View Full Version : How old are you?

This is somewhat of a tradition I do on every forum I join that doesn't already have one of these polls. Just trying to figure out where the community stands, even though it's pretty obvious that almost all members are teens. Could a mod please sticky this?

13-19 = The World Domination Committee
20-29 = Attend College, Join Socialist Party, Blog About It On Your $4000 Netbook, Wave Flag of Man Who Murdered Civilians
30-39 = Where Did All The Years Go?
40-49 = Pedophiles & Creeps Galore
50-59 = Back In 'Nam My Squad Was Ambushed By Charlie And...
60+ = Sent From My (iPhone) Nursing Home

I'm 29 and don't fit into anything that is in the description of that age group. Shame those descriptions weren't actually catered to the types of people who actually come here. (Maybe the world domination one at best... but I would think the younger crowd would be too busy with school to take over the world.)

The descriptions confuse me, and I don't fit into any of those (and never have).

The poll was posted by someone with very few posts who only joined recently, so I'm guessing they aren't really familiar with the dynamics around here. I do find it offensive that I guess you're supposed to stop making having fun once you reach a certain age. :\

I love how the thread/poll's author is astounded that we're not actually all teenagers. Maybe it's just that not as many teenagers fill out polls. AN UNFORESEEN FLAW IN THE INTEGRITY OF THE POLLING SYSTEM. I had the same exact thought. I was like, what....?

So let's see, to sum up...

1) Post some incoherent political rambling in an unsuccessful attempt to look... I don't know what... witty? Accusing all individuals over 20 of being mindless socialist poseurs and supporting... I don't know who... some civilian-murdering mystery man.

2) Suggest that all individuals age 30 and older are washed up and staring at the empty void that is now their life because, you know, they're over 30 so their life is over. Because they're not 14-19 anymore, of course.

3) Categorize all individuals over 40 as sex criminals, in particular child predators. I think this is my favorite. It's funny, see. Because pedophilia and sex crimes are funny. Oh wait, they're not. Neither is accusing an entire decade of individuals of being sex offenders.

4) Insult the military service and sacrifice of those who fought in the Vietnam War, lost limbs in the war, lost lives in the war, still suffer health problems from the war. Insult the people who have lost loved ones who fought in the war, like members here whose fathers and grandfathers served in Vietnam. Oh, and also get the age wrong by an entire decade.

5) Display a complete lack of understanding of what retirement age means. Instead, confuse 60+yo retirees with 80yo elderly patients who require nursing home services due to the heartbreaking issues of mental and physical decline. Who inexplicably use an iPhone even though they're likely on a fixed income and in a nursing home.

...uh yeah. That displays a whole lot more about the OP, his/her mental state and alarming lack of basic education than it does anything about the population here. Even Llamas can't save this one.

I actually wanted to comment on the Vietnam thing but neglected to since I presumed the poster meant everything 'ironically'.

But the statement did bother me. I shouldnt be bothered because logically there is no reason to be. It's not like the sod was directly insulting veterans or anything, and even if they were, I'm not a vet of that war.

But my papa is. And both of my deceased uncles. I shouldnt be bothered, but I am.

Also:
"Just trying to figure out where the community stands, even though it's pretty obvious that almost all members are teens. Could a mod please sticky this?"

The community will "stand at whatever (non-pedophilic) point they wish", in a manner of speaking. And honestly, it's seemingly obvious that most cosplayers here are about the 15-30 range (to me at least, since I'm not everybody). And why should it be stickied, exactly? :?

Now, I'm sure you believe that those descriptions are very creative, but honestly, sarcasm doesn't extend well into describing age when some may be slightly embarrassed about it. I'm not being rude about it (if it comes out like that, then I'm sorry, I understand it's a tradition with you), but it's kinda not wise to assume all, if any, 40+ cosplayers are pedos and creepers.

:eeek: Sorry, buddy. While there are plenty of teen cosplayers, I'd say the majority (if you count all costumers especially) are mid-20s and up.

And as you can see, the Off-Topic section of the site is a bit more harsh and cynical than the rest of the site as well. The humor you attempted to present in the first post just isn't going to cut it. This just isn't solely a teen oriented board, nor hobby.

As I mentioned before, OP is most likely in that 13-19 range. I remember being a teenager. It was almost as though people who weren't teenagers didn't exist at all. Certainly most of them weren't worthwhile enough to pay any attention to. I just like Pokemon, sleeping and being antisocial. Sometimes relocate from my room to the huge basement area downstairs where my sewing machine lives and sew pieces of fabric to other pieces of fabric while watching Spongebob or, like, Adventure Time because I'm so not a child. World Domination sounds a little too ambitious for my tastes.

