I'm new at this and I have no where else to go...
I just recently had a urge and idea to create a weapon based on one of my favorite Kamen rider characters from the latest season (eventually i'll get to the full suit), Every since then i searched for the weapon online but only to find expensive results. Even besides the price, i wanted something more show accurate.

The design was made to integrate the gimmick of the show which were cards. The handle is segmented into two parts, the two blue outer parts and the black inner. The black inner part of the handle is smaller so that it can slide into the blue handle. This raises the
tiger on the top of the axe to reveal the slot to insert the cards. I'm not worried about about paint very much, however the thing that really has me worried is how to start.

If anyone has any ideas on materials I could use and or how much it would cost, i would appreciate it.

And here is the actual toy: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/cypher/collectibles/gear/dev-visortiger-a.jpg

This is the another difficult part of this build, allowing the top of the axe to rise to reveal the card holder: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/cypher/collectibles/gear/dev-visortiger-b.jpg

Here are some references based on the action figure: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YF1tNfQVN8w/TTg4UVxLMWI/AAAAAAAB3ng/jNYg2XeYZyk/s1600/6.jpg

ps: I'm not looking to make this out of cardboard (like i said i wanted it functional) and I feel pvc pipes are a good start. From there I'm pretty much lost.

I have made this with cardboard before, it's completely functional, I used a pvc pipe for the handle and everything else is just basic logic
