View Full Version : Misaki - Angelic Layer

Hi, this costume is actually a few years old (as well as the photos). Just wondering what people think of it. Unfortunately, in the photos I am not wearing thigh-high nylons, I am wearing tights. Recently I made a pair of thigh-highs for the costume. I'll try and post photos of that if I can. I also want to make my own Hikaru out of a Barbie doll (or something), because the licensed toy that I bought is sized more for a child than for an adult...

Heh - and when my hair was still blonde, I could take off the wig and cosplay as Tamoyo!!

Here's a reference picture and costume description:

Oh, and some things on my webpage on how I made the costume are completely inaccurate, as I made the site at like 3am and couldn't remember many of the details. I bet there are a zillion typos as well...

I like it, very accurate. In the Misaki photo, it doesn't look like the wig is sitting on your head right, have you tried wig caps? I used to have that problem a lot. Also, Misaki's hair is a little floofier, with some long pieces. (I hate AL hair- styling a Wizard wig was a huge pain because of that). I agree about the toy Hikaru being too small, a Barbie (or a Hikaru cosplayer) would be perfect.

I love them!! They're nice costume ^__^. I hope to cosplay Hikaru sometime lol XD. Keep up the great work ^____^.

That is a pretty good costume. it could use a few tweaks here or there but they are so minor I am not sure even I would bother with them. I do agree on the hair and the Hikaru comment. The only other big thing I see that could use some fixing is the hose should only come to mid thigh instad of all the way up, but I realise how difficult that is to achieve so it is something that can be over looked. Other wise grerat job.

I think you make a great Tamayo! *so cute*

I see nothing wrong with the costume itself, other than what you already mentioned about the tights. However, the wig looks a bit funny. I think the color isn't brown enough - it looks like a really dirty blonde. It could be the ligting, too. And the bangs need to be more... messy? Instead of straight across. Other than that, looks great!

I love AL!

the costume looks VERY well constucted, almost professional :) however, it seemed to me that the collar was a little off...in the reference pics it seemed a little wider, and layed flat on her shoulders...but it's minor, and definitely didn't take away from the costume. great job!

Trance: yes, the collar is not the correct shape. I shall try and fix that later. This is only the second costume I have made, so I am not yet comfortable making them without a pattern. The closest I could find for the jacket was a Vogue pattern, and I still had to make adjustments to the front and back. I shall work on it!

Oh, and about the wig in general. It is a dark chocolate brown wig, and the reason that it doesn't look quite right is because my mother purchased it for me (it was expensive) and she told me that I could only cut it to a certain length - that way she could have it re-cut by a hairstylist and then would be able to sell it as a useable wig at a later date. I might purchase it from her and then take it to my hairdresser and have her correctly style it, if I get the time and money...

I got to see the costume in person today and I love it!! I know I already said that but it looks even better in person lol XD. You are very good =D.

This is a rather small difference, but isn't her undershirt a bit more reminiscent of a white blouse? After looking at the reference picture, it looks sort of like a white collared button-up shirt... also, it has a bit of a dip in the middle, doesn't it? If you feel like changing it, you could do it rather easily (I think) by making the visible part of the shirt and fastening it to the jacket, with two hook-eye openings at the base and top of the neck.. I'm just a beginning seamstress, though, so I don't know if it'd work.

The rest of your costume really looks awesome, though! I love Angelic Layer, and I was considering cosplaying Misaki until I realized that I don't yet have the patience to sew pleats. ;) Great job! :D

I always thought it was a very pale green shirt with a mandarin collar. Yours is the right color, but not 100% accurate. I don't think it detracts from the costume at all though, overall it's very nice.

KuroBara - yes, the shirt is really a pale teal color with a mandarin collar. When I made this costume, I did not have time to make a mandarin shirt, so I simply dyed a turtleneck teal. I hope to remedy that detail in the future.

Oh, and does anyone know of a good pattern (preferably the number and designer) that would work for the collar of the jacket? I'm trying to give the sailor collar a more pointed look without ruining the off-set cut of the jacket...

I really wish I had a decent picture to show you... but I made this costume as well. The only thing I think you should change is the arm thing to make it stick out a little more. If you sew it around that plastic embroidery square stuff, then stitch it to the underside of the sleeve, it sticks out nicely.

hmmm...the arm band is a little small, but it is actually sewed onto the sleeve, which I think is part of its problem! :) I was trying to avoid remaking any portion of the costume which had the crown emblem on it, as those were a pain in the rear to make. I took screencaps from my dvds, enlarged them in photoshop, then printed them out on the computer and traced the design onto yellow-gold felt. It took forever, but at least they're EXACTLY like Misaki's! *hehehe*
I glad people like this costume. My next steps in fixing it are gonna be to get a pale teal mandarin collared undershit and to make myself a new Hikaru.

^__^ it's really great looking! I wanted to cosplay as Tamayo and I still do, if I ever find the time. The only mistakes I see are what's already been mentioned, the arm band being too tight and the undershirt. But I love it! I can only hope mine will come out as well when I make it. ^.~