Whilst people tend to use the term, "anti-social" very loosely, it does not mean that you, "like to kill people and you hate everybody."

Whilst people who hate others are probably anti-social, and murderers are definitely anti-social, that is far from an accurate definition.

Being genuinely 'anti-social' essentially means that you are unhelpful towards society, which generally means a person who is inconsiderate, potentially damaging to places and people, aggressive, etc. Persistent anti-social behaviour is a sign of possible Antisocial Personality Disorder.

Anti-social behaviour can also be described by what is outlined by the law, which in the UK can be anything from committing a hate crime to having an annoyingly noisy car.

When people loosely use the term, "anti-social" to mean that they are very introverted people, the correct term for that is actually asocial.

There's Anti-Social behaviour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-social_behaviour) (basically stage one) and then there is Anti-social personality disorder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisocial_personality_disorder) for those that persistently are anti-social.

Someone who just isn't social would be called asocial, but most just use anti-social to describe that as well.... so the term "anti-social" has taken on two meanings, and I'm thinking the original meaning has really fallen out of favour and will soon be replaced with the more common usage of it. Considering it should be "asocial" it really lends itself to be... anti social. No one around her uses asocial anymore.

... on a similar note... omg is now in the oxford english dictionary.

I've thrown my lot with the elders. I'll be one bracket up come June, I might as well just say I'm there already.

I'm 23. I don't give a rat's butt about politics and wouldn't spend $4,000 on a netbook even if I had money to burn.

I'm 25 but fall better into the 13-19 and 30-39 descriptions. So I either act younger or older than I actually am. :P

I've been saying I'm in that bracket for the past 5 years. Just easier that way. And easier to say now that I am.

Yup. 30.

Actually, I'm just going to start saying I'm 40 now. (Because I look SO YOUNG for 40!)

30 year old people represent! ^_^

...and I had no idea that according to OP I apparently lost some years there. If you guys find my lost years could you please return them to me?

That reminds me how my sister, who is only three years older than me (currently 25), has a forehead like rubber. She has been moisturising so obsessively since she was a teenager than she has zero wrinkles (not that you'd expect her to have any really, but we look surprisingly similar but my forehead has plenty o' wrinkles when I frown), and if she raises her eyebrows it looks like she's had botox. o~o

If you fully pimp out a macbook air with every single option available, it goes from $999 to $4400. But again, that is with every single option checked. So I guess it is possible, but stupid.

Ugh. The minute you pay more than $400 for a netbook, you can be considered an idiot. Why spend so much on a netbook, when you can get a decent laptop starting at $500.

Then again, Mac-loyalists aren't know for spending wisely. :::covers iphones eyes as he types this:::

30-39 = Where Did All The Years Go?

33 here, proudly so. :)

Well my years went into: Birth, growing, school, videogames, porno discovery, puberty, girl friend, devirginized, jr. high school, new girlfriend, new girlfriend, anime, art, new girlfriend, metal music, teen hardship, new girlfriend, FanimeCon, new girlfriend, high school, FanimeCon, new girlfriend, joined metal band (toured California), new girlfriend, new girlfriend, new girlfriend(s), FanimeCon, new girlfriend, college, FanimeCon, new girlfriend, FanimeCon, internship, FanimeCon, full-time job, FanimeCon, new apartment, FanimeCon, new car, FanimeCon, new girlfriend, FanimeCon, new live-in girlfriend, FanimeCon, serious relationship, good times, FanimeCon, and now building costumes.

And those are just the highlights when I think back. I'd say so far, I never looked back and thought, 'Where Did All The Years Go?'

the ironic thing is, I am part of The World Domination Committee. My bff seriously is trying to take over the world, and I'm second in comand! She is future leader of the world, and I am future vice leader of the world! Muhahahaha!

(I don't really want to take over the world, but if I can, why not? xD)

I'm pretty sure taking over the world -- not including maintaining it -- would be a logistical nightmare.

I'm not sure why it would be assumed most people here are teenagers. Teenagers have to deal with school, parents, and somehow get the cash to make or buy their costumes while still maintaining a social life.

Everyone else though probably have jobs/means of taking care of themselves and no parents to shoot down skimpy costumes.

Agreed. If you get a decent sale, you can get a pretty good laptop for close to $500. =D
