View Full Version : I've Been Shorn

So yesterday I went in and had about twenty inches lopped off.

No, I didn't get into a random swordfight and miss my jump, resulting in a loss of everything from the knees down. :p I went to my hairstylist after a five-year growing period, and I had her cut my waist-length hair down to about shoulder length. I tend to make these sorts of decisions on the spur of the moment, but I haven't regretted it yet. The shorter hair looks fuller and bounces more than the long, heavy hair did, and it's MUCH easier to clean. Plus, as an always welcome bonus, I donated my lopped off locks to "Locks of Love," a charity that creates human hair wigs for cancer patients who lose their own hair because of the chemotherapy. It's a nice thing to do if you're thinking about a change, and I'd highly recommend it. Plus, if you do that, oftentimes you can even get a discount on your haircut, lol.

Do you guys make drastic hair changes? How often? Do you ever horribly regret your decisions? I've done this sort of thing a few times in the past, but I've had it cut much shorter than this before, and I hated it that short. I think I may have learned my lesson. :p

No pictures?!

I've had near-or-at waist length hair for most of my life, but I did make two big cuts in my early 20s. (Err, and once when I was like 10, and again at 13, but I have no pictures of those to really show the differences!)

I cut my hair to a nice layered cut that barely hit my shoulders after it had been past chest length, and absolutely loved it. But it grew out so quickly that I decided the following year that I had to make a bigger change, and I did. Once my hair was down to a good deal past my shoulders, I cut it all off. It didn't even cover my neck anymore. It was adorable and fun and I loved it. Soooo easy to wash. My hair takes so long to dry now, and I kinda miss how all I had to do was literally shake my head and I was good coming out of the shower back then. Hahahaha.

Since then, however, I've mostly just been growing it out. I got a few cuts here and there, nothing major, and now a little over 3 years later it's back past my waist. Haha. My hair grows so fast...

I don't see myself cutting it off again anytime soon as I'm really enjoying having really long hair again. Maybe someday.

I attached some images! First is my haircut before & after in 2006, and then my haircut before & after in 2007 when I chopped it all off. Lastly I threw in a picture of my hair now. If you look closely behind my back you can see that it's just past my waist. Kind of. Maybe I should just take a back shot sometime.

Actually, I just got my hair cut last week. Lost about ten inches, going from just past mid-back to shoulder length. I plan on donating my hair, just haven't gotten around to going to the post office. I've donated twice before, both times sending in realllly long braids (~25 inches the first time, and ~20 the second time).I usually go years without a haircut, so when I finally do go to the stylist, there's more than enough hair to send. I always enjoy that light-headed feeling you get immediately after all the hair gets chopped off. I can't say I regret my new cut, but I wish I hadn't asked for layers. Now my hair's a pain to put up in a ponytail, and no way do I want to go all summer with my hair down.

@Michi: I love your hair-so pretty!

I got my hair cut last week; it had gotten pretty long and scraggly (http://www.flickr.com/photos/10128270@N02/5179091205/in/set-72157625273449901/), so the stylist took off probably six or seven inches of (mostly fried) hair and now I have a little layered cut that hits about my shoulders.

Sorry, I didn't take any pictures of the new 'do. Maybe I'll take some later to show it off.

I think it's kicky, and I enjoy having hair I don't have to fight with. Since it's shorter, it looks much wavier, so I generally just use a diffuser to dry it and go. Of course, over the weekend my mom said "what happened to your hair? It looked so nice the other day." SORRY I CAN'T BE SALON-FRESH EVERY MOMENT OF MY LIFE, MOOOOM. My mom's a black hole for my self-esteem, though, so I am trying to ignore it and focus on the fact that I have a cute, easy-care haircut for the first time in ages. MOOOOM.

Do want pics. One of the benefits of being preggers is that your hair gets thick and shiny and beautiful. I think it's especially noticeable when you wear it short.

I've gone through having very long hair, to then hacking it all off at various intervals of no real significance. I've had it dyed almost every shade of blonde to brown I can imagine and frequently regret various changes made.

Recently I considered the 'Asian Mullet' but reconsidered.

So I am considering just having it cut to my shoulders and dying it a nice light brown so my roots aren't as noticeable when it grows out.

My hair is currently shorter in the front but in the back falls past the area your back bra-strap hits. (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2854450/)

As a child I had very long hair. (http://i.imgur.com/BKnY4.png)

Then it's been fairly short. You can also see the color of my natural hair at my roots. (http://i.imgur.com/xZ6ue.jpg)

And then I grew it out a bit. (http://i.imgur.com/VoJ7U.jpg)

and I haven't touched it in 4 months.

I barely comb my hair at all, I normally keep it short so I don't need to do much anyway :P

Amusing note: I have the worst bedhair head ever on my driver's license and health insurance card --- that's what going for card photos at 8AM on a weekend does to you.

