So I'm with a group entering for Masquerade, and well... as much as I'd love to just buy the uniforms, we can't. So I was wondering if anyone knew what pattern to go off of for Italy's uniform jacket?

I'm not a novice to sewing, as I've been sewing my own costumes for years. So I generally know how to use a pattern. But I'll probably die if its TOO confusing of a pattern XD;; I usually ask my grandma for help if it is (LOL).

Other people in our group needing help with patterns are all the Axis and Allies. We're all working together. So if you have suggestions for any of them, that'd be great. But I'm mostly concerned with Italy, as thats my own costume XD;; But any help on ANY of them is magical.

With my Italy uniform, I keep seeing people point me towards this pattern: http://www.simplicity.com/p-2071-misses-mens-plus-size-sleepwear.aspx But... the cuffs bother me. Are the cuffs actually accurate? DX Not to mention its lack of the... shoulder bits.

There's a pattern that I got online for my Military Hungary (and most likely most other military costumes for my forming Hetalia cosplay group.) It had reviews on the website including one from a cosplayer doing Italy. Give me a second to find it.

I keep seeing that one. It bothers me SO SO SO much. The collar is wrong. The cuffs are wrong. I don't think any amount of convincing could get me to use it, haha.

Ah, okay. Sorry

Yeah, sorry XD;; That one doesn't help at all. I cringe when I see it.

I'm extremely OCD about accuracy in my cosplay. And that... is not even close to accurate. Its generally right, but... no.

Alright. If you do find something better could you let me know? So far looks like I'm one of the only people who can sew in my club, so for the new group I'm the only one doing the costumes if they want it made, until we find freshman next year. I'd like to get a better pattern if there's one out there.

Sorry my suggestion wasn't helpful at all.

Are you doing Masquerade for AX?

Its fine <3 I'll just keep searching.

And no, I'm not. Unless something changes. This is for Fanime.

XD;; If I can find some way to make the cuffs more accurate, and possibly find a way to alter the collar, I could use it. But... really, the only reason anyone would use that is if they need the shoulder thingies, and....... a general coat pattern. The details are all so wrong, it'd require hella altering. Altering is one thing I suck at x___x;; So I'll probably just... die a little on the inside with this cosplay.

EDIT: Found another big problem with it... it buttons on the wrong side XD;; Another alteration I'd have to make with it. GUHH...

I'm not even attempting buttons unless I just sew some decorative ones on. I'm doing snaps for the pockets and a zipper on the inside. Most of my sewing knowledge is learned from doing and I don't feel confident enough to do buttons yet.

I've searched and scoured these forums for an hour before posting for help XD;; The pattern posted for Germany's uniform is the one we'll probably end up using. But... otherwise, it doesn't particularly help. XD;;

I'm fairly certain I posted this in a similar thread, but I could just be losing my mind. xD;
This is by far, one of my favorites for Italy. (http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/patterns/sewingpatterns.pl?patternid=13887)

And the buttoning on the wrong side is really easy to fix. xD Just swap the pieces. No extra fuss needed. /fairly irrelevant

I know there was another thread on it. Which I scoured and poked through, and nothing helped XD;; That exact pattern was posted there as well. It looks good, except the seams in the front that Italy's uniform lacks, as well as the cuffs being... near nonexistant.

And hearing that it supposedly is really hard to use. I think its my best bet so far, if I can find some way to make the cuffs... x__x

xD; Burda isn't the easiest brand to use, but the final product tends to be worth the extra hair pulling, imo.

I don't actually own the pattern, so I have no idea if the seams can be left off, or subtly altered. I don't think cuffs are too hard to make, though I'd practice with fabric/material you don't mind tossing away first.

I dunno, my last attempts at making cuffs went... poorly XD;; My poor Sailor!Italy costume.

Ooh~ I'd say practice makes perfect, but there are somethings I heavily rely on my mother's help for. xD

First off, Chibi Baka Zaru, you totally RULE for having this:bigtu: This is totally going to help me with my future grab-and-go Hetalia cosplays.

Okay, Axelai, I first off want to thank you so much for helping me with my HRE cosplay and he should be done really really soon:toothy:

Now, since you helped me, I'm going to try and help you^^ Okay, from what I'm seeing, you may have 2 options. You either have to find a pattern that is very similar to Italy's (I'm assuming Veneciano) cosplay and you're going to have to do some serious combining and possibly tweeking of the pattern pieces OR you're going to have to completely make up all of the pattern pieces for Italy and just see what happens from there. If the cuffs are making you that nervous, then like ☆ Kei ☆ said before, just practice on some scrap fabirc until you're saticfied:toothy:

The HRE cosplay you helped me with, that was totally NOTHING BUT made up patterns from start to finish. Yeah, it was a pain in the butt and the shirt was giving me a hard time, but it still came out half way decent than what I have wanted it to be.:p

Anyway, I hope this helps;)

Well, thing is, I would LOVE to make my own pattern. But I simply can't. I'm experienced in sewing, not in making patterns. I know it'd turn out atrocious if I tried something like that. I'm probably just going to mess around with cuffs for awhile and hope it turns out okay, since thats a huge concern for me (i hate hate hate it when i see people BS the cuffs on the cosplay).

Axelai: Regarding the infamous Kwik Sew pattern, couldn't you borrow a cuff pattern from somewhere else? Like, another jacket or shirt? And you can reverse the front of the jacket to change the buttons to the correct side. And insert shoulder pads if you want more structure.
I found this pattern (http://butterick.mccall.com/b5616---pattern-of-the-week----products-13757.php?page_id=369), you can make the cuffs without the buttons.

The problem with those is that these are military cuffs. Not like, normal shirt cuffs. If anything, I'd have to borrow the cuff pattern off of our Germany's pattern @ n @ Since like, all these cuffs rather.... suck.
