Short hair or long hair is better for girls?

I think it should be completely personal preference.

^This.

There is no better. I've seen girls rock short cuts, long cuts, in-between cuts, and even bald heads.

I think it all depends on the person and their face shape. I know I personally look better with short hair (and it's so much easier to take care of) :D

I've also never understood why some guys have an aversion to girls with short hair...

I've always been partial to long (just upper back, shoulder-blade-length or so) darker hair.

As many other people say, though, it's completely dependant on the person, and personal tastes. I've seen some short haircuts on girls that make them look absolutely stunning, and I've seen some long hair cuts on girls that simply make me go "meh".

Worth noting, though, is that I've let my hair grow down to my butt, and got mistaken for a girl pretty often. I had my hair cut and styled a few months back, but haven't had the chance to go back to the hair dresser's so it's about shoulder-length now. I get mistaken for a girl sometimes when it's like this, and if I put it in a pony tail I know it looks girly (long bangs that curve inwards just under my chin). When my hair was just cut, and still quite short, I was never mistaken for a girl.

Um I just like girls... some people make short hair look awesome others make long hair waaay luxurious... and others pull off both. You should just find what you like on yourself =) After all as much as you think other people may be looking at you in the end you are the one donning the due =P

Woot! Natalie Portman from V for Vendetta pulled this off flawlessly!

Anyways, back on topic.

I prefer long Rapunzel hair, but short/medium length t hair is alright too. To be even more specific, brunettes with blonde highlights...yeah, I'm a sucker for that.

Personally I think I look better with medium length hair more around my collar bone, I am pretty short and when I have long hair I can look incredibly stubby quite easily xD even the length it's at now feels too long and it's really not long by most standards.

Its like someone asking you which of your three favorite meals is the best.

Each one is cool, since you can do different styles with each.
I (a simple boy) have had long hair which I could turn into some cool do's, but also think I look better in shorter hair not to mention easier to take care of.

i keep mine buzzed down between 1 and 4 inches, depending on weather. any longer than that and it gets tangled and is a pain to take care of, and i hate when it tickles the back of my neck. when i do let it grow a bit, i still clip the back and end up with a modified bowl cut

i really don't care what other people do with their hair, and keep mine short because i hate messing with it

My hair is to around the middle center of my back when i straighten it, when i don't it curls up around the upper portion the back, so i guess it works both ways right?

But as for what looks better, it really depends on the person's physical looks and body type. Some people just have to have hair and some people don't.

My boyfriend prefers that I have long hair, but it just doesn't suit me.
It rarely falls the exact way I want it to in order to look good, and often just makes
me look thicker/tired. Short hair is more fun and easier to take care of, plus it's easier to
get volume with it. I love it

One hairstyle that looks good on someone doesn't look good on someone else. A bunch of my friends in middle school had long hair and then chopped it off in high school and now it's even shorter. One rocks a pixie cut and she's super pretty with it. One of my exes said that he thought girls with short hair were too butch, but then again, he's an ex for a reason. ;D

I had short hair until the end of middle school when I was sick of being mistaken for a boy. I kept it long until last week when I got it cut and now it's to my chin and I like it better this way!

My hair is pretty thin and doesn't naturally have volume. When I have long hair I very easily look like a shaggy collie ~.~ I've been wearing it up for almost a month now because I just don't know what the dang hell to do with it anymore.

Too short and I look like Macaulay Culkin's twin sister though ~.~

How about medium hair. lol I have long black hair to my back. And it is definitely useful in the summer in Florida. ^.^b I'd love a trim but I'm not letting my mom near my hair after what she did with my sister's hair. Which is short like head hugging hair I guess you'd call it. And she loves her short hair and I like my long. So yeah totally depends on the girl.

Personal preference :)

I liked having a bob cut (my 2nd shortest haircut in my life cut 8 whole inches of my hair at that time) and the longest I like having it is mid my back... I have my hair partly touching my shoulders and back,my hubby's preference is for me to have my hair long and brunette :P ...and I like dying it crazy colors... <3

I've had short hair ever since 6th grade when I burnt my hair on my birthday cake candles. I took a hint and figured that it was time for that mess to go. I have triangle hair when it's long. It get's frizzy at the ends when it's long, so I like my short hair-do's and medium length hair-do's.

