Hey everyone. I'm currently making my little sister a costume of Young Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Here's a couple of pictures of the outfit:

Everything is finished except her headdress. The pink/purple-ish band that goes around the head and the veil that drapes over I have a good idea on how to do, but the main white part eludes me. I am at a LOSS as to how to do it! Is there a certain way that I can sew it to keep it flared out at the sides, or should I use something like a stiff wire to keep it out? I would also love any help on sewing head-gear in general. Thanks!

You could try horsehair braid along the bottom edge or even continue it onto the sides!

Do you have a reference picture showing the back or even just the side ?

I don't think you need wire or any stiffener.

I'd guess you could be looking at something as simple as a rectangle of fabric sewn to the head-band-like base ( you would have to make it too long, put it on and then cut the ends so they fell straight and even). It looks like it could be a little fancier, and that's why I'd try to see it from other angles before making it.

Here's some pictures of the back and side: http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/091/3/b/zelda_headdress_reference_by_horsefantasy-d3czyn4.jpg

I've tried many MANY times to find concept art of Zelda's outfit from the side, but to no avail. I'm afraid what you see in that picture is the best I've found. :/

I think you'd be fine if you basically made something like a muffin cap (http://www.mistythicket.com/ebay/mffngreen1.jpg). It looks like the white part in the back is coming from the pink part in the front with a gradient dye and the trim on the bottom edge.

Hm, okay. I'll try something like that. Yeah, I'm not sure how I'm going to to the gradient dye, but I may have to wait with that until later when I have a bit more time. Thanks for your help!

Maybe this will help with the gradient dye issue?