(The only reason I'm posting here is because it's in the off-topic forum)

I usually grow mine waist length and then chop it short. I haven't cut it (other than taking off the last few inches of my pony tail to get rid of split ends) since about 2005 but I'm still liking it so I haven't chopped it off yet.

I'm a longhaired guy, and I've grown it out twice now. The first was after I got out of high school 13 years ago, then I cut it off for a job in 2003. That got donated to locks of love. I kept the short hair for a while until I finally got tired of having to get it trimmed all the freaking time. That was about 2 years ago now. It's down around my collar bone right now.

I went from shoulder length brown (http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/5535_1205278096523_1365775063_599583_2095569_n.jpg ) to short red/purple (http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/9133_1226245780702_1365775063_667052_2444347_n.jpg ) a few years back. I kept it for a while but eventually got sick of it and let it grow. Now it's this (http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lgpqp0o9Z91qzbra6.jpg), closer to my original. I always dye my hair red/purple but it fades like nobody's business, haha. I didn't regret going short but it just didn't suit me well.

Summer 2009 I chopped about 15 inches off. At the time I was living in Dallas and it was just too hot for me to keep up with. Doesn't help that I'm very sensitive to heat, it was so bad that I couldn't sleep at night with how freaking hot it was. Anyways, I got a really cute a-line bob and figured out that I look much better with medium-short hair. :)

I haven't made DRASTIC, drastic changes...but last year I went from a few inches past my shoulder to a little big longer than a boy cut. I like it though.

I go through those moments. Seems like I always chop off my hair once it gets to my waist. I've done this maybe 7 times in my life so far? My hair grows fairly fast.

What use to be amusing, and has now become annoying, is when the stylist asks me "are you sure you want me to do this?" or "do you need me to call you an ambulance in case you faint?" ...why? I made the decision to come in to cut my hair. It's not like I'm being forced against my will. >.> In fact, it's more then long enough to be donated so stop asking me a million times if I'm going to freak out. -_-

Ehehehe...... My hair's been horrible.

Back in elementary school, my hair was long, past my shoulders, and really easy to deal with. Then came jr. high, and I gained really curly FRO-HAIR, and really horrible bangs. In the end of 8th grade, I got the majority of that cut off and layered, which was a horrible idea, of course, considering I've got horrid curly hair. Then came the end of 10th grade, where I just had about 6 inches cut off to a style like Sakura's Tsubasa hairstyle, minus bangs, where it worked rather nicely until it started getting longer.

Now I'm debating how short I want it next time....

(And no, I don't have pictures, sadly.)

I had my hair long for years and then when I was 13(After much pressure from my annoying cousin and aunt and my mother) I chopped it off to my shoulders. I cried about it for a long time and absolutely hated it. 3 years later, its finally back to where it was and Im happy ^-^

It's funny. I'm in 10th grade and that's the hairstyle I have. Without the little poof though....unless I feel like hairspraying it.

Up til I was 8, I had hair that fell past my hips.

Then, my mom decided to be cheap and cut my hair herself.
She put my hair in a ponytail, and then cut it off, right at the elastic. My hair was so choppy and short that I cried.

I grew it out to mid-back length, and cut 6 inches off in 9th grade. It grew out again, and right after graduation I cut it all off again~ My classmates hardly recognize me anymore because my hair is so short now (an inch past my ears).

http://img602.imageshack.us/img602/229/newidwaction.th.png (http://img602.imageshack.us/i/newidwaction.png/)

I've thought about growing it out again, but I'm ready to chop my hair off again when it's shoulder-length.

I had fairly long hair (http://i51.tinypic.com/4l36gn.jpg) (seen here circa fall 2007) with a centre part and no bangs for quite some time before I realized how unforgiving it was to my mega forehead. Got side-bangs in early '08 and got a side-part. This is how it looked last spring. (http://i56.tinypic.com/2j2xf95.jpg) I started layering the shit out of it and it got progressively shorter later in the summer. (http://i52.tinypic.com/33ndrpj.jpg) In November, after six and a half years of having long hair, it became this, (http://i54.tinypic.com/2wd2bkg.jpg) which is probably my most drastic haircut ever. I love it though. It's somewhere between Arcueid and Franziska von Karma most of the time.

The longest I've had my hair was past the middle of my back. Then I got a mullet. Not like a redneck thing, but a Nikki Sixx circa early 80's style mullet.

I loved it.

Now I want a bowl cut, but I don't think my girlfriend will approve.

Really? Must be a popular hairstyle in 10th grade then, huh? XD *shot*

Oh a side note, I don't know whether I want the same haircut with the bangs or a different style.. I've been wanting to try and get a straight perm, but I don't know how it'll work against my hair. I've also thought of cutting it shorter than the Sakura style.

(I've also been using Katie Bair's wig gallery pics as references for what I'm possibly wanting, style-wise. XD)

LMAO and the girl cutting my hair likes to laugh at me for bringing pictures of "cartoons" (my mom does too)
I'm actually debating, should I get my hair cut like Haruhi (OHSHC) and let it grow out to Sakura-ish? But I feel like my face is too oval-ish.

