This is my favourite forum.

I have been on many others and the people here by far tend to be the most reasonable, least-judgmental, wonderful, helpful people. No, not every single person, I'm sure, but close enough.

Cosplayers are the best.

Yes, I know that was so warm and fuzzy it's probably known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Sorry.

:D

I made this thread because on another forum, some people who should have been old enough to know better decided to indirectly deride cosplay and "furries"* without even trying to understand what either actually is.

*long story of innertubes dramaz

This place isn't perfect, and we've had our "call out other freaks" threads, but at least here I'm never the ONLY person standing up for the derided. Ack.

I appreciate that people here know how to be snarky or put down stupidity in a gentle and humorous way that forces people to confront their silliness without destroying them systematically from the inside out :)

Coscom isn't exactly a lovefest... but common sense is delivered in amusing, easily-digestable packages.

I read too many immoral things and listen to too much loud music to hobnob with saints, anyway.

This place has a soul, at least. And people are interested in helping, instead of just making fun of people. I'm not crying about how mean the innerwebs are, but I'm a bit sick of certain other places.

I agree, those forums are great.

I've been hanging here a lot more since I registered than when I was lurking around too.

Can I just say how awesomely quotable your posts are? They're always fun to read ^-^ Especially the one awhile back about pie.

I also love these forums. Not only because they're useful for learning new techniques (and oh my, have I ever learned a lot of new stuff in the years I've been on here), but also because the community is awesome. It's just as much fun to help someone out as it is to be helped yourself ^-^

... Aye. I like this place.
The most drama I've seen here is with Proud Asian. And if anything, it's quite funny.

... Every person I've seen post on here just seems... Decent.
... At least with this place, I don't feel so lonely anymore ^_^

It's not even really drama... it's just all of us knowing he is a moron and egging him on because it's hilarious XD

Have to agree, I myself was never into forums. Seeing as how easily drama can get started, or people can get just plain rude for no reason.

Here everyone is so nice and inviting, if not they add some humor to their less than nice responses.

Nearly every forum I've ever been a regular at has had ridiculous amounts of drama, angst and generally just way too much whining over nothing.

This is one of the nicest, most varied forums I have ever visited and it really is lovely. I think that having such a wide, strong hobby at it's basis is the biggest reason, because there are lots of little nooks and crannies in the many sub-forums that cater to people's specific interests.

That, and people here tend to be quite well-behaved, and I have yet to see a mod or admin be a power-hungry maniac - which honestly, is a rarity. People seem to get a good amount of chances here, and are banned when appropriate. (Of course I've not been a member long, but in my limited time that is what I have witnessed.)

When members do lash out at other members, it seems to only cause a momentary burst of frustration, as opposed to weird, niche gang wars and personal harrassment.

Only to the State of California? I guess I should be fine here in Michigan then. XDDD Joking aside, I must agree. Yes, some people can get overly defensive and closed-minded, but you'll find a few of those no matter where you go. The vast majority of people here seem to know how to respectfully get their point across without flat-out insulting anybody. It's surprising how many teenagers and even adults suddenly start acting like toddlers the moment they get online. Thanks, everyone, for renewing my faith in the internet and my generation! <3

Something tells me that a lot of the "moodmakers" here at coscom are a generation or two before yours. But hey, there are some cuties fresh out of the womb, too.

In my day we didn't have the internet, and we were damn fine with it!

...and when we did get it, it was a black screen with green font... and you only have 5 options... and we were fine with that too!

That might be. I may have generalized that a bit. I tend to associate people on the internet with my generation, even though that's not necessarily true. Sorry about that. ^^;

Back then, if we wanted to complain about our life, we wrote diaries. Those new-fangled forums thingies weren't there.

lol... back in my day, our only option was dial up! And we called people on the telephone when we wanted to talk to them. None of this confounded "messenger" stuff!

Back in my day, we typed with a pencil by hand on notebook paper, and transfered data between lockers.

Do kids even still pass handwritten notes in school these days? I don't even know. Oh man... if they do, is that... retro? :lost:

They text each other in class, trying to do so without being noticed.

Japanese kids do. There's hope.

Then again, their cellphones aren't allowed in school. I'm sure the second they get home they turn into text-monsters.

My friends and I might be the exception to that... we all pass notes. You can't doodle in a text message, and the drawings are the best part of note-passing. Why text when you can pass your friend a hand-written note accompanied by a drawing of them on a dragon fighting a giant squid?

That's so cool.

The only thing the douches around me in high school felt like passing around were opened condom wrappers (Sans contents).

I am not even kidding.