And other's can rock long hair, while other's can't, be honest with yourself and you'll find what looks good on you :).

I always personally prefered to have my hair longer.

For one thing, I find that it just looks nicer on me physically. For another, the last time my hair was short (Back in my preteen days) it was all over the place because I have very fine, wavy/curly hair.

It would just frizz/poof up constantly. I always had to use mousse, creams or hairsprays just to tame it. And if I used too much of the stuff, my hair would go flat and my head/face would look like a cone. It was tricky to find a middle ground.

So in my case, short hair for me was way harder to take care of than long hair. Regardless of whatever effort I put in - tried quality products, went to the hairdressers, got professional advice - It was still a bloody darn pain in the arse.

But all that aside, like everyone else mentioned, it's all about personal choice and what suits people best, male or female.

I personally put in extra vote for clean hair on a guy. Greasy/unwashed can ruin any flattering hairstyle.

i honestly like long hair better, you can do so much more with it.

straighten. curl. wave. layer. poof. tease. razor. flip. etc. Thats hard to do with short hair, plus, I look RIDIIIIICULOUS with short. BUT, some people look adorable with it, I think it matters with your chin. I have a butt chin = ugly short hair, pretteh long hurr!

Back to the real topic of the thread. A person should make their decision about their hair based on what they want/like. Might have to fight with it a little bit and do some experiments, but that's all part of the fun.

You lost me after curl. What? are you just naming random words?
:D

lmao, ok here:
wave: like a mixture of curly and straight. Most people have this as a natural texture.
layer: instead of having all your hair the same length, you layer it, making top layers shorter so they create a sort of "sharp" effect. I have legit mullet layers, but with swooshy bangs. My shortest peice of hair is 2 inches. The longest is about... err... a foot? thanks to layering!
poof: push hair back against the roots to make it poof.
tease: back-combing so that hair sticks up. Scene Girls/Fran Fine-type girls tease their hair.
razor: taking a razor comb and basically ripping half your hair out so it's thinner/sharper. I do this. It helps in the summer/athletics if you don't like pulling up your hair.
flip: taking the hair and straightening it, but curving the iron on the end so your hair flips out. Or, just curving the iron the whole way. I personally don't do this, I straighten the doodle out of my hair.

You know what I do?
shampoo
shampoo AGAIN
shampoo bangs
condition
condition AGAIN
condition bangs
pin back bangs
dry
straighten
hairspray
sleep
straighten AGAIN
spray AGAIN

BAYUM. needless to say, my hair is pretty freaking damaged... but i LOVVVVE ITTTT.

Short hair or long hair is better for girls?

It's a matter of perspective in my personal opinion.

The perspectives;

The indivdual who has to deal with the hair, what does SHE like on herself.

From the observer's ( ME ) point of view. I PERSONALLY take the hair as part of the overall frame of the female's face in question. Does it compliment her features OR does it detract/distract from her features? As a GENERAL answer, most females look better from my point of view with longer or medium length hair. On occasion though, I see some who have that perfect hair and facial combonation that work perfectly with short hair.

It all goes back to perspective though and what a person likes ( whether the one who is wearing the hair or the one who is noticing the hair ).

It was only after I had my hair transformed from long layers to an angled bob cut that I realized nearly EVERY girl at my university has long hair. Nearly all of them look the same.

I think shorter hair on young women stands out more. Long hair is often a vanity thing; I frequently see other young women discouraged from having their hair cut short because "BAWW YOU'LL LOOK LIKE A BOY" and other stupid crap.

I prefer short hair for ease of care and styling. It's easier to just fix random curls with an iron than trying to style over a foot of hair.

