Hi I hope I am in the right place. I am working on my cosplay costumes. I would like to make Edward Elric's red jacket but couldn't find a good pattern. A few weeks ago I found a long rain jacket and was thinking of useing it as a pattern. Do you think that would work or should I try another pattern? Thanks :)

Either of these works :McCall's 4029 or See & Sew 4331 . They're essentially the same pattern.

I actually made a mistake. It's Butterick 4029, not McCall's 4029. A raincoat pattern sounds like it might work. Do you remember the pattern number and what brand it was?

Thanks I will see if I can find the patterns at Jo-Ann fabrics.
I found the rain jacket at the goodwill its long I thought I could use it as a pattern for his jacket do you think that would work?

I found another pattern that might work its Simplicity 2208 Misses Fleece Jacket and it blue I would just have to make it longer. Do think that would work or should I just cut up the rain jacket and use it as a pattern?
Still thinking about what fabric to get any ideas? Still thinking about cotton or fleece. :-)

Fleece won't look right. I think wool looks best, I'm actually using (and loving) the red suiting that jo-ann's sells. It's expensive, so not an option for everyone. In lieu of wool, I'd use a thick, nice cotton with a good drape.

Going to the fabric store this week I kind of like the red suiting and the cotton. Maybe I will get both and do two jackets :-)

if you already found a pattern( which you probaly already did) i'm sorry to be a bother. A bathrobe pattern might work with out the loops. Good Luck!
