Do you guys believe in a doppelganger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppelg%C3%A4nger)? If so, why?

I have been thinking about this today because my roommates and I went to Animation on Display this past weekend in SF and one of the guys who did the stand up was...well...ME. It was weird. He looked like me, sounded like me, was around my same height and shape, and he went by the name DeAngelo (I say went by because I have no idea if this was a stand up comedy made up name or his actual name). My name is Angel, which is just too close.

WEIRD.

Now I wonder which one of us is evil. Someone has to be right?

when I was 10, me any my sister went swimming in a public pool and we saw these girls that looked like ourself. Hell, they even came with there popa (granddad) like us who looked like ours and there names also started with the same letters as ours.

lol to tell you the truth, it scared me.

I remember when I was little my brother swore this girl at the grocery store looked like me, I didn't really think so.

I have a freaky resemblance to Christina Ricci though.

My college has a lot of people that look exactly like people I know, even my friends have noticed the twins. Supposedly there is a girl who looks exactly like me, does her hair and makeup the same too, I have yet to see her.

My husband found a picture of a girl online who looks exactly like me and was in Japan at a festival wearing a Shinsengumi uniform. Honestly, it could have been me except that I've never been to Japan. :)

i've had a few over the course of my life but never actually saw them. when i was around 10-12 a friend of mine swore she saw me at the grocery store and wondered why i was with a stranger... i was at another friend's house (with my mom) at the time. here in MO i get a lot of people i've never met saying "i know you from somewhere", and my usual response is "i used to work at (X auto parts)" because i recognize a LOT of the customers from there and i was always the girl with the crazy hair. i did have a twin running around in the town about 35 miles north of here about 10 years ago, but i never got the chance to meet her either, and most of the people who think they recognize me are from that town

my dad looks eerily like robin williams, but taller and with darker hair and a goatie

Oh man, you just reminded me that my dad looks exactly like the guy from Beetlejuice. Not Beetlejuice, the guy that lives in the attic with his wife. He has the same glasses and shirt, I thought my dad was in the movie for the longest time.

I found mine in my friends Uni prospectus. Old me that is, as in long curly hair and slightly chubby and not the handsome beast I am today ;)

There's an old dude with crappy posture/walking stance, a really depressing face ("I have never known joy in my life" kind of face) and the signs of belly fat who I see pass along the street here every so often.

My mind keeps thinking 'You're gonna look like this in 20 years' --- because he has his hair combed the same way and I can see... similarities in posture and general appearance.

The whole thing has me quite unnerved!

----

I've also met several people at conventions who look exactly like some of my coworkers, hair, facial features, voice --- personality is different, but I think I'm going to make a mistake when addressing them at some point.

Me? I totally believe in doppelgangers. Why? ... My of my neighbours down the street is a mirror image of my cousin. They have zero relations to each other, birthed from a couple of a totally different ethnicity, but the skin tone, the eyes, the hair, everything is like the same. I'm freaked out Q__Q;!

ok i had to dig around, because of all of the pics i have on computer and actual film photos, i only have ONE pic of my dad, and my scanner is in storage so i had to take a pic of the pic. i apologize for the poor quality, and it isn't a great picture to begin with, but it's the only one!

Not exactly doppelganger related, but I have a very strange habit of looking at strangers who are obviously older than me (gender is irrelevant, strangely enough) and wondering, "What if that's ME coming back in time from the future to relay an important message to myself or something? Egad! That would mean I'll go bald!" These ponderings never last very long, but what else do I have to think about on a long subway ride?

ALL LOOK LIKE SAME DAMN PERSON.

In high school we were reading a book with portraits of people who had died in concentration camps during the Holocaust. I think three or four of us, myself included, saw pictures in there of people who looked just like us. It was kind of incredibly creepy-- not just because they looked exactly like us, but because they, you know, died horrible deaths.

Apparently I look like everyone's niece, or their son's girlfriend. Despite the fact that I only have one aunt and have never dated anybody. People also say my sister and I look identical, even though my sister takes after mum and I take after dad. I also become suddenly related to anyone who's tall since I'm tall (even if said person is my complete opposite in terms of coloring and ... well, everything)

I remember when I was younger that I would get told I looked like a girl that was in my Fourth Grade class. Now people tell me "you look so much like this girl I know" >.> I guess the one doppelgänger I've gotten a lot was that I look like Selena Gomez.

My ex found my doppleganger on a sort of hot or not thread (or whatever) on 4chan. He immediately sent me a message asking if I had a leopard print shawl. We had a pretty good laugh, the girl's face was so similar it was eerie. o_O

This past weekend at Katsu, two different people mistook me for someone else. It was rather funny actually! I sort of wish I had seen those people in person, though, for the LOLs.

I apologize in advance for being so pedantic, but in German, "Doppelgänger" is a masculine noun. So if you use a German article, it should be "der Doppelgänger" not "das" which is the definite article for neuter nouns. Der Doppelgänger is also a song by Franz Schubert. It just bugs me a little when I see the thread. I know I'm being a dick. Sorry. /endGermangrammarnazi

..I believe in doppelgängers, yes. I have a friend in Seattle, that said there's this girl at his college that looks exactly like me, which is funny, 'cause I've never been to USA. Oh, and my scout leader says he could've sworn he saw me in a town like 2 hours away from here. Co-incidence?

I found my doppelganger years ago while watching the wedding singer. He looks exactly like I did when I was younger, it was the fat kid that Drew Barrymore dancer with at the bar mitzvah, actor named Jimmy Karz, I later saw where he had played in matilda with the whole cake scene, made me laugh :)

Had panels with my doppleganger the past weekend at Stellar Con. We met 2 years ago when people asked kept asking me about chain mail bikinis and her about the Capclave parties.

The resemblance is because we have similar noses, long hair, and more or less the same ethnic back ground. I don't see it, she's gorgeous and I'm not. Will post a photo when I find it.

Back in high school, when my hair was longer, people said I looked like Avril Lavigne, back in her punk stage. I didn't really see it. When I started dating my then-boyfriend (now husband), he said I look like her too.

Granted, if I grew my hair out now and went back to my natural hair color, it'd probably be closer... I lost my slight chub. :P

I swear I saw a friend of mine at a truck stop once, only I knew it couldn't have been her.

A few years ago I went to NYC with my marching band. My mom was looking up webcams in Time Square and swore she saw me in one. She called asking if I lost my group, since she didn't see anyone else from my band in it. Apparently this girl in the video had the same hair cut, facial shape, and even dressed similar. It's kind of a cool thought that I have a 'twin' out there.

People are constantly telling me that I look like Florence from Florence and the Machine. Like, people who don't know each other, from different continents, all saying they had to double-take when they looked through Vogue because they couldn't figure out why I'd be in there.

The other day, I swear I saw an old youth group teacher and 2 of the kids from that group. Needless to say, I almost had a heart attack because I hated them and when I left, I basically told all of them "I dont like you, dont contact me, Im moving out of state." Turns out, it wasnt them, though.