I really like the look of long hair, but I can never get mine to look the way I want when it's long. Since I have fine hair, I don't get to keep my curls once my hair grows out. It just becomes a barely-wavy mess with lots of frizz. ;____;

Are you saying I'm not that pretty or cute because my hair isn't long? Because I happen to think my hair looks better short. It frames my face better and because my hair get's so out of control, it's easier to style and keep it looking nice. When I had long hair it was a nightmare and I looked very frumpy.

Define "better". Because "better" for me means no hair in my face, and hair takes 1 minute to style. Short (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1840605/) hair is more manageable, less time primping and more time being productive, and therefore better (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2672685/). There. But I do appreciate gals with the long hair - I just don't have the patience. I think it looks lovely.

There was one group of days I left my makeup bag at home, and for two or three days I had no makeup on what so ever. :K for one my skin felt pretty great /snort/ and I was going out and about with friends without make up on. A friend of ours took a snapshot of Brandon and I (http://flufftastic.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d3dthlc), it's one of the favorite pictures of mine now. She apparently didn't even realize I had no makeup on xD

I recall my mother telling me once that in her first marriage she would go to sleep with makeup on, wake up earlier then her husband to shower and put fresh makeup on so he never saw her without makeup on.

Srs face what is that nonsense.

If it's anywhere near my shoulders, there is far too much of it. I do think that long hair is beautiful and pretty impressive... it just super sucks to have.

I am torn between enjoying super long hair OF AN UNMENTIONABLE LENGTH but it making me look like a shaggy dog.

When my hair was super long, it used to get tangled and caught in EVERYTHING. It may look pretty I guess, but it's a huge pain.

Seriously, it would be like, "Hello passing stranger. I'm going to get myself caught in the zipper of your jacket now. KTHX."

I think the real question is, "Short hair or long hair is better for guys?"

Personally, for girls, if I find them attractive, I don't really care whether their hair is long or short. Actually, even if I don't find them attractive, I don't care. The neat thing about hair is that, in comparison to other parts of your body, it's easily customizable. I think it's cool when people change their style every once in a while (if not more). :D

I do love my long hair, but I am worried when it gets longer it'll be noticeable under my wigs! :O Sometimes I think of having it short for that reason, I already get the lil bump and have to squish it around and my hair is only bra length!
Anyone else have this problem? Especially those with super duper long hair!?!

The "bump" is half the reason I cut my hair so short in the first place (mid-neck). My hair is really thick, and I had trouble fitting it under wigs when it was mid-back length. Cutting my hair short has really benefited my cosplay hobby.

Have you tried french braiding your hair before putting your wig cap and wig? It'll keep your hair close toy our head and give your hair pins (if you use them to hold the wig in place) something to grip.

No I haven't, probably cause I can't french braid and bringing my mother with me is not something I really do at 23 years old XD And she most likely wouldn't like the idea~

For the wig thing, I've never tried. I'm getting my first wig for my next Otakon cosplay, and my hair will be short by then. I have a feeling, though, that it won't work if my hair is much past my shoulders, due to it being rather ridiculously thick. I got it cut at a Relay for Life in high school, and in addition to being the longest tail on the table by about six inches (and more than double most of them), it was also about three times thicker than anyone elses... So yeah, I think I'll have to work harder at keeping it short as long as I want it to work with a wig.

I am torn between enjoying super long hair OF AN UNMENTIONABLE LENGTH but it making me look like a shaggy dog.

I let my hair grow very long in between cutting it as short as my stupidly round face will let it go. I don't do it on purpose, but my hair grows scary fast and I'm too lazy to go and get it cut on a regular basis, so this happens every few years. It lets me enjoy the long hair without going insane due to the hassle of styling/caring for it. ^_^

@Shirotakamegami: you could try doing pincurls to avoid the bumps under wigs from a ponytail.

