View Full Version : Question Regarding Image Hits...

I hope this is the right place to ask this question....

Is there a way to figure-out where the hits on an image originate?

I'm curious because a pic (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2861321/) of my Professor Juniper cosplay that had a few hundred hits a couple of days ago has suddenly shot-up to well over 5000 hits @_@. I also noticed that the hits on some of my other pics (especially those in my Voltorb gallery (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/359052/)) have increased dramatically in a short amount of time.

It's really cool, but I can't help but wonder where all the hits are coming from???? Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Were the pics linked on a popular blog or something? ....or is it a wacky C.com bug that's causing the sudden increase in numbers?

I'd love to know what's going on. The curiosity is killing me >_<.

I'm just going to guess it's a glitch, (no offense!) But cosplay.com seems to have a lot of photo glitches, it's labeled my photos being uploaded in 1969, and I've seen it show peoples gallery's as having "29,775" photos in them before.

But you never know!

You could try googling around a bit, if it's been on a site popular enough to grant you 5000+ views it shouldn't be that hard to find.

How do I put this in the least creepy way I can...

Your a cosplay hottie.

Mayhaps some website linked your pictures?

But like Doxie said, if its popular enough to get you 5,000 views suddenly you should find it on google fairly easily.

Guaranteed you got linked somewhere -- even the most appreciated posters on this site don't get that many views suddenly. Considering the galleries are public and even unregistered accounts can see the pictures, I'm guessing you got linked because of how hot you are.

Until Yui or Jia (Or any of the mods who lurk the off-topic forum) get around here, there's no definite answer if there's a way to know the origins.

My guess is no, normally views are counted from page requests taken from the server, some sites use a system to prevent refreshes from a single user upping the count, but I'm fairly sure here it's only the page requests that are accounted for.

The referral address is rarely taken in account --- and often it might not be available at all.

EDIT: A little google magic proves you were linked because you're a hot woman. That specific picture was directly linked, leading to such.

Not linking because of crass comments, if you want to find it --- just google search the link to the picture in your initial post.

That specific picture was directly linked, leading to such.

*GAH* Thank you for helping me solve the mystery. I was googling by the character name plus 'cosplay', and never thought to try the direct link @_@. *sheesh*

Thanks for the helpful hints everyone!

Well, now you know what kind of people generated all those views.

Kildred: I was probably better-off just being curious.

Direkitty: I guess they're just that bored @_@. No doubt they'll find something new to be excited about soon enough.
