View Full Version : Isn't it amazing how barely anyone steals?

Yeah, like in the dealer's room, there's no detector that goes off and while the person at the counter isn't looking, it's so easy to just run off with items, but no one ever really does that. Just pointing out how good of a thing it is. Go go true anime fans! ^_^

No, I do not think it's amazing. And I'm appalled that you do, actually.
I look highly upon the entire anime community, we seem to be one of the nicest, well-mannered, and fun-loving communities out there, and no place for anyone who would be likely to steal things.

Yeah, um, not that amazing, but a good thing, sure..

...Why is this in Anime USA, anyway? o_o

Sure.. most of us are a bunch of nerds, but there's always a Ninja Bitch in a dealer's room. I and my friends had stuff stolen from Otakon and Katsu.... a chocobo plushie, t-shirts, a camera and even a KATANA! Always keep an eye on your stuff or it WILL be snatched.

The anime community has extremely nice people, but there are those out of the ordinary. For example, my friend Louise went to Otakon and got $144 stolen from her. So she took home nothing except the free stuff they gave you at registration. Poor, poor Louise >_<

*Most* fans are lawabiding citizens. Just because there aren't detectors, other dealers are always watching out for each other.

How did your friend have $144 stolen from her?

I have no clue. I didn't go with her to the con, since she lived in Maryland and I lived in Virginia and we obviously couldn't carpool. Didn't meet up with her either, but I did talk with her on AIM on Sunday. She says that she's never going back to Otakon again.

I suppose that she left her bag somewhere, and when she got back, the money was gone. I doubt that she was mugged. She was in a group with a lot of people.

Yes having $144 taken is bad and I don't condone stealing if you find something laying around (always turn into con staff), but again people must also take common sense to things and don't leave bags/wallets laying around in public. Same for convention badges, I can not stress enough to people don't take off your con badge, I found 2 this year at Otakon laying around again, turned it into staff.

But back on topic....

People steal stuff. It's just not rampant.

We had some thefts last year. They all came from the same person, and as far as I know everything was returned, and none of the thefts involved any of the dealers, but still, they did occur. It was pretty funny how she stole badges from con-ops, though.

At least we arent the kind that uses drugs and whatnot.

The only people I know who do drugs are those who watch anime, roleplay, and read comic books. :::shrugs::: and the only girl that's ever admitted to me that she shoplifts loves anime. I don't think one hobby like watching cartoons can really define what a person's capable of.

Give me a break.

I'm actually suprised people don't steal too much considering you get ripped off in the dealer rooms so badly.

At least we arent the kind that uses drugs and whatnot.

That's extremely assumptive Like someone else said, I have a friend who likes anime and does drugs, and I don't think he's a bad person at all.

I think the anime community may be meeker than a lot others, but I wouldn't put anything past anyone.

Agreed, just because you and your friends aren't "bad people", that has nothing to do with the fact that you like anime. Unfortunately, there are bad people everywhere. -.-