Don't let people bully you out of it. If you don't really want it shortened, then don't do it. If you do, don't let anyone else change your mind. I'm beating away "Don't do it!" from a million sides, but I really want it short, so I'm going for it (though with two days of long hair left, I'm beginning to get nervous). Also, I've never had a wig before and I don't want to deal with butt-length, thick hair for my first wig. ^_^;;

Worst case, you do it and you regret it. Great thing is, hair grows back. ^_^ Treat it well, eat a good diet, and you'll have it back in no time.

hm I like super SUPER layered shortish (anywhere between my shoulders and chin) hair on me personally.. if i don't get it extremely layered, it usually ends up looking like a big ol frizzy fro.. -.- a big huge poof mess lol
I think i look craptastic with long hair but that could be because i know next to nothing about styling hair.. all i ever do is: shampoo, condition, take forever washing it all out -.-, air dry, and brush if i remember >.>" i dont know how to curl, straighten, and all those other random words that were mentioned before lol.

also what about bangs or no bangs? o.O that could also determine how long/short hairstyles look on someone.

just not on me *sobs*
my hair is extremely thick...hairdressers and family alike compare it to fur...like a wolf... lol
so i tend to stick to short boyish cuts that i style. If i had long hair like i love(like mid back and longer) i would dye of heat stroke and it would be about 50 lbs XD...plus i am always told i suit short styles better. which makes me a bit sad...

so...yea....going to get my hair cut later this week into a semi Mohawk kind of style.

Long hair is great and all (mine is almost to my bum), but its alot of work~! My hair is thick and wavy. so it takes forever to straiten and its veeery heavy and hot. Most times i dont bother doing anything with it because its so much work, which makes me wonder why even bother with keeping it long. I want to chop it all off, but noone wants me to get rid of my "beautiful long hair". I wish short hair was more appreciated, i feel like you can do so much more with it :D

I've had long hair, except for one year when a hairdresser butchered my hair to pieces, all my life. Same style, too, of one-length with short bangs (here's a cosplay photo of me using my hair, dyed but largely the same style I always have- http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2756154/ ), and I'm 21.
I'm damn sick of dealing with the 24 inches or so of it now (not to mention drying it takes FOREVER), and nowadays I rarely actually wear it down, can't style any of it for shit and hate ponytails most of the time on me, so next spring, I'm getting it cut into an angled bob. Not to mention, I like the "attitude" that comes with short or bobbed hair a lot more. My only issue I'm thinking of is how to put it up for wigs if it's too short to braid, slick up or put in a ponytail, but too long to leave be.

I think you'll look absolutely awesome with a bob cut! As for hair that short under wigs, you can use bobby pins. I use bobby pins for the bits that like to stick out and put on a wig cap, then add the wig.

Ever since i was 7 i've had long hair. i get haircuts a lot but my hair likes to grow back super quickly... when i do get a lot of length off, it feels weird to me because im so used to long hair. i find it easy to deal with if it's layered, maybe because im so used to it. mine is all the way down to my bum :) i colour and change it every season I've decided on getting it cut short next year. omg its gonna feel sooo weird. people keep saying whaaat noooo. but like i care about what they want. ^^

I agree that it completely depends on a person's personality, shape of their face, preferences, etc....
That being said, I absolutely LOVE long hair!!! I always have since I was a kid (I call it a Sailor Moon complex). I'm always jealous when my friends have gorgeous long hair, and then I practically cry when they chop it off. I would love for my hair to be much longer, but I do a lot of damage to it, like coloring it, blow-drying it, flat-ironing it.
I also know that for myself I would look HORRIBLE with short hair. My hair is naturally curly, and if I chopped it off, it would curl so very tightly, and that just isn't a good look on me personally.
That is why I love my long wigs!!!! My friend hates the hassle of them, but I think they are totally worth the work!

There are a lot of factors that determie what makes a style work, so as long as a style is flattering length is less important. Though, for those who can pull it off, I find super short styles super cute. Natalie Portman's shaved head in V for Vendetta? Meow!

