candy bar to go with you! Cute kids help!

If you do this and go door to door (even though you said you didn't want to, but it's worth it) you'll sell a heck of a lot more than if you were to do it any other way. Trust me, I did this back in girl scouts, and I filled almost my entire sheet in one day.

Once this is done, if you still have some bars left over, go sell them where your parents work around 3p.m.
