View Full Version : What do you think: Does the Gun make Yoko?

I can't get a sniper for my Yoko. It's not because I'm lazy [even though I really am], but it's because I have a hard enough time walking without holding anything. I really want this cosplay to look good, but I'm not too sure if it would without the gun because I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

So unless I can make a gun that weighs less than a few ounces, I'm screwed. xD Any thoughts?

Maybe I'm picky, but I definitely think that the gun helps to create a good Yoko. Otherwise, I just feel like it's someone walking around in a swimsuit. Don't get me wrong - I've seen pleanty of Yokos without guns that looked absolutely amazing. I just think that it definitely adds a lot to the overall effect.

If it's attached to your back, it shouldn't really be a problem with carrying things. I barely even noticed mine when I was wearing it.

Did you make yours or get it commissioned? If you got it comm'd, do you mind telling me where :3

I don't think it makes her. Yoko is pretty distinguishable with or without the gun.

I made mine, actually. There's a really good tutorial that someone did, though, on how to make one that I discussed here: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=236761. Otherwise, you might be able to get someone on here to make one. If you check the Commissioner Review boards, you may be able to find someone like here: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=79110. If not, I might be able to whip up a quick tutorial on how I made mine, but it's really just like a cheaper version of the one in the tutorial.

Good luck!

I also think that the gun completes the Yoko. So far I don't have mine, and I just feel like the cosplay isn't done yet without it :T

Ditto ^^^

I was really intimidated by the rifle, but the more progress I made with her costume, the more I realized that I wanted to make it.

I don't necessarily think that the rifle makes Yoko. I think it's an extra above-and-beyond piece that earns more respect and is very impressive, but I don't think it's necessary at all.

The first (and only) time I cosplayed Yoko (so far), I didn't have her rifle, though it was 100% by choice (I was staffing the con and running around a lot), and I didn't feel incomplete in the least. The only reason I chose to make her gun is because, as I said, I feel that it's more impressive.

I made her gun out of cardboard and craft foam. It's not finished yet, but I have the bulk of it done and I love it. I can't wait until it's finished.

Yoko looks great either way, but the gun always adds to the fun of photos.. which made me sad that I didn't have my gun ready when I first cosplayed her