Yii, this caught my attention 'coz I just had a haircut. I've never ever had my hair long since I was born. I always keep it short. That's my trademark.
Almost every month I always have my hair cut. Today I just had a trim, but it went wrong. My hair was already bob short but it really annoys me to see my hair with uneven shape on the opposite sides (curved on the left side while fly-away on the right) so I had it trimmed for a little. But it ended up getting too short. Now my younger brother is teasing me saying that I look like either a mushroom or a jellyfish. Now, he calls me Kabufish (Kabute [Filipino, lit. mushroom] + jellyfish). Now it's more annoying than my naturally asymmetrical hair. If any Korean or Japanese girl is wearing my mushroom hairstyle it would look good, but on me it doesn't fit because my facial outline is roundish oval. It would have been better if I had my brother's sharp oval face. Bob hairstyle like that on my avatar (Satsuki Hyoudo) is the one that looks nice on me, it just suits me since I look like a kid. But if it gets shorter I'll look like an egg topped with nori. While if it gets longer I'll look like a horror movie character; long hair won't look good on me because of my wide but drowsy/sickly-looking eyes like a little similar to that of either L Lawliet or Near River.

The bottom line is, it really depends upon some factors. Although I very much favor short hair also because I hate being like the majority (long-haired girls).

I prefer long Rapunzel hair, but short/medium length t hair is alright too. To be even more specific, brunettes with blonde highlights...yeah, I'm a sucker for that.

Same. Any ultra-long, flowing down-to-the-waist or lower Shrine Maiden-style hair (especially black), although hard to find, is my personal preference... but it has to be jet-black and very shiny...

But that's just my ideal dream girl's hair. I'm fine with any ends of the spectrum, really (I'm a dude with somewhat longer hair, so I'm not that picky of a Sword Dude).

I have long hair because I feel like I look too much like a boy with shorter hair (especially since my face isn't very pointy - those are the girls I feel like look really good with short hair). I'm bad at describing face shapes, sorry xD. I used to be upset by this but now that I do cosplay it makes me really happy because everyone tells me I can pull off a guy for crossplay. :D My hair color is just my natural color (strawberry blonde) and I get a lot of compliments on it so I just leave it that way.

Personal Taste if different, tbh.
It's completely up to your facial structure if you can work long hair or short hair better as well.
Mine is a round-face, so I typically go for the messy medium-length/short-length hairstyle.
Easy to handle and suits our faces quite well.
Plus, my boyfriend likes my hair shorter rather than long, however... he could give two shits either way. He thinks women look beautiful the way they are, regardless of hairlength.
So, there you go. A guy's perspective ^ XD.
But yes, facial structure is the key to what can work for you.

I used to have long hair, down to my waist. There wasn't much I could do: Part it one one side or the other, braid it, put it up. Now that I have short hair, I can leave it flat, comb it over, spike it up, fauxhawk, curl, sweep to the side, even gel it back if I felt so inclined. Some people think it's the opposite, that short hair is limited in options.

I prefer short hair, but people can do whatever they want.

I love having short hair. I used to have long hair, and it was such a hassle for me (I have really thick hair, and even though it's straight it was still a pain)...the split ends, the long drying time, the tangles...I literally put it into a ponytail and told the stylist to cut it off and make it into a choppy bob. That was 4 years ago and I haven't ever grown my hair back.

In terms of style, you can click on my name and it SHOULD bring up my profile picture of just my face and hair. It's asymmetrical and super short in the back, tapering to the front. I don't think I'll really change my hair style, tbh.

But, it's a personal preference, as many people have already said. My boyfriend really likes it this short. For practical purposes, I feel like short is the best bet (wearing any helmets, whether it's for cosplay or for safety; for cooking, for painting, etc). Obviously long hair has its perks, too.

I have to say, after 2.5 years of hair to my waist, I cut it this spring to donate to children with cancer and got a pixie cut and I am LOVING IT. I haven't had short hair in about 13 years, and it's so nice. I can shower in 5 minutes. I can drive with the windows down. I don't have to vacuum every hour. I don't have to brush my hair obsessively. I don't have to buy conditioner. I don't get strangled in my sleep. I don't get ponytail headaches. Or sweaty neck. And I can easily wear wigs again! It was way too much effort before.