I have had long hair for the majority of my life. And by long, I mean mid-back-to-waist-length; to me, shoulder-length is considered short. I've only had short hair twice in my life: when I was born and it was growing out, and when I cut it to right below my ears in middle school. Hated it, and grew it back. Long hair is just ME. I don't understand why so many people get bored of their hair when it is long and fabulous and chop it off and/or dye it. I say, get a wig if you're bored. That's my plan, anyway.

Hmmm...

Generally, I look best with at-least-shoulder-length hair.

But once, I cut it off to my ears.
Short hair (http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p283/auberginefoxfire/arent-I-fab7.jpg) (I know I look scene here. A friend dressed me for a really scene-ish photoshoot. Don't judge me.)

Then, later, I dyed it black. (After something bad happened to me and I had sh!t to deal with.)
Short black hair (http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p283/auberginefoxfire/jojoandmeagain.jpg)

But now it's back to its natural color and texture. (http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p283/auberginefoxfire/IMG000036.jpg)

(Though I occasionally straighten it.) (http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p283/auberginefoxfire/IMG000088.jpg)

I'd love to grow it out a bit longer, but I'm not sure it would suit me.

I hate my face shape. My cheeks are just like....not really chubby, I dunno. I just have more of an oval face as opposed to the pointy chin that all teh anime girls have. That's why I like Sakura's hairstyle, because it frames my face and makes it look less oval-ey.

I've always had rather long (waist to hip length), super boring (no bangs, no layers, just there) hair since I was a kid. I'll intermittently chop it off to an inch or two above my shoulders. I want it shorter, but my face is pretty round and I don't know if I'll be able to pull it off. I've been trying to cut it ever since after Otakon last year, but something keeps coming up. My hair is brown and long, so it was easier to keep it long rather than to get a wig for Katara. One of these days I'll get in and get rid of it! I, too, really love the bouncy and manageable feel of shorter hair.

I can't remember having short hair. Apparently it was short at one point in time, because there are pictures of me in Kindergarten with short hair, but I don't remember that far back. o:

Right now my hair is about mid-thigh length. It's almost level with my fingertips if my arms are straight down. Once or twice a year I chop off about 6 or 7 inches, which is enough to be a good trim but not enough to stop it from being long.

I look at the wig classifications in the coscom store and think "Shoulder blade-length hair is 'long'? Surely you jest!"

02-22-2011, 11:34 PM
In my entire life I've made one drastic change....and my hair has never forgiven me >_<.

My hair used to grow exceptionally long (like hitting my thighs length), but in the 80s I opted to chop it off to just below my ears. If that wasn't bad enough I also got it permed.....and the hairdresser went wild with the chemicals @_@. I went around looking like I had just stuck my finger in a toaster for about two years.

Thankfully my hair is no longer dry and frizzy, but even now it refuses to grow further than mid-back length. That haircut/perm is definitely one of those things I'd go back and do differently given the chance.

I've had some Juliette Lewis looking hair for years.

I'm officially done with bangs, but now my hair looks exactly like Aerith's from Final Fantasy.

Blah, I'm thinking of cutting it pretty short. Once I got my wig I really loved the haircut on me so I should get on that.

i had butt-length hair until i was about 13 and got it cut to mid-back, kept that until i was 19 and then undershaved... when that started growing out i just took clippers to the whole thing and haven't looked back since ^_^ short hair is so much easier to take care of and i have SO MUCH it's not even funny

the most extreme thing i do now is change the color every few months, when my roots grow out. i'm naturally brown, but have had various shades of red, black, and blonde over the last 5 years

I've made pretty drastic changes over the years. I will let mine grow out for six months at times, get annoyed by it and chop it all off again. I've also played with different types of facial hair styles as well, goatee, chops, mustache and such.

This past year has been the oddest so far. I decided to let my beard grow for an entire year, shaving my head at random intervals throughout the year. I'm still letting the beard grow right now, but I'm also letting my hair grow back out a bit.

I can't attatch any pictures (I'm at work) until later today. But the pictures I have in my profile are what I looked like during the summer this past year.

All you attractive people with good hair are terrible for my self-esteem. TERRIBLE. You should really think about that before you go sticking your pictures up where less attractive people can see them.

Anyway, here's my haircut (http://www.flickr.com/photos/10128270@N02/5471213739/). It's not salon-fresh, but it is shower-and-blow-dryer-fresh. I'm going tomorrow to get a gloss and a handful of highlights, because it's painfully obvious that half my hair is faded red and half is mousy brown. I think the white streak at the front is looking a little brassy, too. It takes a lot of money and hard work to look this average, you know.

I'm glad someone posted that, I was too tired to look up the info last night. There's an association that I've donated my hair to the last few times that's actually much nicer. (I can't for the life of me remember the name, hair's been chopped and sent off by the person who knows it (which means he could be lying, but I sincerely doubt it)).
